Every two years since 1895, Venice has hosted the most important contemporary art exhibition in the world. Over a period of six months, the Biennale welcomes over 375,000 visitors and raises millions of Euros in sponsorships. In 2013, 88 nations were represented.
But while everyone was talking about the art at the Biennale, we went to Venice few months before the official opening to meet artists, curators, and producers, and to understand how such a massive art event is made, as well as its impact on the city and its citizens.

Biennale in Italy is one of the most important art fairs in Europe. And if you dont understand it and dont like it, it doesnt mean it is not art it means you are not as well educated as you should be.
The people who are saying that this isn't art obviously don't understand the meaning of art. Certain art will appeal to certain people and not to others. There will always be great pieces of art that will be massively critiqued by some and looked at by astonishment by another. You can't judge what is and is not art. It's all in the eye of the beholder. Although I will agree that a majority of them look like hipsters lol
wtf are people complaining about? even if u r italian and feel proud of the biennale as a significant cultural event, don't u want it 2 be better and keep improving? if u wanted a full scale documentary, clearly a barely-60 min youtube video is not it. vice is a biased organization - their angle has always been sensationalist, exoticizing, and 'gritty' reporting. however, these angles work 4 such a series; it gives a sober look at the human cost and cultural expense at which this biennale operates - the critiques of which are applicable 2 the entire art market in general, and not just this one specific cultural event in italy.
Why do you dislike the documentary just because you don't like the people in it? It doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the doc.
no, but the documentary itself is of good quality. If you want to support vice, you can either like it or at the very least ignore it.
This is not a sandwich and the documentary is just straight up informative.
This is a different scene. Kudos to you Vice for showing the people a side of the world not often seen by mainstream. Even if it is a........bit...........strange. Keep up the good work!

The Venice Biennale is one of the worlds largest art festivals and has been going on since 1895. Art is subjective, it is literally impossible to say what is or isn't art.
What's the music at 00:14? Is it live from the fair or is it a track?
I think anybody and everybody is entitled to like or dislike this video for their own reason.
it has to do w/ everything.....the video, audio quality, the content EVERYTHING. dislikes represent all that, and as you can see the people have spoken

Bedwyr Williams needed another cappuccino the morning he spoke about his exhibition. Moral of the story: always be prepared to speak about your work before going on camera. Also, it has been my experience that talking about one's work is never a satisfactory experience, especially without any type of maquette or illustrative rendering.

At Chicago's Contemporary Art museum at some point was an exhibition of a bucket full of vomit in the middle of an empty room. Someone called it art.

Vice must be going through another one of those phases, it seems. People defend Vice and say "If you don't like, then don't watch!". NO! I will watch and will judge because Vice pumps out some good ass quality doc's, but then this shit. This is not documentary, it's artsy bullshit that's should be on some YT art channel.

At one point an artist said art doesn't pay. That says to me that the "art" your selling must be really bad and can only be appreciated by people with equally bad taste ( which are other Shitty "artists")

you saying "this is not art" holds absolutely no value. who are you to have the audacity to say it is not art? even if you were an artist. this is obviously art to thousands if not hundred's of thousands of people. why should i sympathize with you just because you fail to understand it? do ever tire of the lame dismissal "hipster"? at least try to be a little more creative than that.

What a great point that woman made about how pretentious artists (and most liberals may I add) can be. Same goes for the South American artist. He gets it. Words and actions have never been farther apart.
