    Greetings from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), Kuga-san! Thank you for showing your "plan-B" with us. I've taken the Corridor service between Toronto and Montreal several times on Business Class. The usual complaints from many pax have been delays due to whatever reasons (but mainly due to the VIA Rail routes are shared with the prioritized freighter traffic) and expensive fare (compares with the airlines). Regarding the new Siemens Charger locomotive - Venture coach trainsets, I'm also looking forward to ride on it. Others have already mentioned that your "reality has been shattered" when the new trainsets are only deployed gradually for the Toronto-Montreal routes. Anyway, love your channel over the years as always. THANK YOU.

    I’m with you all the way about the awkwardness of sharing when you’ve paid for business/first class. UK first class trains have single ‘airline’ seats with, adjacent, a block of four seats. You can book accordingly and, certainly, if you are having a meal you want one of the single seats. Anyway, another great video - thanks.

    • @davidthomas2761
      @davidthomas2761 10 месяцев назад +4

      I get the impression this was close to a last-minute booking. Normally a solo passenger is not seated at a four-seater. VIA keeps them for groups of three or four. If the quads are all that is left then that is what is assigned. Single seats are popular and are booked long in advance. From my experience, this happens in the UK and Europe as well.

      We're in a difficult spot in Canada, with the freight railways owning the tracks, and the huge distances between smallish population centres. Along with all the spectacular nature we have, comes the difficulty of transportation.

    For the Amtrak Adirondack, the service was playing back and forth between cancelation and normal service. Poor track condition was and is still an issue for Via Rail. A lot of service is cancel due to this single reason.
    "Service was suspended in March 2020 due to the closure of the Canada-United States border in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, resumed in spring 2023, and suspended again at the end of June 2023 because of track conditions in Canada. Service again resumed in September." From Wikipedia.

      I was in a taxi taking me to the VIA station for a trip to Windsor from London. The driver asked me how much the ticket was worth and I said, "I dunno, the return half is about $60 bucks, I guess" (It was a VIA 1 ticket, 1st. class)
      He says, "Well I'm at the end of my shift, I usually charge $100 an hour, but you seem cool so I'll flat rate you for the 100 and and extra $50 for the gas."
      Deal. He waited while I ran into the station and got the refund for the return portion of the ticket.
      Plus, I had a bag of weed and we had a real nice time on the way down there.

      The only negative sides similar to what is happening in Europe are privatisation and underinvestment in, and resulting closures of rural lines. They at least privatised with vertical integration (meaning the same company runs the trains & manages the tracks), but that also means that it is much easier to "excuse" the closures.

    2:27 At recording time, the new Siemens trainsets still needed to be staying at a "fair distance" from the Montreal Maintenance Centre overnight, which include Ottawa and Quebec City. Which meant that the handful ones doing either Montreal-Toronto or Ottawa-Toronto had to come back from Toronto before the end of the day. But now, as I write this, the Toronto Maintenance Centre is ready to get (and maintain) these sets, and has received their first one there, the other 12 went down to Montreal.

    Here's a crazy idea, how about more than 4 or 5 coaches on this trunk route? It's so embarrassing - the stock is 50 years old and the train looks like an Albanian branch line service (no offence to Albanian trains)

      The LRC trains are only 40 years old. More coaches are not available to lengthen the train as many in this class have already been scrapped due to corroded aluminum. The new Siemens trains being built in California are slowly entering service but it will take a couple of more years before all are in service.
