The 5 precepts are so important for any one who considers themselves a Buddhist. They are part of the basics as much as refuge. But I've met alot of people who are more focused on Vajrayana who don't seem so familiar with them or totally unfamiliar ... and don't practice them. So I'm grateful to Rinpoche for making sure his students aren't ignorant like that. 🙏🙏🙏
Couldn't agree more. Many Vajrayana students of Mahamudra and Dzogchen talk about union of emptiness and appearance, and do not even take the 3 refuges nor the 5 precepts. They hang at the side of their mouths highest teachings of "emptiness", "sunyata", and "non-duality", when they break all of the 5 precepts. Having the strong foundation in Theravada is absolutely important.

I didn't understand the part where the Rinpoche said there was one practice that was more important than vipassana. I don't think he completed that thought in speech. Did he come back to it later? On a side note, when I met the Dalai Lama in 1981 at a small roundtable discussion at UC-Berkeley, I asked him what element, if any, tied all the known Buddhist sects and schools together. He answered with one word, "Vipashyana" (Sanskrit pronunciation of vipassana).
I guess is "the path" of non-meditation, but not as a non-doing because not doing is also a doing... Is beyond the yeses and noes, the union between emptiness and clarity. Pure dzogchen is an example or pure mahamudra. But "to get there", you have to do, vipashyana is a doing, a very advanced doing. What he described sounds like trekcho, the meditation of the mahasandi/dzogchen, notice the true nature of the mind, first as a doing and then spontaneously (non doing).
The next step is mahamudra, mahasandhi or dzogchen keeping shamata vipassana. As I understood, there are different kinds of vipassana. Hopefully the guru teaches us about that. 🙏✨

Maybe: always Remembering impermanence including conceptional mind? Learning to go beyond Beyond? I hope & request that Rinpoché will teach us 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
