Steve Martin was on the show so often. Even during SNL retrospectives when all the original SNL cast members are interviewed Steve Martin is always included in the interviews.
Ah. So
3:50 According to Steve in a 1992 Playboy interview, his question to Bill about whether he'd ever been on TV was improvised. Steve was amazed at how quickly Bill ad-libbed that response. Watch that moment again. Steve panics slightly as he steers the ship back on course.
He said the same thing when I saw him on stage. He said it was one of the fastest adlibs he ever witnessed
Any other Host, including Shakespeare, would be steering that ship to the nearest Baseball Field, for an impromptu "first time on TV" reenactment.
There's one thing you can say about Steve Martin, he's a neat guy.
He and Gilda Radner did a great dance number. Worth looking at.
it was sad and sweet. I remember it well
Look how spare and rough that set looks. I like it. Now the SNL stage is decked out like Grand Central.
Those were the days. Great stuff.
Anytime i wanna crack up dying laughing i watch this🤣🤣🤣
There's nothing like watching something much loved in adolescence to take you right back there...meaning that "Cathedral of Shart" pops unbidden into your head.
Chartres. :)
@@kenaldri4923 No, Son--Shart. It's a pun.
@@anne-droid7739 OK, learned a new word today.
@@kenaldri4923 Oh dear, I think I just contributed to delinquency.
@@anne-droid7739 I'm a big boy, I can handle it :)
Steve's entrance music is one of the show's best alongside George Carlin's from the first ever episode of the show!
It’s crazy that one of the GREATEST hosts of all time hasn’t hosted in more than a decade. What the hell happened?
He has basically been on the Tonight Show every month with Martin Short promoting the everliving crap out of their tour but hasn't hosted SNL once. It's really weird
Probably cuz the show sucks so bad now, it could suck the funny out of ANYONE, Except Louis C.K. of course..
Hodongji he’s made small appearances in the years since he last led a full episode, but those aren’t the same as hosting. It’d be nice to see him do a monologue and whole skits again. I’m NOT counting the thing he did at the 40th anniversary show
Mr. Tulip their show is essentially the premium version of Saturday Night Live. It has its own segments and musical performances and sketches, the same things SNL has. With them hosting the show, it’d be redundant for these reasons, but they can and will obviously participate in original material and it can be accessible to a wider audience (NBC is FREE!!)
Because SNL Helped comedy die.....after the Great Ones
Not gonna lie, I used to think that Steve Martin was a member of the cast.
I think a lot of people did. Growing up I thought that as well
He just fits so much into the craziness of SNL, plus it helped that it made him famous.
Wait, he wasn’t?
@@freddyrichards878 “craziness” lmao
compared to something like eric andre, snl has the tamest shit
Someday, people will think John Mulaney was a cast member.
LOVE Steve Martin!!!
I dig this. And I studied Plotto. And So Crates.
No one cares
I care, Bob. I care.
I remember watching this when it aired.
Me too!
Me, too!!
I was 17 at the time, eating pizza and laughing my head off!!
@@mimiduquette8786 I’m 17 years old now appreciating these brilliant comedians. I wish I could go back in time and get to experience this live
The show must go on.
STEVE MARTIN OPENING HOST!!!
Timeless! 💙💙💙
The "little richard" line didn't get enough love.
I did not expect him to start beating him😂😂😂 He is silly for real😂😂😂
I wish a was alive back then. Everything seems so chill compared to now.
I ain't gonna lie... it was a DIFFERENT LIFE AND DIFFERENT WORLD.
Just living life had a different flavor. I know this sounds like a cranky old man, but there was a kind of relaxed freedom in how people moved through the world. Technology has more to do with it than you think. I would never give up my personal tech, but don't let anyone tell you that it's liberating.
Holy shit , that was hysterical!
Sign of the times
"Apply to infested area."
Words to live by.
Steve Martin was really just as much as cast member as the cast themselves. .. I believe he hosted every year from 75 - 79 ... he brought that excitement that no other. R.I.P Steve Martin gone to soon.... sike! He's still kicking.
Mark Montenaro you got me with the last sentence 🤣
@Kathy Conyers no
Nice!!
0:02 still has that old intro
Next video: snl Steve Martin 1976
he was 33 here. good looking man, but damn he looks a lot older, and its not just the hair
Puuuuuure GOLD!!!!😱😱😱😱🌟💕👌👑👑👑👑💯👏
Earl the Jacuzzi Salesman
Thank you Mr Martin
"... and as I was writing my name my name on [the cathedral] with a can of spraint...." . Vanguard, original comedy delivered by a fearless, professional artist. Steve is one of those rare comedians, like Seinfeld, who has the ability to keep their cutting-edge, insightful humor from crossing the line into gory. I am waiting for the next generation of late-night performers who are unafraid to use their middle fingers when the mindless mainstream says they've gone too far.
Steve is 33 years old here
Steve Martin is a GOAT IMO!!!
Did I assassinate your Penguin ??? 😮
Anyone today who went premature gray would dye their hair. I think it made Steve Martin stand out, a long with his hilarious comedy.
A phenomenon. Not possible now.
I didn't know SNL did comedy
when I was a little kid, I would get Steve Martin and Bill Murray mixed up. Kinda cool to see them together like this
Whaaaat ?
😵💫😵🤮🥶🥵🥺😢😭😱
They could not be more different exept for the Royal status in Comedy.
What about Bob ? 🤔
Never saw this. Thought he was part of the cast.
🖤
Hi so funny
paramount+
I had the app 5 years ago. They charged me 3,000 $. Screw nbc
Back when comedy was comedy, and other stuff was other stuff.
apparently he was only 33yo here...
😅😄
Take away the clapping audience. Suddenly it feels a lot more sinister.
No touchy

Trying hard as always
Not as funny when not stoned.
