Yes! I agreed with all of this. The size is really practical. I have two of them and I have though about getting the 3 and have gotten really close but while it is better in some cases I don't really need it. I'd rather use that money to add 360 or VR180 to my bag of tricks.
2 should be good unless you’re looking for a lot to mount on one shoot

The reason that you get better results in low light at 4k120fps is because it requires a higher shutter speed, and slow shutter speed with stabilisation will look horrible, if you shoot in low light use manual settings , use at least 1/100 shutter with higher ISO and you will have good stabilisation
Yeah that’s true but I just thought the picture quality itself would be reduced so much where it would be unusably dark. I can recover a lot from the video
I really like the action 2 camera. The size and portability of it is just perfect. Like you said, DJI should keep that design and improve some more. A lot of people will continue buying it. I recently purchased a second one because I was on sale at Amazon. I used mine several times for about 20 minutes with no overheating issues. 👍🏼
Yeah I have a few of them now because of the deals at B&H photo. They’re so useful. They just should have been marketed differently

youre probably right, but there IS something there in this form factor for sure. sony had some great successes with their older action cams, they switched up at the start of covid, and the price was really high, they didn't catch on, and sony discontinued them. but someone has to be able to work the form factor into the right product and market it properly. because it really is a great camera. i might also add that the live streaming software in mimo is only a couple tweaks away from also being a top notch live streaming setup too. @@CREATIVEreviews

I agree, I wish they worked on this to make a better version. It's such a versatile camera. All the points you made I agree with! I use a body cam at work, its bulky and the image quality is poor. The DJI action 2 is smaller, no ones notices it on my shirt, better video and its a also a fun POV cam outside of work. I am also using it to shoot you tube videos for work. The cam, 2 batteries, a couple of small lights and that mic you are wearing, its a decent, small and affordable set up. Your ideas are great, I'd add: include a clear magnetic lens filter or a uv filter to protect the lens. I ordered a UV filter for that reason. I will be less worried about any dents, dings or scratches to the screen. Oh..for overheating, I film at 2K or 1080p, no issues so far. Not tried 4k yet, no need to for how I use it.
And now there’s no hope. They just did their “update” and it wasn’t one
Not to mention this is PERFECT for FPV It's so much light than the gopro and it has a screen! only thing that is lighter for FPV is the insta360 go but it doesn't have a screen!

My old tiny Gopro session has Micro SD card, i don't understand why they didn't put at least the SD in the main camera body
I think it’s because they went for a fancy aluminum finish. It would have been good to include a covered usb c port and micro sd card slot in the main little body but it would have compromised the waterproofing and would add to the size.
I’ve grown to love the main unit even with its limitations. I overcame the waterproofing battery pack issue by just getting more base units on the used market
just set the shutter speed to 1/100 and above. It will do the job as same as 120fps
about 4 weeks ago i used one of my action 2 cameras for something a bit risky (if the camera detached from what i had mounted it to, it would have fallen about 3-4 meters, and possibly have got buried in a pile of dirt)
I think i must have had the camera mounted for at least 30 minuites (based on the video lengh of another camera I was using), and the battery ran flat without me realising (i wasn't able to have it on a power module as i knew it would have fallen off), the battery died after just over 20 minuites, and it definatly seemed to be low battery rather than overheat, as i went to turn the camera off, but found it was already off, and when i tried turning it back on it reported the battery was at 4% (so i immidiatly turned it off again)
What resolution and fps were you recording at?

Yeah 20 mins seems about right. Anything 4K 30fps+ will have over heating issues and the battery will last about 20 mins. I’ve been shooting a lot in 1080p power reserve

Handheld, no shake as long as you treat it like a video camera. Even if you run, it’s clear unless it’s dark outside.

I would suggest switching to the insta360 go. It’s good to mount on a bike on magnet clip on to a shirt

I just wish there was a 64GB or 128GB internal storage version, and as you mentioned having it more of a cube format (even just the same depth as the screen module) would make the main module be incredible just on its own.
Same. I use the action 3 when I want a watertight version that records longer but it doesn’t have any internal storage
The depth of the action 2 is shallower than the 3, they could have increased it to at least that for some extra battery power
You got your wish! There is a 128GB version of the Action 2. And it is cheaper than the original price for the 32GB version.

I have and I’m not fan of the form factor. I need to control it from the base unit and see exactly what I’m seeing on the screen
I think people are also missing the fact you can easily put on your shirt / sweater and using no hands record what’s in front of you with no visible straps and visible mount
Only if you stand perfectly still. The magnetic mount can’t be used for walking or else it shakes like crazy
If they put the sd card slot in the main module. Drop the price down to 299.00. For the maim mod and 2 battery mods. That would be an awesome deal. I would grab that in a heart beat. Especially after the insta360 go3 is a major flop imo.
I would up the internal store instead. Having the micro SD card on the main device would make it susceptible to water and increase the base unit size

4k30 20min?? Mine is overheating after 4min (europe)
That’s strange. No units ever have any issues at 4k 30fps with or without the case. Are you sure you’re in 30fps and not 60 or 120fps?
why don't these things come with a lens cover?
This was a super minimal product. They made some magnetic filters but they wouldn’t work with the heat dispersion case and the magnetic filters would just shake off while being used in a shaky situation
Best settings for Video and Photo?
Auto everything at 1080p power reserve 30fps if I need to record for a long time or 4k 120fps if I’m shooting professional for up to about 20 mins

I tried 120 frames a second & camera goes into slow motion after a few seconds
If you upload the files to an iPhone, you can adjust the speed back to realtime on the Photos app

As someone who has a nice cell phone and a nice sony camera this is my favorite action camera by a long shot.
I think the thing it's really missing is HDR cuz it tends to blow out the highlights quite a bit.
The action 3 gained hdr but I honestly never use that. Eventually all cameras will have to film in hdr though. It’s just what looks natural now

these tiny sensors need some hdr to get reasonable dynamic range

Just 32gb of internal storage is killed me in 4K60 or 4K120. DJi really doesn't think. I can't believed it but it is the truth.
Yeah it’s about 20 mins in those formats. Not bad but double the storage and battery and I’d be happier
I don't know why people need a screen.. I use the Sony action camera for live stream and never had any issues with framing. Most action camera have such a wide lens, it's actually difficult to not be in frame, in my experience.
When you want consistency, the screen helps
this camera is for FPV drones, not vlogging. No overheating issues flying through the air, but weight does matter.
It’s absolutely not made for that but definitely can be used for drones. They marketed this and named it action as in an action camera
I like in the UK and overheating shouldn’t happen in the UK, I wonder if it was white would it heat up less. Battery life isn’t good & if the external battery fails the camera is useless.

The sun is not making a difference, it’s the camera producing the heat that causes the overheating
100% us fpv drone guys , this weight and format is unreal !! replaceable front glass , no lcd on camera . just have lcd on power charge pod .. and we set !! 50g vs 150g gopro is alot on a high performance fpv drone that weighs 300-700g
ps i got my first one in 2022 BF sale , power combo 199 ausd ( so thats like 130-140ish usd ) wish i bought a couple when they didnt go on sale that low this black friiday sales
It doesn’t have replaceable front glass unless you send the whole unit for a repair
@CREATIVEreviews I know those features were improvements it needs , Get rid of the lcd on the action camera and only have it on the charging dock . 1 less thing to break !! And make the front glass replacable ( like the old gopro session )

@CREATIVEreviews yea for sure . Actions cams don't need lcd . Blogger selfie cams do thou . If the loading dock has lcd that's enough to take a selfie . But if your using as action cam u just need to know if it's recording or not so ditch the fragile lcd . Or have a tiny settings only one like the old gopro session.
The new camera will be called Action 2 v2. they did it with their goggles. Goggles v2 vs goggles 2. They are kings of shit naming conventions.

Lousy camera!
1 - It heats up within 4 minutes of operation to the point that it is uncomfortable to hold in your hands.
2 - After approximately 8 minutes of operation, it may shut down because "it reached too high a temperature".
3 - You necessarily need the DJI Mimo application to use the camera, but this application is not compatible with all devices, and they do not warn you in any way that you have to check it before buying.
The normal practice is that I buy a video camera, for example Canon, I take it out of the box, and I can use it without anything additional. In the case of DJI Action 2, it does not work like this. You need the application, you need to activate it, you need to open an account in DJI. Too many steps to make it work without even getting an outstanding result compared to other options on the market. Bad product, bad service.
