I discovered after an hour of frustration of trying to install the new bushing that you were having trouble with. I finally relented and I went straight to God and told Him, why did He create idiots for engineering a vehicle so backwards that another idiot like me can't figure it out. So I told Him since you created these idiots to screw up this whole situation I suggest that you give this idiot whom you've created a chance to FIX IT. Guess what! He told me to turn the steering wheel and I crawled back under the car and lowen behold! In Hawaii we call that sight a "puka" which means hole, it was staring at me clear as day and I placed the bushing in it, wala. God made my day. Thank You Lord
Brilliant video Glen - top job - certainly a big help for me. My 2007 ML320CDI has developed said slop in steering, virtually overnight, which significantly affects steering during driving. On inspection I noted the rubber on the bushings on both sets is significantly depeted and the steering rack is able to wander where the rubber has been. Your video has helped immensely. Thank you.
Hi Glen....my mercedes w204 c class is making a knocking noise when rocking steering left and right...did your ML do same? I've taken my car to several garages who can't find fault...nocking noise.cominf from footwell.. also all arms and inner and outer tie rods changes too
On my W164 there is a steering shaft bearing as the steering goes through the firewall. As that bearing wears I’d gets loose and the there is a click or clunk as you turn from right to left and the play is taken up. Not sure if you have the same set up but worth a look. Cheers
I have a very similar knocking noise when I first start her up and turn left or right, replaced just about everything else might try rack bushing or steering shaft bearing as mentioned.
Glen, thanks so much for your video. Do you have the part numbers for the bushings? I have a 2009 ML 350 4matic (W164) and looks like my entire bushing came out of one of the brackets. Thanks! Will
@@boatinglife1 I have a local guy here in Naples that did the work for me. I felt confident I could have gotten 3 bushings done but not the 4th. He took it as a challenge and eventually got all 4 done but said he wouldn't do it again. LOL
Thanks for the feedback. My son has mentioned that issue too. Weirdly when I check the upload all is fine. But I have switched to a new editing software and tried adjusting volumes on recent videos. If you check my latest on buying at auction maybe you can let me know if the volume is better. Cheers
Glen, great video! BTW, did you try taking out the two bottom bolts on the driver's side engine mount, then lifting up the engine, to get better access to that last bushing?
I did not - the problem was the front diff clearance so I think just loosening the DS engine mount wouldn’t give the clearance where needed. At least that was my reasoning😊. If you’re doing the bushing replacement let me know if that does work 👍

Thanks for the comment and solution. I genuinely didn’t think the rack would move enough. Great solution 👍
So you turned the steering to the right to be able to access the driver side? Thanks in advance

Hi Will, thanks for the comment. This is the p/n I used for my 08 320 CDI

Good luck with your repairs
@@boatinglife1 Ended up buying the parts from MB dealer. Just didn't trust the quality of the bushings from China. Wish me luck!
Good luck👍

Well, hats off to your mechanic for getting the 4 th one out and more importantly getting the new one in. It should be a noticeable improvement.
Thanks mate
Hope it was helpful. Cheers
Bravo
Thanks
Cut the bolt. Buy a new high strength one. Install it backwards
The sound volume is too low and barely audible

@@boatinglife1 I'll be tackling that one sometime in the near future. I will update my comment to let you know whether that is helpful or not.
