What hair I had left was falling out in clumps. I use thermal for 90% of my shooting and spotting, but I thought I would update my photon with the ATN and the ABL, all had been good till tonight. What if I already have the latest firmware I’m having this problem with a Thor 4 640 I just got 3 days ago. First day worked perfect now it freezes up every 15-30 seconds of being on
So when you 0 different platforms are they automatically saved to SD card or do you need to save them separately? Also if they don't, do you just add your coordinates in to your new platforms and it will be all set don't have to re-SHOOT gun...
I’m having this same issue with my Thor 4. I cannot get the blue “Update” icon to show up. When i get the point of pressing power+down buttons simultaneously, I get the following error message pop-up on my computer “USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows 10 does not recognize it.” I have tried restarting the computer numerous times. I tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it numerous times. I tried right-clicking on the software icon and running as administrator...nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My scope basically turns on, does a red flash line, and then goes black. I can hear the shutter when pressing the power button, but the screen is completely black.
Thanks for this! I downloaded the ELF file from ATN and installed as you described. This updated my ThOR 4 to version 483. However, so not do the web update as that takes it back to version 480, where it kept freezing up on me after a minute or two. It worked well after that!
I’ve done everything up to pressing the power button and the bottom button at the same time to turn the “UPDATE” button blue. It will not turn it blue. What should I do?

I noticed it was only my second time using the scope, I’ve got about 20 rounds through the platform, but twice while at the range today my screen went snowy immediately after a shot. I had to turn the scope off and turn it back on and it was fine, my firmware should be updated or so I think? How often do you think it needs done? It’s been updated month and a half ago could I possibly need a firmware update? Or could it possibly be something else? Main thing is it happened right after a shot, while in a sled it may have been jarred from recoil I don’t “lean”on the gun while it’s in a sled. The sleds were pretty well used and there was some clearance for the butt of the stock to maybe jar the gun itself and also the scope of course is what I’m getting at.Could that be the cause of the snowy screen it was “knocked”?
This sucks I’m stuck in the middle of breeding season it’s my only scope and it’s locking up on me now too! Any idea how to actually speak with a human? I got online tried to contact and got a robot. I perform actual humans. Started to get a little frustrated with a product that costs so much that I haven’t even taken an animal with yet. Any suggestions on expediting the process?
I am following all of the directions on the elf and the web. The elf file works but then when I am in update mode for “Web” it goes through but then says, “Failed” at the end. I can get a reticle to come up but I can’t go to the settings or anything else. Is it the sd card? I also tried doing the update with and without the sd card. Please help me. Please

I'm guessing that ATN has a "repair budget" that they have maxed out for the quarter and won't take any more warranty work until new quarter refreshes warranty budget? They are pretty sure it is the core but they will not send me a RMA# to send it in? In fact ever since I e-mailed all required info to them I have heard nothing and they will not answer or return emails or phone calls! Was hoping this would help my scope since they don't want to!
I just bought a refurbished 640x480 Thor 4 directly from ATN. The scope worked for 30 minutes. Now it freezes instantly when turned on (and i have to hold power button 15 seconds to turn off). Whatever they are doing to "refurbish" their products is obviously not working. I clearly got a dud and I'm pretty frustrated. I have not tried your solution because it seems like a temporary fix. Do you work for ATN? Will they make it right? Or should I take it up with my credit card company?
@@SouthernWoodsandWater Haven't installed an SD card yet. A got a 64gb HC class 10 per the manual. I will try the reset tonight and test it to see if it freezes again... I hear some people have never had problems with their scope and some people have endless problems until they return or get it replaced with a brand new one. Wish me luck
Did the first fw update with file selected and it finised the update, but still didnt have a screen come up when i tried to power the scope on. Powered off again by holding the power button for 15 secondsand doing the update with web selected now. Hopefully I can get something to show on the screen after it finishes. Any idea if it doesn't?

You don't reboot when it says reboot... Itll do it automatically, wait until it says finished to power down and then turn on the scope. Try the process again.
installed the elf, and played your video while doing this.. got more success in actually using the scope, but it still freezes up every now and then.. any ideas?

My ATN scope won't even turn on when I press the Power on and Down button to try and download the firmware. There is a clicking sound but the screen never comes on. Any suggestions?

Try a different USB cord, or plug it into a different USB power source. This worked for me to avoid the Failed message. Unfortunately, even after I downloaded and updated the firmware, this scope still freezes every time I use it. Its basically a cool looking paper weight now.
I’m having an issue with the smf on the compass on my 4K pro 5x20. No matter what I do it won’t go away. Will doing this reset help with this issue as well?
ok so I tried this update my 4k pro worked fine other day got it sighted in to 100 yards . next day I went to go use it and all it shows in like the screen like I can look through the scope and see and it moves with enviorment but I dont have the cross hairs or any of the other stuff I cant power it down without holding the power button for 15 sec then turn it back on and its the same thing and I tried the factor firm wear rested did it it downloaded just fine but still no fix after power on please help
Trying this for my Thor4 and get all the way to pressing the power and back button momentarily at the same time and the scope powers up and the only way I know it does is because of computer makes the noise that something is connected but the UPDATE button never lights up blue? I was sure to DL the Thor4 elf and have (thor4) selected on that step so I'm not sure now! Maybe ATN is right and my core is bad?
@@etchediniron4249 I finally got a return # from ATN and sent it to them! Upon getting it back it would black out the screen after every shot. Sent that back and after having it 3 months they sent me a new one. I wish you luck!
Great video, very instructional and easy to understand. Everything worked just exactly the way that you explained it. I finally had to update my computers to Windows 10 to be sure everything was working correctly. Thank You for all your help
4K was working great then it froze. I have retical and widgets in viewfinder but all are frozen. I have done this video instructions to the T with no avail. Scope goes through all steps in video but still comes back to frozen screen of retical and widgets. Any more help would be great. Thanks
Updated the 486 last night, no problem, didn't freeze, put 2 profiles in for 22or & 17hmr, no problem,, got up this morning,, I turn it on, it starts up, but almost immediately clicks , just a video screen with no with Widgets, or any information on screen and completely unresponsive, I've hard stopped it 6 times , just a video screen, any ideas

Left and right arrows simultaneously pressed Equal the "ok" button since it wasn't working after reset. I used micro SD card with new firmware on it, then inserted and powered on and selected confirm update while pressing both side buttons since ok button didn't work after Elf reset. Thank you if It weren't for this video I would not have been able to go hunting tomorrow.
My computer makes a tone when I hit the power and down button but The update button will not turn blue? I saw some other people had this issue? Any Ideas? Still working on this one?? OK ***GOT IT TO WORK!*** LOL see my reply to myself...
Ok, So I kept trying to get the update button to turn blue with the same results of it not working. I then closed all apps on my computer, deleted the atn software and bin files elf files etc. Started fresh and it worked. I think originally I got some things out of order. I think I had powered up the scope instead of powering it up using power and down key(the first time right of the bat), I had my sd card in it for some of it. etc. What ever I had done messed something up with the process. Only way I got it to work was the deleting everything, closing all apps, re booting my computer, and to start fresh. Hope this helps someone. It was driving me crazzzzzzy!
Also I think I was jumping the gun. On step one it’s holding at “waiting to reboot” is that something I need to do on scope? Has not had dialogue box pop up that is finished yet.
Cool. Too bad it did not work. My Thor is in a grey screen unable to turn off or function… irritating as hell considering it was working fine yesterday.
It is the Mars 4 (known as Thor 4 in US) When I turn it on screen gets first black then grey and there goes a black stripe from left to right then works for a few seconds then screen is grey again ☹️.

Hello again Mr. Southern Predator Tactics. My new friend who is trying to fix my ill x sight pro asked me if i have the original cable. I don't cos it broke. He said that my non original may be the problem in unfreezing my scope. This is very hard to source in Ireland so far. How different do believe the ATN cable could be? I thought everyone had agreed on a standard cable some years ago to prevent waste. Please sir. Jimmy. ( He also told me this evening that he would try to put the fix in with the new memory card I just bought)

Southern Predator Tactics screen wont expand. Pressed the power and down button and then turned it off and all is good but second time this has happened now 🙄.. might need to upgrade firmware as i havent done it for 12 months..
I get as far as run as administrator. Then I click next but I get a different box. It says welcome ATN firmware update Set up. Then I click next and it wants me who install something C:\Program Files\ATN\ATNFirmwareUpdate

This corrected the problem with my brand new scope. That being said, why are we all having this issue with brand new equipment? Considering returning mine for refund. I’m not sure I can trust this for hunting.
I had the same problem this weekend. I decided to let the battery drain. Once the white screen was gone, I tried powering it back on. Guess what, everything was back to normal. The battery was critically low, and powered back off in 3 seconds. Next I connected it to the charger to see what it would show, I powered it on right away. Still normal, but now charging as well. I went ahead and shut it off to leave it charging. I will let you guys know my findings tommorow. Fingers crossed, and I won't have to go through all that jazz.
thanks a ton. was hunting last night everything was perfect. get home to power up scope to mess with some stuff. gray video. no buttons, no menus no anything. hold power for 15 to shut down. restart nothing works. did these steps. back up and running. hopefully can go kill some dogs tonight now!
I have no problems with the installation of the program, but it seems that the device just doesn't want to connect. Here's a screen recording of what's happening on my end. As you can see the button doesn't want to stay BLUE. Seems like it is having connection issues. Computer has been restarted numerous times and the same thing happens. Mind you that after pressing DOWN + POWER buttons and the blue flickering goes away the scope will not turn on therefore I have to hold down the POWER but for what seems like eternity until I hear a click then I can power the scope on again. FINAL UPDATE: 4/14/2020 I do not know why my USB ports was causing that, but all I did was switch to another USB ports and the UPDATE button finally stayed "LIT BLUE" for me and I was able to finish the EFL programming firmware plus the update the current firmware of 3.1.08.451 onto my X-Sight 4K Pro. Whew!!!! What a relief. Glad I save my zero information and profile and imported them back to the scope. I will verify my zero again and re-zero the ABL 1000 I have attached to it. I hope that the blank screen issue will be fixed from now on.
Out of curiosity, once you successfully completed this latest update, have you paired an X-TRAC or ABL to your scope? If so, have there been any issues?

I got it back working! After restarting he computer again, it worked. I guess the 5th time was a charm.

My ATN program don’t have the option to enter the expert mode. Tried to reinstall the program and it wont work. Any advice?

Do the process and you'll be fine... But.. What sd card are you running? 16gb SDHC Class 10 is ideal. Have you used the obsidian 4 appm

Which scope? What sd card are you running? Are you using the obsidian 4 app?

My computer makes a tone when I hit the power and down button but The update button will not turn blue? I saw some other people had this issue? Any Ideas? Still working on this one??
OK ***GOT IT TO WORK!*** LOL see my reply to myself...
Ok, So I kept trying to get the update button to turn blue with the same results of it not working. I then closed all apps on my computer, deleted the atn software and bin files elf files etc. Started fresh and it worked. I think originally I got some things out of order. I think I had powered up the scope instead of powering it up using power and down key(the first time right of the bat), I had my sd card in it for some of it. etc. What ever I had done messed something up with the process. Only way I got it to work was the deleting everything, closing all apps, re booting my computer, and to start fresh. Hope this helps someone. It was driving me crazzzzzzy!

When downloading the second step from the web, it starts and then says failed? Any ideas why?
Usually bad internet connection. Restart the computer
Also I think I was jumping the gun. On step one it’s holding at “waiting to reboot” is that something I need to do on scope? Has not had dialogue box pop up that is finished yet.

With standard youll have the factory zoom level. With extended, youll have more zoom, but itll be pretty pixelated, but usable
Cool. Too bad it did not work. My Thor is in a grey screen unable to turn off or function… irritating as hell considering it was working fine yesterday.
Followed everything, scope still very unstable and screen gets grey, any solution?

It is the Mars 4 (known as Thor 4 in US) When I turn it on screen gets first black then grey and there goes a black stripe from left to right then works for a few seconds then screen is grey again ☹️.
Got it back today with replaced eyepiece and core. Problem now is can’t find sd card? Any solutions?

Talked to ATN, they sent me FedEx label to ship scope back to them. Still waiting to hear back from them on what will take place

Hello again Mr. Southern Predator Tactics. My new friend who is trying to fix my ill x sight pro asked me if i have the original cable. I don't cos it broke. He said that my non original may be the problem in unfreezing my scope. This is very hard to source in Ireland so far. How different do believe the ATN cable could be? I thought everyone had agreed on a standard cable some years ago to prevent waste. Please sir. Jimmy. ( He also told me this evening that he would try to put the fix in with the new memory card I just bought)
A USB C cord is what it is. Get a good quality one

What file did you download?
You don't open the actual update file
You also need to use Windows 10

Southern Predator Tactics screen wont expand. Pressed the power and down button and then turned it off and all is good but second time this has happened now 🙄.. might need to upgrade firmware as i havent done it for 12 months..
I get as far as run as administrator. Then I click next but I get a different box. It says welcome ATN firmware update Set up. Then I click next and it wants me who install something C:\Program Files\ATN\ATNFirmwareUpdate
Thats the installer, you have to run that first, then youll have the program on your desktop

Are you doing it with the scope off? They also have to be pressed at the same time

This corrected the problem with my brand new scope. That being said, why are we all having this issue with brand new equipment? Considering returning mine for refund. I’m not sure I can trust this for hunting.

Yeah... That card isn't going to work in the scope.
Take some time and read the owners manual. Learn about the scope. It will save you alot of headache in the future

are you still doing this weekly? I would describe that as a not functioning properly. Did you return or replace your unit?
I had the same problem this weekend. I decided to let the battery drain. Once the white screen was gone, I tried powering it back on. Guess what, everything was back to normal. The battery was critically low, and powered back off in 3 seconds. Next I connected it to the charger to see what it would show, I powered it on right away. Still normal, but now charging as well. I went ahead and shut it off to leave it charging. I will let you guys know my findings tommorow. Fingers crossed, and I won't have to go through all that jazz.

thanks a ton. was hunting last night everything was perfect. get home to power up scope to mess with some stuff. gray video. no buttons, no menus no anything. hold power for 15 to shut down. restart nothing works. did these steps. back up and running. hopefully can go kill some dogs tonight now!

I have no problems with the installation of the program, but it seems that the device just doesn't want to connect. Here's a screen recording of what's happening on my end. As you can see the button doesn't want to stay BLUE. Seems like it is having connection issues. Computer has been restarted numerous times and the same thing happens. Mind you that after pressing DOWN + POWER buttons and the blue flickering goes away the scope will not turn on therefore I have to hold down the POWER but for what seems like eternity until I hear a click then I can power the scope on again.
ATN has been contacted so I'm hoping to hear from them soon.

FINAL UPDATE: 4/14/2020 I do not know why my USB ports was causing that, but all I did was switch to another USB ports and the UPDATE button finally stayed "LIT BLUE" for me and I was able to finish the EFL programming firmware plus the update the current firmware of 3.1.08.451 onto my X-Sight 4K Pro. Whew!!!! What a relief. Glad I save my zero information and profile and imported them back to the scope. I will verify my zero again and re-zero the ABL 1000 I have attached to it. I hope that the blank screen issue will be fixed from now on.
