From what I understand they decided that the sap can only disrupt tek EQUIPMENT and not STRUCTURES. ie: Tek Armor/weapons/saddles and not tek turrets

I can't say I blame you my friend - spawns are extremely low and oftentimes contested as a result. The creature is neat, but I feel like this was just made to hold people over a while longer and maintain interest in their new releases.
