It was the Queen of Tsawwassen that served the southern gulf Islands primarily before the Nanaimo took over. I rode the Queen of Tsawwassen to Galiano Island for pretty much my entire childhood.
This ship was the only B.C. ferry to ever run on Bunker C before it was stretched. I rode it like that once, around labour day weekend 1972 and boy did it stink. I never rode it again until 2007, then again in 2008 then finally in 2009. Farewell, Queen of Nanaimo!
Are you sure? The Sidney, Tsawwassen, Victoria, Vancouver, Burnaby, Prince Rupert (and maybe others) all had the fuel purifiers, fuel pipes, steam heating etc required for it.
So Sad to say goodbye to an old freind, I would take her to get to Saturna island from Tsawwassen, but i have a video of the MV Salish Ravens first day of service, which was Augest 3rd, 2017.
@@daveboydell2896 The reason came down to what other vessel could they run on the comox route? There wasn't, they were all busy, or they weren't feasible for the route. So they didn't do proper maintenance on her. She had a refit in the early 2000s after her work of being rented out as a liner, she was brought back so they could retire the Queen of Sidney. She was only refit for the purpose of the Comox route, skipping out on renovating the upper lounges. And ever since I don't think she ad any maintenance besides cleaning the rust off of the outside, to make it look nice on the outside. Luckily after they got the Salish class and phased out the burnaby, they actually can have an extra vessel to properly maintain the queen of burnaby. in fact, the salish orca is probably the first NEW vessel the Comox route has ever got, before they would get OLD boats crapped on it.
Fun Fact: at 2:28, the line visible on the funnel marks where they raised it during the 1974 stretching process of the vessel.

I wonder just how many hours I spent on that and the Tsawwassen...
She was so old, she had wooden doors
I miss the Queen of Burnaby. It was such a great ship.
The Queen of Nanaimo was in much better shape than the Burnaby for some reason.
