    I just cleaned my Pro Gear last night. After watching your video, I have decided to ink it up and use it again.
    Actually, Sailor is one of my favorite brands. And, I am very glad to see that you do a video for a sailor FP.
    Thanks!
    from a FP geek from Korea~

    Bang on the cartridge size. Even the barrel is small. Everything else good about this pen. I love mine.

    I bought a "Professional Gear" Slim Gold, Black (H. "M"), and I love their 'feedback' mixed with smooth writing on the paper, like the four wheel drive control on a mountain road. I think that if with good conventional nibs you can have the controlled stroke with good pulse, with this nib you do not need it.
    The best nib that I have ever used.

    I bought the Pro Gear Realo a few weeks ago which is a piston filler with a cool ink window. The piston fixes the ink capacity issue somewhat and the broad nib writes with what Id describe as a medium plus line width (depending on the quality of paper- higher quality paper = narrower line width) and I'm happily using it currently as my daily writer in work. Can't be doing with converters running out of ink in meetings and the ink window is a good size and very useful.

    I got a regular Professional Gear last week as my first Sailor, and it's definitely my best performing pen. I only wish I got the larger ProGear II or the 1911L; even for someone with fairly small hands this one is tiny.
    Thanks for the review.

      Should you be interested: I'm selling a 1911 Large on my website.

      My first sailor was the 1911L and it really does not feel large at all. Writes beautifully and all, it lives up to the name no doubt.

      The Professional Gear and the 1911 Large are the exact same pen save for the additional ~1cm length provided by the cigar shaped 1911 Large.

    Nice review Stephen! As a Scandinavian I appreciate the minimalist design of Japanese pens. I totally agree that the Sailor nibs are fantastic and buttery smooth. I've got Sapporo M/F nib tuned by Mr. Mottishaw and 1911L with reverse oblique nib which are both great for a leftie.

    I have two Sailor Realo's that are among my favorite FP's. I concur, excellent nibs and comfortable writers for me. The fact that they are piston fillers was the main reason I chose this model over others in the Sailor line. I definitely think Sailor should release more in the way of piston filling pens. Good review.

    Is it possible to just turn a Pro Gear into an eye dropper filler?

    Stephen great review as always!!! just one thing, gotta remember that this is a model from the Cocktail series, thus it represents a cocktail... if you look up Piccadilly cocktail you'll see it's red and white so it's quite accurate. Don't worry that just speaks good about you since it means you don't drink :D (of course I don't drink... much lol)

      Will someday you please use a pen (not a Sailor, minimal capacity) as a drinking implement? C'mon!

    My first "expensive" pen will probably be a sailor. They seem very reliable and excellent writers.

    Your brogue has mellowed a lot in the past couple of years.

    Quick question. You say the Japanese medium writes like a western fine. If I love a good western medium, should I order this with a Japanese broad nib?

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  8 лет назад +2

      Yes, that's exactly what I would do, especially if you don't get the HB (hard broad) but the regular broad, which is a nice, slightly springy nib.

    • @danielkazda1822
      @danielkazda1822 8 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the quick response! I shall go with the regular broad nib. I am looking forward to writing with their beautiful 21k nib. Keep posting the best of the best fountain pen reviews. You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!

    Did the nib not have "H-M" engraved on it? Or, is it a fine as later stated?

    Do you prefer the nib of the pelikan m400/m600 or this pen, and which pen would you prefer?

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  9 лет назад +1

      +Chris Fink I think I prefer the Pelikan nibs for their smoothness and those pens because they're piston-fillers.

  • @MrCarGuy
    @MrCarGuy 9 лет назад

    Haha, thats funny you said that. The second Sailor I ever bought had a bad nib right out of the box.

    I have a Pro gear HB. is there a cartridge in market to buy to increase its capacity?

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  7 лет назад

      Viz Art Sailor cartridges are proprietary, so no. There is only one size of Sailor cartridge, unfortunately.
