Sturdy building keeping the fire localized, We have fire doors in the hall way on both sides that can limit the spread and two doors of egress. Sadly the first door is in foyer past the bedroom so the kitchen fire door really does not offer much unless we happen to be in living room or kitchen. My answer? smoke detectors and fire extingusihers.

Chicago used to have a deluge unit that could hit floor 16. But, yes a deck gun would be ridiculous. Fight fire from the interior

Now there is a building that was built properly! A raging fire was quickly contained with minimal extension. Not like other cases where it could take out a whole floor. Well done.

@@azul8811 the Joelma building fire in Sao Paolo Brazil is a fire that changed firefighting starting with the word fireproof which was deleted from the firefighters terms and replaced with fire resistant Why the fire was contained to a small area of the building but the smoke was causing people to think the fire was much worse with many jumping to their deaths to avoid the pain of death by fire. many of those after the fire was actually out and just the smoke was pouring out of the building.
@@davidlenzi3551 The building involved in this fire was a NYCHA building that is part of the Wagner Houses. These buildings were completed around 1954 and were constructed in compliance with the 1938 NYC Building Code. Below is an excerpt from that code relative to classification by type of construction. These terms are still used for those buildings constructed as per the 1938 Code. You will notice that the terms Fireproof and Fire-Protected refer to two different Classes.
Article 4. Classifications
Sub-Article 2. Classification of Structures by Type of Construction
(3.2). §C26-238.0 General.-For the purposes of this title all structures shall be classified, with
respect to type of construction, as follows:
Class 1-Fireproof Structures;
Class 2-Fire-protected Structures;
Class 3-Non-fireproofed Structures;
Class 4-Wood Frame Structures;
Class 5-Metal Structures;
Class 6-Heavy Timber Structures.
The 1938 NYC Bldg code was replaced by the 1968 NYC Bldg code and THAT code used a different classification system. They were either Construction Group I-Noncombustible or Construction Group II-Combustible. Each group was further broken down as below.

ADDTL COMMENTS:
1. The Joelma fire occurred in 1974.
2. I'm not familiar with the 2008 NYC Building Code nor subsequent revisions, but I _believe_ that there are now 5 different construction classifications, none of which use either the terms Fireproof OR Fire-protected.

Ironic that (2:52) an ice cream truck drives into the fire staging area in front of the fire building just as two children are reported missing. Thank heavens they were found, but what was the ice cream truck driver ?!?!
