To prevent squirrel problems it can be useful to cut another piece of wood with an entrance hole to screw over the entrance. For Screech owl entry hole, make it an oval, 2.75" high and 3" wide. Than is 7 x 8 cm for metric folks. Mount these at least about ten feet high or 3 meters. If you mount them very high there is a risk the chicks could take a tumble and get hurt. Screech owls feed on white footed forest mice and voles which act both as disease reservoir and hosts to ticks. Owl nest boxes can reduce the risk of tick born disease.

Thanks Mark for your comment.
Very helpful.
How big is the entrance hole?
Not supposed to put perches on owl boxes
If mounted to a tree. If mounted to the side of a house, they are helpful for owl.
Some owls benefit from perches/porches, but not screech owls
