Extremely smooth according to the early 30s dance trends, and also gently danceable, the gorgeous vocal complets this quality in all aspects recording, I'd really like to search for other versions because the tune is so lovable and haunting too, for all us who appreciate and treasure all those long gone BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN Sounds… .thank you for sharing

roybo1930, you have such impeccable taste.😁 I feel I should type this...I want to thank you for all that you do! You may not know it but you help brighten my days with something I'll love 'til the day I pass away, THIS sweet music. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates your efforts.😉 I'll never understand why folks cannot take just a minute to type some fine, motivating words to express their thanks...🤔 Ya know your sorta like a historian, preserving and sharing melodies that quite a few of us haven't heard...it means SO much. Keep posting these gems and I'll keep tuned in! Remember: Don't Stop The Music!💖

    Homestead label?
    I'm gob smacked.
    A Crooning Kaufman?
    I'm gob smacked.
It's a welcome and intriguing performance of that depression era classic! Thanks for posting this unheard of rarity!
None of my Irving Kaufman's sound like this! 🎉❤

"Two Irish blue eyes are shining"
The luck of the Irish was with this pleasant laid back foxtrot as beautifully performed by that popular and prolifically recorded dance orchestra of Lou Gold. This talkie tune was from an Irish themed movie with an Irish cast and starring an old time Irish tenor named John McCormack! So look what they did? They waited till the Irish holiday of St. Patrick's Day, March 17th to record it on!! 😋

I don't think it was a coincidence, but planned by Fox Movietone as part of the movie promotion, which even sent the director Frank Borzage and crew to Ireland to film it!

Fox finished the film in Hollywood, complete with two songs supplied by readers of Photoplay movie magazine, who responded to a full page ad asking which song do you want to see McCormack sing in his first triumphant talkie?! All this hullabaloo went on and star buildup for the old rotund concert tenor, and the picture flopped!

One good thing happened. Young Maureen O'Sullivan was brought over from Dublin to appear in the picture. Her first. Though her performance was panned by Photoplay, who thought she should go straight back to Dublin and forget about the movies, she became a big screen favorite. Found fame as "Jane" in the Tarzan movies. The Thin Man, David Copperfield, and many film classics. She was the mother of actress .Mia Farrow.

Poor John McCormack believed all the ballyhoo the Fox publicity department must have dished out about what a great new talkie sensation he would be after this picture went over, so he let go his Park Ave apartment with it's five year lease and moved to Hollywood! He invested in property and a house before this first picture was even "in the can." Trusting in those Hollywood fast talkers! When the picture tanked, so did John's career as a Hollywood film star. All that's left is this forgotten song to delight us and enjoy. Thankyou Roybo for sharing another "new" old melody from your swell 78 collection with us! 🎶 😊

I fully second Old_Soul's heartfelt comment and I thank you so much for yet another outstanding side by the great Lou Gold :-) Both the orchestral performance and the vocal by Joe Wilbur are great. I loved this!
