    Great short and precise video. I love my GX8 but have not played enough with this lens. Now I feel like going for a walk tomorrow.

    Subscribed! I saw you at Matti Sulanto's video. I think you have great content plus I like what you have done to your GX8 with the body cap lens (BCL).
    It's time for me to get a BCL and enjoy the challenge! Cheers from New Zealand.

      New Zealand! Wow, great to have you here and thanks for your amazing comment! This set I use is quite old. Nowadays there are many more BCL options on the market. The 9mm has a distinct look and it’s sometimes too wide. I also have the 15mm BCL from Olympus and I think that’s a bit more versatile. See what works for you 😉👍

    I just came from a Lindsay Adler portrait video, and she also suggested switching to monochrome liveview despite having very different objectives.
    Similarly, I often shoot square, and it's surprising how often I'll find I've made a better composition without the square crop when I'm reviewing the raw files.
    Thanks :)

      Yeah everyone should try looking at the world in monochrome even though things aren't always black and white 😁

    I too am the owner of a GX8 and preferably coupled with a Leica 12-60 lens and a GF1 with 20 mm f / 1.7 fixed lens
    shooting both in color and black and white

      Nice! The 20mm f/1.7 is on my wishlist! It’s tiny but looks sharp 👍

    I like the square format setting. Something I would try myself. (gx 80 + laowa 10 mm)

    • @VISUALTHIRST
      @VISUALTHIRST  3 года назад

      It's okay to be square ☺️ Good for Instagram but also looks really nice printed and framed! GX80 is even smaller camera and I like the wide angle for street photography 👍

    Interesting and helpfull Tips. But I like to use for simple photo walks an street photography my old Lumix LS3. Make all pictures in color an turn it in post to black and white or not. It is also a little bit like in the older days. You can realy see what you captured at home, because the Display size is like a poststamp :-).
    Have a nice time.

      This is interesting! Amazing your camera still works! I remember the early digital compact cameras were not built to last. Most phones have way better cameras now and that's why you don't see so many compact cameras in stores these days.

    • @siofna9709
      @siofna9709 3 года назад +1

      @@VISUALTHIRST Yes it still works. Only 5MP and JPEG, but the JPEGs are not bad and not high compressed. So you can do a something in post. I also had a Samsung ES15, it is still working too. You are right. Most phone camera have better cameras now and the market of small compact cameras is going down. But a camera is a camera :-).

      True. And again it’s not about the technical perfection or pixels. What’s in the photo is what matters.

    Excellent tips! I have to say, that in my opinion the tilting viewfinder is the most useless feature😀

    • @fellowcitizen
      @fellowcitizen 3 года назад +2

      Hey Matti, I just got a GX9 and I'm experimenting with left-eye shooting with the tilt evf - it looks promising. Usually I shoot from my right eye despite being distinctly left-eye dominant.

    • @VISUALTHIRST
      @VISUALTHIRST  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Matti! I find the viewfinder extremely useful in bright daylight 😉

      @@fellowcitizenHey, good to see you here😀 I find it extremely annoying, because when I press the camera against my face the VF tends to tilt unintentionally. I'm also happy with screen for low angle shots.

      I agree with Jan in that I prefer waist level shooting, but I do it with the tilting LCD because I don't have a tilting viewfinder, so I can see the appeal in bright sun when it's hard to see the frame on the screen

    I have the gx9 and Olympus em5ii for street photography. Both are unobtrusive when you stick a small prime on it like the Lumix 20 mm 1.7 or the Oly 17 mm f 1.8 or 45 mm f 1.8.
    In Lumix I like the monochrome D filter, which I have assigned to a C button with A priority, ISO 200. When I want to shoot a colourful scene I just switch to another c button. Easy peasy.

      Sounds good! 👍 The 17mm lens for MFT is like the classic 35mm which I have for my old Canon AE-1 film camera. I just love the versatility of that lens! 🧡 Also how convenient for you to assign the custom buttons for different filters!
