Thank you Dr Saiyad for responding to my request. This is indeed a gold mine of information. I would like to note that most of the books that you have recommended stem from the "Traditionalist" school and some from a catholic perspective. It seems like there is a serious lack of scholarship in this regard from an Islamic perspective. The Quran and the Secular Mind by Shabbir Akhtar could be sighted as attempting to do this but it still has a soft approach towards modernity. And may I ask Dr Saiyad's opinion about the writings of Wael Hallaq. Never the less your list is enticing and would like to thank you once again for making this video. Here are the books recommended by Dr Saiyad 1) The idea of progress - by J.B Bury - 04:23 2) The last superstition a refutation of the new atheism by Edward Fazer - 06:29 3) Wired magazine The New Atheism - 06:59 4) The age of nothing, How we have sought to live since the death of God by Peter Watson - 07:35 5) The new atheism myth and history by Nathan Johnstone - 07:46 6) Seven types of atheism by John Gray - 08:10 7) God's funeral a biography of faith and doubt in western civilization by A N Wilson - 08:23 8) Leisure the basis of culture by Joseph Peeper - 09:44 9) The technological society by Jacques Ellul - 11:12 10) Propaganda the formation of men's attitudes Jacques Ellul - 11:58 11) The pentagon of power the myth of the machine by Lewis Mumford 12:16 12) The age of surveillance capitalism by Shoshana Zubov- 13:04 Books by/on Rene Guenon 13) Crisis of the modern world -14:06 14) The reign of quantity and the signs of the times 15) Prophet for a dark age by Graham Rooth - 14:44 Books by/on Frithjof Schuon 16) Light on the ancient worlds - 15:43 17) Essential writings of Frithjof Schuon - Edited by S H Nasr - 15:46 18) Ancient beliefs and modern superstitions by Martin Lings - 15:59 19) King of the castle choice and responsibility in the modern world by Gai Eaton - 16:18 20) This book the essential Titus Burkhart 16:45 21) The essential writings of A K Kumara swami - 16:48 22) The order of the ages by Robert Bolton 23) Dajjal the Antichrist by Ahmed Thompson - 18:18 24) Truth and falsehood in post-modernism and the new age by Charles Upton - 18:53 25) Vectors of the counter initiation the course and destiny of inverted spirituality Charles Upton - 19:13 26) Cataclysm! compelling evidence of cosmic catastrophe in 9500 bc by D S Allen and J B Del-Air - 19:52 27) Atlantis and the cycles of times prophecies traditions and occult revelations by Jocelyn Godwin - 20:24 Books By Jeffrey Burton Russell 28) Mephistopheles the devil in the modern world \- 21:02 29) The Devil: Perceptions of Evil from Antiquity to Primitive Christianity - 21:25 30) Satan the early Christian tradition - 21:30 31) lucifer and the devil in the middle ages - 21:30 Books by Julius Evola 32) Revolt against the modern world - 21:57 33) Ride the tiger - 22:50 34) Bow and the club - 23:13 35) Path of Sinbar - 24:07 36) Men among the ruins 25:44 37) Arctos The Polar Myth by Jocelyn Godwin - 24:39 Books On Metaphysics by Edward Fazer 38) Scholastic metaphysics a contemporary introduction - 28:57 39) Aristotle's revenge the metaphysical foundations of physical and biological science - 29:31
Dr. Ahmad, I would have thought you’d mention Seyyed Hossein Nasr’s *A Young Muslim’s Guide to the Modern World* in this context. I’d be curious to know your thoughts on it if you’ve read it.
Like Sajid Shams, I’d also be curious to hear if you have thoughts on Wael Hallaq as well as Charles Taylor, Talal Asad or even Saba Mahmood who have all addressed the effects of secular modernity.
The competence and mastery are perceptible in your words, analysis, and mannerisms. Thank you for your efforts. I am in great anticipation of your return to posting videos.
'Ideas Have Consequences' by Richard Weaver would be a great addition to this list. It is an excellent critique of the modern world and focuses on the consequences of the shift from idealism to nominalism among the scholastics of the Middle Ages. Have you read it?
awesome video, I was thinking, could you make similar reading list video's on specific figures, like Nasir al-Din Tusi for example. would be a cool video series xD
Syed since this is reading list series. Can you enlighten us with the tips for better learning of languages such as Arabic and Persian. How should a person go about studying a language.
Thank you for such a wonderful video! I was wondering if you could perhaps do a video on Shia apologetics. I would like to know if there are any 'essential' works of Shia apologetics that a scholar would recommend a layman to read in order to better understand the reasoning for being Shia as opposed to Sunni. (Even more interesting would be if there are any works of Shia apologetics adressed to Christians or Jews or Hindus.)
Will you adopt me? I am the great grand something of Nikola Tesla. I say this purely because of all things I loved books best and my father was a serbian physicist with a black moustache. Theres too many coincidences! Also the CIA experiments on me with advanced neuro-tech. But seriously I have very good books you might be interested in.

"The less we read, the more harmful it is what we do read."
A statement that is atributed to Miguel de Unamuno.
عيد مبارك لكم سيدنا
I will share your channel

Thank you.
I would add Jerry Mander to the list. Specially "In Absence of the Sacred".
"No, he's not a nazi (...), he's actually a musicologist" is unintentional golden comedy.

That is an excellent suggestion. I will think about it.
Syed since this is reading list series. Can you enlighten us with the tips for better learning of languages such as Arabic and Persian. How should a person go about studying a language.
He’s already made reading lists for Arabic and Persian
@@JukesTheGreat i am talking about the method . Though he has already provided the book list.

Do you have a video where you discuss your trepidations in regards to Schuon?
No, I do not.
@@SaiyadNizamuddinAhmad Well, why do you think he is controversial?

How come Ivan Illich is missing from the list. I would rank him as the first to understand and decode modernity. So is Mahatma Gandhi
You are very confused.
