So much trouble with algebra to get an answer just to be neat? It takes no more than 3-4 minutes for an average student to evaluate and find sqrt(73441). Obviously, 250 < sqrt(73441) < 300. Do evaluation again for 275^2 = ((300+250)/2)^2 , and find that 250 < sqrt(73441) < 275^2 (close). Now, sqrt(73441)=k, with k ending with 1 or 9 digit. Try 271 and voila.
What is the plan? Why were the numbers 81,19 and 100 used? Could it be by rearranging the terms, we have a perfect square? Please do NOT cancel the square root and square. The sq root of x squared is NOT x but the absolute value of x.

= 2 ( a^4 + b^4 + 2 a^2 b^2

Hereby given expression
= √ (( a^4 + b^4 + ( a + b) ^4) /2)
= a^2 + a b + b^2
= 100 + 90 + 81
=271

This shortcut works always for this type of equation: (Sqrt[100^2]+ Sqrt[81^2]+ Sqrt[19^4])*1/2 = (100 + 81 + 361)*1/2 = 271
Its ok, but last should be catch a2+b2= x, and ab = y then formula apply,
I think it will be easy.

36 x 36 = (40 - 4)^2 = 1600 - 320 + 16 = 1296
19^4 = (360 + 1)^2 = 129600 + 720 + 1 = 130321
(100^2 + 81^2 + 19^4)/2 = (10000 + 6561 + 130321)/2 = (146882)/2 = 73441

You can't just eliminate the powers with a sum under the radical. That can be done if it is only multiplication and division.
