He LOVED Bob Dylan..was probably his favorite..it's funny to listen to Bob Dylan in interviews and listen to the words of his music. It gives me a new set of eyes to look at my Dad with...I never really thought of him as a deep thinking man. You got be able to hear Dylan's words and understand his poetry in his music.
Alcohol masks the deeper pain inside. Dylan's music addresses a lot of topics and emotions that help alcoholics face truths that they can't in real life. Your dad was trying to communicate with you. Live well knowing this.
Dylan used to say there wasn’t that much to learn or interpret. In general artist often say that art isn’t that much for interpretation or understanding, but feelings instead, it’s like contemplating a beautiful landscape , it makes you feel awe, basically

2021-04-08: Wow! Thanks ( and thanks again ! ) for posting this. It’s hard to hear most of the questions, but it’s great to hear him talking candidly and comfortably. So much more impact than just reading a transcript. 35 years ago and he’s kind of a regular guy who happens to be really brilliant and insightful.
Out of all the interviews I've seen or heard.. this is the most straight forward. Most of the questions are actually not stupid like most interviews so he's not giving weird answers back. He's asked about his songwriting process and using his subconscious and gives interesting insight.
More or less torture that one couldn't hear the questions! If anybody that actually heard the questions, would you be so kind and write them down here. As obviously his answers are more simplified, than the questions, it would make justice to the "conversation" as such ? To just hear the answers to some questions just don't make sense. And besides the questions usually seem so stupid, One just want to hear for empathy with an artist asked for to explain all of Genesis and what comes after - what a torture If someone could repeat the questions in writing, maybe we all could have answered them without the victims participation? Yeah but it's as if he's always being analyzed he still has to word things just so use vague terms like interesting but not too specific he seems so introverted his stage persona is just to present the poems in song form why do they even need to know all those personal details or expect him to open up to them as if they are a trusted friend instead of some stranger writing for some gossip magazine which is probably what most of them are. I’m basically still an upbulished songwriter, or a better way to say that is that I’ve written an awful lot of songs, but I have for reasons unbeknownst to me, always taken every road but the right road I guess, in getting anything published. I just want to say though, that I think Bob (Zimmermann) Dylan has set the bar very high for lyrics and melodious songs and that’s a good thing. I have written some songs, and I think Bob Dylan has too, that went down with music and lyrics in mere minutes and have never changed again, and others that you never stop tinkering with. Bob, if I ever meet you I would say thank you for giving the world some very nice words and music and songs and moody worlds for us all to roam. Your songs are what Merle Haggard used to say about good tunes. “They sound like they’ve always been here.” I can never thank you enough for you great work in writing the songs that have kept the world in tune with the times. Yep, the tunes that Bob Dylan’s have penned have made this a pretty nice world to be a part of. Unbelievably, or I suppose it’s not so unbelievable, but I’m learning ‘Only a Hobo’ at this moment. The tune has haunted me to the extent where I woke up a day or so ago and said to myself, “Gotta learn this tune.” And it's a beauty--

I always feel that he and The Beatles were asked the stupidest questions over and over. The press just couldn't accept it when he and Lennon insisted they weren't trying to influence or.be responsible for anybody. But the press wanted simple and sensational sound bites. I think the response to that question was a good indication of Robert Zimmerman's relationship with Bob Dylan. Not always). That is his job. The reporter was trying to ask about THAT person, but he was asking the question of someone else - the guy who PLAYS Bob Dylan when he gets on stage. I think Dylan has always understood the disparity between Himself and "Bob Dylan", so obviously he was thrown a bit by the question. His reaction to the followup question reveals that he did understand what he was being asked, but he was not in the mood to be playing Bob Dylan, at that moment. So he responded the way Robert Zimmerman would: "Who is Bob Dylan?" That is to say: "Why are you asking questions about a stage character?

Yes. His patience in the face of stupidity is what's really unusual here. It's 1986, and the Australian press is asking questions that would have been stale 20 years earlier, about rock and "poetry" and "protests" and "movements," everything short of leaders and parking meters. It's so risible that Dylan's politeness in the face of these kinds of inept questions is exceptional.
He hated interviews...he did not want to be held up to be any voice of to the people. It irritated him when they would ask him those types of questions. He never wanted people to think he felt he was above them.

I can barely hear, or can't, the questions posed to Bob, but when he says "(I don't know,) I don't pay attention to anybody else," that's bullshit. How could he not. I wonder why Bob didn't mention the fact that nearly everyone who is bald headed actually don't have any hair at all. Nothing was said about the thousands of people living in Arkansas that really live in Arkansas. He could've at least shed some light on why so many people procrastinate about replacing their commodes for months sometimes years. Other than that this interview was very interesting.

The woman was badgering him with demands that he define himself & tie himself up in a neat little package with a bow. He seems to hate that. His answer to the previous question was something like, well, I'm only Bob Dylan when I have to be. The rest of the time I'm just myself. The woman continues badgering him, in apparently a lame attempt at flirting, so I'm guessing she said something like, well who is the real you, what are you really like? & that's when he says, if you have a few minutes after, I'll show you. He called her bluff. He was either offering to f*** her or telling her to f*** off.
The media/public makes Dylan out to be this man of mystery ( What's he thinking/what does he mean by that ); and so he gives them that. Reality is he's just a kid from Minnesota that got lucky. My guess is he leaves his dirty clothes on the bathroom floor, and leaves the milk on the counter instead of putting it back. Does any of that take away his talent....no of course not, but he doesn't walk on water either ( at least not all of the time )😉

Yes. His patience in the face of stupidity is what's really unusual here. It's 1986, and the Australian press is asking questions that would have been stale 20 years earlier, about rock and "poetry" and "protests" and "movements," everything short of leaders and parking meters. It's so risible that Dylan's politeness in the face of these kinds of inept questions is exceptional.
He hated interviews...he did not want to be held up to be any voice of to the people. It irritated him when they would ask him those types of questions. He never wanted people to think he felt he was above them.
He's rocking back and forth to self-sooth...poor thing really hates interviewing
It's gone from this style of interview to the equally stupid music press now where they ask you what you had for breakfast and laugh at everything you say like goofs
He official stopped doing these 'interviews" after 1986. When he became a Wilbury in 1987 he had it in his contrac tto NOT have to participate in the promotion of their albums. George Harrison said "But he still gets his 20% and the rest of us have to do these dopey interviews" lol

I can barely hear, or can't, the questions posed to Bob, but when he says "(I don't know,) I don't pay attention to anybody else," that's bullshit. How could he not. For example commenting on Pete T.s album, even. I know why he said it, though; I'm sure I would too in a grilling-for-gossip situation like this. Cool to see, though. Thanks for posting!

I wonder why Bob didn't mention the fact that nearly everyone who is bald headed actually don't have any hair at all. Nothing was said about the thousands of people living in Arkansas that really live in Arkansas. He could've at least shed some light on why so many people procrastinate about replacing their commodes for months sometimes years. Other than that this interview was very interesting.

When someone agrees to publically answer questions about their music their acting and their situstions or thoughts related to their work or popularity it dors not make it a free for all on their decisiond. Politics, private life opinions pn the world, organizations. Movements. Other peoples ideas or talents...i watched this interview with great irritation. It was like slowly peeling the layers of the ma🎉ns reasons. Feelings, choices, everything hes ever said, his seasons of change or maturity thrown at him from all sides wanting is reasoning. His private thoughts. His justification for amy and everything he has ever done

The woman was badgering him with demands that he define himself & tie himself up in a neat little package with a bow. He seems to hate that. His answer to the previous question was something like, well, I'm only Bob Dylan when I have to be. The rest of the time I'm just myself. The woman continues badgering him, in apparently a lame attempt at flirting, so I'm guessing she said something like, well who is the real you, what are you really like? & that's when he says, if you have a few minutes after, I'll show you. He called her bluff. He was either offering to f*** her or telling her to f*** off.
The media/public makes Dylan out to be this man of mystery ( What's he thinking/what does he mean by that ); and so he gives them that. Reality is he's just a kid from Minnesota that got lucky. My guess is he leaves his dirty clothes on the bathroom floor, and leaves the milk on the counter instead of putting it back. Does any of that take away his talent....no of course not, but he doesn't walk on water either ( at least not all of the time )😉
I actually think it's more magical knowing he is just a regular shmo like the rest of us. He just embraced his creativity and lived it.
All the traditional music Dylan has stuck his name on over the years, and the way his music is so hard to find on RUclips. He's just a money machine now and has been for many decades. Pun intended.
