A lot of the big big classes in Starfleet get a lot of the attention like the Constitution, Galaxy and Sovereign but it's the workhorses that are the true heroes of the fleet. The Centaur is one of them and very successful at that. Thanks for another great video.
A perfect example of a ship that was truly ahead of its time, that got a chance for that time to catch up to it. so it could do what it was designed to do.
I really like this design, since I first see it on DS9 capture my imagination and I run to buy an Eaglemoss model of the Centaur class, thanks for remake and update this review 🖖🏻
Like putting a big block Chevy in a '32 Ford deuce coupe, small vehicle big engine and soooo much fun, just like this video. Well done, I thoroughly enjoyed it!! Bravo!
I always like think that every top of the line ship gets a "little sister" version that's a budget, slightly less capable version. The constitution got the miranda, the excelsior got the centaur, the galaxy got the nebula etc.
The internal volume of the miranda was also greater than the internal volume of the constitution as well Remember, there’s a difference between internal hull volume, and dimensional size due to arrangement/layout
I like this ship. Almost like the tos Era type. It speaks of like the frigates of the age of sail. Patrol, search and rescue etc. A reliable ship in the back lines that doesn't take long to build, nor require many crew. I thought it was rather like a simplified defiant class..
🖖😎👍Very cool and nice looking starship indeed, Any ways a very nicely and well done job and very informatively explained and executed in every way and detail indeed 👌.
This seems to have sparked my imagination….such that…I am now going to go write some notes for a new starship design for a fanfic. Merci. Great video, as always
Thank you for sharing this. I really appreciate the love you put into this. Definitely an awesome supporting cruiser - I remember reading in the Dominion War Trilogy novels that it was thought of as an All purpose truck - versatile, and useful. I think that this overview further solidified that notion. Well Done.
I can't express how much I love this video especially the background music it was perfect for this video. You do outstanding work! PLEASE don't ever stop!
I have always loved the look of the Centaur class, one of the few ships that I don't feel the need to change. Its cool enough right out of the box. While smaller than the Miranda I always thought of the Centaur as their back-up. When pressed into service after Wolf 359, the Centaur would make a great patrol/scout craft. Especially with the new updated warp cores, I would assume they also upgraded the Phasers and shields as well...right?
It's amazing how twenty odd years can totally rebuild your memory, as this isn't how I remember the one from DS9 lol. Very Interesting nonetheless as I didn't know the class was that old.
I got interested in the Centaur Class, thanks to Retro-Badger's Bridge Commander videos. I do like the idea that the Centaur Class shares the same style warp core as the Defiant. It's a really neat touch.
Your videos add something Star Trek canon seems to lack, and that's design rationale and continuity. I like that you try to provide some kind of reason for the ship class designs and aesthetics, and have created an evolution narrative. I've found I enjoy these videos even if I don't necessarily always like the ships themselves. I salute your creativity. Thanks for sharing your talent.
I can see them pulling out old classes after Wolf-359 and updating them just to get hulls into space, but I don't see them making more of this class. It would take just as long to retool shipyards to make these guys as it would to get production going on newer classes and the newly designed ships would be far more capable with the new tech than refitting old ships. I do agree that old ships can find new life by being refit with new tech and would be great patrol and policing vassals out of internal star bases, they would also work to help maintain large amounts of experienced crewmen that can be pulled to replace those that are lost in frontline duty. New recruits have to gain experience somewhere that isn't on the front lines of a war.
When playing Star Trek Online and I choose a Miranda class ship, I'll give it the Centaur class saucer and keep the Miranda style roll bar. It looks cool. Great video sir!
So cool that you updated your original video of the Centaur Class with this one👍. Any chance you’ll be doing a truth or myth beta canon video on Discovery’s Shepard Class Starship?
I always thought this should be called a Constellation and the Constellation Class should be the Centaur. It makes more sense for a four nacelle design to be named after a Centaur.
A elegant shop design I would love to serve on this ship!amazing video as always!but can I request to see a video like this on the endeavour class as you have made a special presentation on what the ship looks like, but not about it’s early design history, and can I also request a video on the 22nd century Poseidon class as it is from a earlier time in starfleet and the earlier starfleet ships have always fascinated me,idk why also thank you for planning carnassial ship designs !I can’t wait for that video and I know it won’t disappoint :D
So sorry about those spelling mistakes my auto correct keeps correcting it I will be sure to check what I write next time to prevent Giu Waisting time on several comments!sorry again 😅
When you get stuck in a very underwhelming ship as your first assignment but you want to look like the new hotness in Starfleet. Miranda out, Centaur in.
when the US military 5 ton truck of Starfleet, the Excelsior class, is need. But you only have parts. Let Starfleet Ordnance Corps of Mechanic mesh those parts together. To give you, an scout class type vessel, with the reliability of the 5 ton truck. ~CSM Shawn Harper SOCoM NCOIC
love your videos , but what do we know about how crew members did on their off hours in beta cannon and your imagination going back the nx enterprise to the current star ship
as always Great job ? for u what was the last very most up to date Maranda class ship i mean did star fleet ever make a dreadnought version of it if so could we see it it in tion i hate to bead a dead house so to speck but it would be fun to see those old ships in the prime and see what they Really could do
These videos often mention an in-universe present day but between all the shows, movies, games, etc we're at different points in the timeline. What do we consider present day?
Hello TAS The Centaur was a 'failure' when originally launched. But with upgrades it became a feared little Light Cruiser. Fast, Maneuverable, and Powerful, it mostly out performed ships of equal tonnage, and even those larger than a Centaur Class ship. Twin Torpedo Launchers fore and aft enabled the Centaur to fire while closing to 'beam' ranges, and again while overflying and speeding away from it's target. Having to 'dodge' torpedoes as the Centaur closed would throw off most Enemy ships from their own attack runs, only to be beamed by Phasers more powerful than anticipated once the distance closed to that range... and then the Centaur would fly past it's target and the Aft Launchers would 'attack'. Any Enemy failing to note the aft torpedoes would be hit and hit hard by such a 'Parthian' attack by the fast little cruiser. In addition, the aft launchers made 'stealth' attacks from the rear of the Centaur much more hazardous.
Not my favorite class, but I certainly don't hate the type by any means.....ask me the only real issue this class has is it deserves phaser strips, and more credit than it gets.
I never liked this ship. I always thought it was a lazy and unimaginative design. I did see another design of it to bring it into line with the Miranda style , that was a sweet looking ship
Okay I'm confused??? You said Starfleet choose to keep the larger Miranda and excelsior vessels over the centaur vessel how is the Miranda larger if the centaur has an excelsior saucer section and excelsior warp nacelles . Those nacelles are pretty big Miranda has enterprise type nacelles and smaller ones at that. So how is Miranda larger?
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios not a knock, they just look alil to "Forward". Awesome skin though, with great detail. Made me sad that it's not viable in STO after lvl15ish lol

The internal volume of the miranda was also greater than the internal volume of the constitution as well

A reflection I feel of the federation of the golden age, though with a little more teeth

The Miranda may appear small, but it isnt, having more internal volume then even the Constitution Class Refit!
Cool vid, but nacelles don't quite look right in this newer render

It doesn't have one, like the Miranda, Oberth, Constellation Classes etc... Like those classes, it uses Deflector Emitters!
