- The Nigerian Civil War remains one of the most defining moments in the history of Nigeria and the Igbo people. When General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu left Biafra in 1970 for exile in Côte d'Ivoire, it marked a turning point not just in his life but in the story of post-war Igbo identity. How did he navigate exile, diplomacy, and survival to become a revered Igbo leader upon his triumphant return in 1982?
A new book, Ojukwu: Exile, Diplomacy, and Survival, written by renowned journalists and former aide to Ojukwu, Kanayo Esinulo, sheds light on this extraordinary journey. Is this the book that finally answers long-standing questions about Ojukwu’s years in exile?
Join Alex Ogbodo on Eastern Eye, Afia TV’s premier socio-political program, as he delves into this critical historical narrative with his guest, Chief Chuks Iloegbunam, a highly acclaimed writer, journalist, and historian. With six books to his credit and a deep understanding of the Nigerian Civil War, Iloegbunam offers invaluable insights into Ojukwu’s legacy and the book’s significance.
Watch as we discuss:
a. Ojukwu’s transition from a wartime general to a post-war Igbo leader

Nice one. Biafra will soon come. Amen
BIAFRA is unstoppable and not negotiable, we must continue ✊🏾
Still stuck in the past, I see.
It is unacceptable for the Afia tv host to describe Ojukwu as rebel.
Thank you sir for saying the truth unlike some efulefu who point finger at Ojukwu instead of Gowon and his external handlers.
You guys are always looking for something to complain about, go and Anchor a program for others to watch, Cho Cho Cho all the time, he retracted it but no you want to rip him apart?
Odogwu
Why are we still stuck in the past? Are we ever going to make terms and peace with our past😢?
You need to look back at the past and events that happened in the past and understand what is happening at present.
@kingsleyikenna1894 yes but when do we firmly move forward?? These constant exploring and examining the past has to end sometime.
It's hard to move on or to forget the past because what happened in that past is still happening. If Nigeria had repented and made changes, believe me this present generation wouldn't remember or even know whatever that happened in the past.
Our past is unforgettable, our future is blazing bright, our children don't know what happened, they need to know, it's essential
How do you survive then if you refuse to know your past ? there was injustice meted to biafrans by Gowon and his external handler, its still going on unabated. Its too painful ! bro, to let go.
