    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Dave (Kevin Kline) admits President Mitchell's involvement in the campaign finance scandal before faking a second stroke.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
The ghost of Frank Capra must have smiled when he saw Dave, an amusing and effective update of one of Capra's favorite themes -- the scrupulously honest little guy who becomes a force for good against a corrupt system. Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline) runs an employment agency and seems to genuinely enjoy finding work for people who need it. He also bears a striking resemblance to the president of the United States, Bill Mitchell (also played by Kline) and occasionally gets work as a Bill Mitchell impersonator. One day, Dave gets a call from the Secret Service -- for security purposes, they want to hire him to act as a decoy for an upcoming appearance by the president. All goes well, but later that evening President Mitchell suffers a massive stroke while in bed with his mistress. Wanting to keep the matter a secret, two of the president's top advisors appeal to Dave to stand in as Bill Mitchell until he regains his health. One of the men behind this scheme, Bob Alexander (Frank Langella), hopes to use Mitchell's absence to promote his own right-wing political agenda, but after a few weeks "in office," Dave decides it's time to promote some changes of his own that will help increase employment and keep homeless shelters open. Dave also finds himself growing fond of Ellen Mitchell (Sigourney Weaver), the President's wife, while Ellen sees in Dave the idealism her husband left behind years ago. Dave features numerous cameo appearances by politicians, Washington insiders, and journalists; Oliver Stone also appears to explain a conspiracy theory regarding sudden changes in Bill Mitchell's behavior.

Only now after seeing this years later, I can tell he was setting up for "having a stroke" by acting out some early warning signs before it became obvious. He deliberately stops moving some of the facial muscles on his left (our right) side, pulls the corner of his mouth back and holds it, and makes sure he doesn't smile after a certain point despite looking like he's trying. That's an impressive attention to detail on both the part of the director and Kevin Kline's acting.

      No kidding.
The President needs to be smart enough to determine good policy, humble enough to ask for help when he isn't, wise and brave enough to know when the right thing doesn't mesh with the popular thing, and selfless enough to be able to wield the massive Power that he has been imbued with by the People for their benefit, not his own.

      You think it would matter?
Our elected people have heard these kinds of speeches their whole lives, hell they study them to make their own speeches to get elected. At the end of the day, if we want to elect really great people, we need to stop electing politicians. We need to elect our neighbors and our hard working folks.
A politician has spent their life convincing people they are a great person, but what we need is a good person.

I am from Malaysia. Around 27 years ago, one aspiring politician from my country who dreams of becoming the Prime Minister( head of government) created movement to replace them the Deputy Prime minister ( no 2 post in govt).
The Deputy PM was a humble and honest guy.

This is what a true good president is. This is what our politicians have forgotten. It's not about being reelected, it's not about who can pocket the most money before they are too old, it's about the people, it's about making Americans lives better, it's about being better. We as a country need to remember that we are not hateful, we are not black, white, Hispanic, Asian. We are Americans and. As such we are held to a higher standard. A standard that says to the rest of the world we can do better, because WE ARE BETTER. Better at compassion, better at healing, better at protecting those that need protection, and those that need a hand up.

Perhaps the Americans should do it as the Ukrainians did. Szelensky was also a comedian who played the role of the President, then the Poeple loved him so much, and he became, elected President. Beside that one of the good American comedy's, usually I'm not a big fan of American (- Hollywood)-humor, but this one is different, well done.

I oughtta be willing to give up this whole thing for something I believe in, because if I'm not, then maybe I don't belong here in the first place." It's a charming fantasy we indulge in, in movies like this, and in the Jimmy Stewart classic "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," that an ordinary guy can go to Washington and not just do a great job in politics, but do it better than the jaded, corrupt people doing it already. But you'll note in both movies, the good guy only gets the victory in the end because one of the jaded, corrupt politicians he has to deal with has an attack of conscience and undergoes a _complete_ change of heart, and that, and only that is what saves the good guy from utter failure.
Does anything think it would _really_ happen that way in Washington.

Don't get me wrong Im not a huge DT fan heck not really a fan of him at all. But the warnings Kevin Kliens character is talking about in here about corrupt politicians and what their job should be vs how they usually behave can be applied to every career politician out there in cluding sanders clinton obama and on the right the bush's McCane cruz and so on. So yeah DT is a selfish egotistical type of person but so are all politicians the one thing we can say is different is that while most politicians can say they suceeded by selling what they would/will do to people in order to keep their jobs, DT suceeded by selling what his companies actually did do to the people who wanted it... at least he actually is closerr to the old time political leaders who had a regular job before "serving" granted I feel they did so out of seeing a public need not greed or ego but still that link to the best leaders we had needs to become a standard again
