I lost 65 lbs on low carb with Splenda AND kept it off... since 2017. HBP gone. Type 2 gone. NASH gone. 3rd time losing the weight; first time it lasted more than a month. 🎉🎉Don't let the little stuff throw you off! Focus on your health, not the threat of "addiction" or a messed up gut biome. Fight for your health and focus on your goals.
I use artificial sweeteners and I plan on continuing to use them.
I was Keto then Carnivore. Lost over 150 lbs over last 4-years and still slowly losing. I drink Diet Soda daily. 😮
2-3 a weekday and a couple on weekends.. Sf torani in my coffee.. Is what it is
I use artificial sweeteners and I plan on continuing to use them.
Congrats on the weight loss.
Gotta find some happiness in life
I did a 40 day water fast at the beginning of the year, during which I had the epiphany (for me) that I was a carb addict. Since then I have had no desire (well almost none) for sugar and am immensely grateful for that. I don't want to risk a "relapse", so I avoid any kind of sweetener - why eat/drink something sweet when that would be the beginning of the road back to where I was? I drink only water (mostly carbonated) and black coffee. Along with a LCHF diet, this really seems to be working for me and I'm developing new habits that will hopefully last me the rest of my life.
No one does 40 days fast
WOW! You completed 40 days of eating no food? That's awesome! I've completed 7 days and felt amazing, I can't imagine how 40 days would feel. 👏
@@elliotbaltazar I can’t go three days without eating something on instinct. Like not thinking about it and dealing after wait I was fasting
Sweetness that I get "used to" - is the problem. I have removed all sugars and after a few months my taste buds find salt and cooking cacao sweet.
I have been strictly keto for 14 months. I have never fell off the wagon. The only two times I tried something different, I made keto ice-cream with double cream and eggs and the crust free carnivore cheesecake you can find the recipe on RUclips. If you insist, you will get over sugar cravings. If I did, everyone else will.
Xylitol is also sweet and cooling, I use for teeth care.
I started the Atkins diet in 2000. Lost my taste for sugar within a few months. Anything sweet or sugary still tastes unpleasant to me. Drives my friends and family crazy.
Just watched Chaffee argue why NO artificial sweeteners are ok for him and I had to agree that it made sense.😥💖
You can find someone speaking against just about anything.
The best option is give up. I did. I was 320 and in 2 years, i go to 180 and i stay to 180-183 for a year.
My dad was a lifelong Diet Coke drinker. Couldn't tell you how much, but if it wasnt diet coke, black coffee, or chocolate milk, he wasn't drinking it. In January he got diagnosed with bladder cancer. I haven't touched diet soda since. He's stage 1, on a low dose chemo protocol, and dabbling in low carb, but Im gonna push him to dig deeper.
Stay away from fake sugar.
I don't think there's _anything_ dishonest about cutting either monkfruit or stevia with erythritol. Both monkfruit and stevia are uber sweet while erythritol isn't nearly as sweet as sugar. So with an appropriate ratio, you can make a product that's exactly as sweet as the sugar it's replacing.
A very interesting broad discussion of sweeteners. But I haven't sweetened my tea or drank sweetened drinks, for many years. I also avoid cakes and cookies, of any kind. Maybe it's because I started drinking green tea ?
Did I miss the part in the video where you answer the implicit question from your thumbnail?

@@DamienKarras1 Thank you. Definitely had to be paying very close attention to decipher her stance on Diet Coke.
I’m having a hard time with the soda “zero” products (Dr Pepper Zero) - it’s like crack to me but the “diet” soda isn’t a problem - What’s the science there?
Yep- we have stevia and added xylitol to the mix - hard to tell the difference w the second substitute- it's sweet enough. I use honey too because it's supposed to help clean arteries!
On the journey weaning whole family off sugar. Stevia seems acceptable so far! Looking forward to trying out allulose.
Excellent
Started carnivore last Dec (some salads and vegetables occasionally) and have lost 40lbs, and still losing weight, all while drinking my Diet Coke everyday.. I’m not promoting DC, I know I should quit, for now it’s my vice and outlet for sweetness. I’m 65 and enjoying fitting in my clothes from 10 years ago..
what's your take on Xylitol?
Yep..... I have just passed the 3 week mark of no longer using artificial sweeteners. I found out about; Cephalic phase insulin release (CPIR). Where just tasting something sweet can, and will, cause the pancreas to release insulin regardless of whether you actually swallow the food OR if the source is one of these "replacement" sweeteners!!!!
This I think is one of the final pieces of my Metabolic puzzle.... which has me dealing with obesity, Fatty Liver Disease, and of course elevated insulin. See i traded out sugar for saccharin...27 years of saccharin. No wonder I have issues. And I had that "stuff" all day every day. But NOW I am somewhat free of it. And I say somewhat because there are times I crave it. However, I am still holding the line. Oh and as an aside I am sitting here with a bowl of sardines and melted butter. Life is definitely getting better. Thank you Dr. Boz!
I don't understand how that works. If you consume a non-sugar sweetener that causes an insulin response, but there's no glucose for the insulin to act on, won't your actual blood glucose drop precariously low?
@KenJackson_US That's a great point. I wish I knew the answer. I'm thinking a person in this state would have insulin resistance, so maybe that has something to do with it? All I know is my insulin was up from around 6 to 9.5? But that's a great question/statement Ken.
I believe it's the pancreas that releases insulin and not the liver. But I've often wondered if artificial sweetness caused an insulin release even though it doesn't raise blood sugars. 🤔
@josephbenge8707 Absolutely correct on the pancreas vs liver, thanks for catching that!
Clarification Aren't stevia, allulose, and monkfruit natural sweetners, not artificial? They are plant based, making them 'sugar alternatives/substitutes', but these would not be classified as 'artificial'. Please correct me if I am on the wrong track!
That's correct!
Depends. Often the chemical process they’re put through causes changes that makes the body think they’re artificial. I believe the pure monk fruit powder (not the one mixed with erythridol) is the most natural.
ALLULOSE also Works VERY WELL when making Home Made Ice Cream... 🙂👍 -70SomethingGuy
Yes! I agree
I’m just getting started is there. List of what videos to watch in a certain order ? Thank you
Hi Doc, For whats its worth. I agree about Stevia, Using " Stevia Liquid Drops Original Flavor". Started Keto Dec 19 @236lbs used the Stevia in coffee and tea, Now Down to 175 and still dropping. So the Stevia in my case works good. I also tested It to see if bread yeast would grow in it. No Growth with it. "Stevia in the Raw" grew bread yeast.
Great job Bob!!!! Keep it up

Can you talk about the various protein powders and the sugar and other ingredients that are in some protein powders and whether they are harmful or helpful?
The problem I have with allulose is that it tastes quite sweet on its own but when I put it in something to sweeten it I need quite a bit to even detect it.
Aspartame has a glycemic index of zero, it doesn’t have an effective on blood sugar and I find that many people who have lost tons of weight drank it their entire journey in the form of zero sugar sodas. Sometimes they need that to keep them on track especially in social situations.
🎯
I appreciate the education about artificial sugars but do not need them, thank goodness. 👏
Apparently all Zero Sugar/Diet drinks have Phenylketonurics in their components. Is that related to ketones? Thanks, Cid.
I ordered Akkermansia muciniphila from Pendulum Therapeutics today so I wanted to know your thoughts on it please and thank You! Been using allulose and Monk fruit for almost a year
More than one stevia drink gives me headaches.
I struggle with diet coke, and it absolutely triggers sugar cravings for the real stuff that can get me in trouble if not careful.
Hi Dr Boz, in your ice cream video you suggested to use allulose. I found this product is not available on the Dutch market. Or anywhere else in Europe as it seems. I wondered why and started searching. There is some research suggesting allulose might be carcenogenic. This seems also to be the reason why the European food & health autorities have still not given their approval. What is your opinion of the health risks based on the research you found? Would really appreciate your answer.
Xylitol is better than Erythritol! Monk fruit is not allowed in the EU (yet), and Allulose is not widely available and is VERY expensive!
I use a Xylitol tooth paste but it is an anti-bacterial, so I'm unsure if it is good to consume in foods.
It’s an option I would use, but I have pets in my home. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs and cats so I don’t bring it in the house. It seems too risky being a food item that one of them could accidentally ingest some. I think a lot of people don’t know this, though it’s obviously not a concern for pet-free households.
Hey Dr. Boz! Recent studies show xylitol taken between tooth brushing sessions can drastically reduce the bad, decay and gum disease causing bacteria. See the videos or books by Dr. Ellie Philips DDS for further info. Although ketovore for 8 yrs, Ive been using xylitol for 3 mo now. Wish me luck doc, and please research benefits of xylitol.
xylitol glycemic index is 7 so its not zero, but in limited amount it is a very good sugar replacement. I have been using it for 3 years now in my every day coffe one flat teespoon - no side effect at all and makes my days start with pleasure.
I employed Dr. Ellie’s method for a few months. My gums started bleeding again. I went back to conventional care. I think she’s full of it.
@@tommydinob That's too bad it didn't work for you. I now have 3 mo on her program, and it took only 5 days on her program to stop all my gum bleeding. It does say in her book that some cases take 4-6 months to fully work for a person. Quit early as you have chosen to do, and you'll never know what she's full of.
@@Robnord1 I appreciate your response. The problem is, I had a lot of problems in the past. It was under control for several years with conventional care….flossing, brushing, water pik, listerine. I switched to her method….after several months….inflammation, bleeding again. I believed her, I wanted it to work. For me, it was not effective. Actually turned out to be regressive. We’re all different. I still employ the fluoride rinse and xylitol.
@@tommydinob
Me too!
Does Xylitol make it onto the list ? I'm pre-diabetic & have been using it for just under a year now?
I have Virgils cola sweetened with stevia for those days I crave a Coke.
What's the verdict on Monk fruit sweetener?
Allulose is the bomb
5:26 Plus....what are these chemical sweeteners doing to the brain? I mean, if it is a rare "treat” that is one thing. But if a person has one everyday, it’s a problem because the chemical is accumulating in the body.
What's the verdict on sucralose (Splenda)?
Every one of those sweeteners affects my glucose level. Even just a little spikes my levels, as do natural sugars in most fruit.
You keep talking about glucose spike. The real issue is triggering insulin.
My doc told me Stevia is no longer safe. He says it's toxic and caused him harm. Supposedly, it used to be ok but now it is synthetic and produced in labs rather than more naturally. He is a concierge doctor.
I've tried stevia many times. I even grew it in my garden. I could never get over the intense sweetness followed by a very bitter aftertaste. Steeping natural stevia leaves in the water you make your tea or coffee in is good though. The processing of stevia into a powder must be where the bitterness comes from.
I do use monkfruit and monkfruit blends. They taste the best so far and cause no stomach upset. Erythritol is ok if it's in the mix but I try to not eat much of it as It has cause me some nausea in the past.
Allulose Oh Allulose why do you make me sick to my stomach and cause extra fast transit times if I eat too much in one or two days. Poo! What was interesting is Nick Norowitz video on allulose and how it activates the GLP-1 pathway similar to ozempic. Ozempic also causes nausea and diarrhea in many people who take it.
I read an article about “Reb D” and “Reb M” and other Rebs being the part of stevia that gives the bitter aftertaste. Which “Reb” depends on the plant variety, much like varieties of apples or tomatoes can be very different. I don’t recall which ones taste better but I have definitely noticed a difference among brands and this may be why.
I use only "Pure Sweet" brand of white stevia powder.
A single 1/2 heaping teaspoon to a gallon of black tea - use even less for coffee.
Eryth and allu are off my list because of how they react to solution (like water).
I'm addicted to Liquid Stevia. Dr Boz, do you think it spikes insulin at all?
Unfortunately, it does for me personally. I know it doesn’t for others. Allulose actually lowers my blood sugar. YIPPEE-SKIPPY!
I eat boiled sweet potatoes, organic corn on the cob, all kinds of nuts, use organic honey, dates (natural sugar in moderation) as my SUGARS.
Allulose has also been shown to help with NAFLD. What I am really interested in getting my hands on is Brazzein, it's a sweet protein, used in products like Oobli chocolates & teas.
Interesting! Though not even amazon has it.
What is nafld?

I'm one month into carnivore diet and have 1 sparkling ice drink a day. Slowly going to start weaning myself off though
Atta girl.
That can be tough - dilute with soda water … that’s the best strategy I’ve seen be successful
Is it safe to be on the keto diet during pregnancy?
I weaned my self off diet sodas. And found did not need as much sweet. Use to put creamer or flavored creamer ans sweetener in my coffee. now just flavored creamer.
When I bought my first box of stevia, I got home before I read the label. It was cut with *dextrose.* That's a sugar! What's the point of using stevia if you're going to be consuming sugar too. Wow.
What's wrong with xylitol which prevents cavities?
Properly stated, xylitol feeds good bacteria that does not lead to decay and unhealthy gums, and does not feed the bad bacteria which produce acid and lead to decay. I think Dr.Boz has some research to do.
The only thing wrong with it is it’s extremely poisonous to dogs, so I keep it well out of their reach.
@@Robnord1 Dr. Ellie Phillips , a dentist, says to chew a xylitol mint after each meal to stop cavities. They have known this in Scandinavia for 50 years.
@@Robnord1 more like Dr Karen.
@@markmuch1295 Yes, I have Dr.Ellie's book _Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye_ , and have been having a little xylitol after any food or drink as she recommends for over 2 months now. I think many US dentists know about it too, but promoting xylitol use would be bad for repeat business.
Monkfruit causes major gassy problems in me....I use with caution
What about XYLITOL?
Love diet soda but for some reason, it opens up my appetite. Whenever I drink it I get voraciously hungry 😢
Thumbnail question?
I have a strong addiction to sugar and fight it daily. I drink an electrolyte with sucralose as my only sweetener.
I noticed you skipped Saccharin. I’d urge you to reconsider saccharin. Saccharin has gained a bad rap over the years because of bad studies produced by rival sweetener producers claiming problematic things which are overly exaggerated. Saccharin does have an aftertaste, but when cut with Stevia, it mixes to produce a very satisfying sweet that rivals sugar in flavor without an aftertaste, but not the volume or browning needed for baking. Still, saccharin is very useful for popping the sweetness without adding sugar.
I am in the process of kicking my saccharin habit to the curb. It did work VERY well for me to get off of sugar. However, it turns out I'm addicted to the whole sweetness thing. It's been almost 3 weeks, and I am still missing my saccharin....
I've been using saccharine for over 30 years. I've tried the others... monkfruit was a close second but too expensive. I'll stick with saccharine.
I tried raw stevia straight from the plant, I felt high for a few hours after.
The only sweetener I use is organic Monk fruit extract in my coffee drinks. An 8 ounce bottle that costs $28 will sweeten 3 coffees a day and lasts about 4-5 months.
Where to order this???
@@BrendaKing-zs9tb Hi Brenda: I get mine from Amazon. It is “NOW Foods” brand, and it is called “Certified Organic Monk Fruit Liquid”. Hope this helps.
Thanks Dr Boz.
So, 100% pure organic Monk Fruit sugar has no health related side effects (so far).
And every time I add a tiny little bit of monk fruit (1/32 teaspoon for my bullet espresso), I do not think about the sweetness (after I got the quantity right), I tend to further reduce the quantity each time, simply it’s very expensive!
This is kinda good for me 😂
The choice between toxic sugar/sweeteners & monk fruit sugar -> no sugar/sweeteners at all (the best choice)
I need to update myself regarding a spokeswoman considered a sweeteners as “novel food” sweeteners which were banned in other countries as I checked several months ago.
Would be nice if someone can access to those research paper & summarise it in an easy to understand vid.
I use glycine for my coffee. I think it is the best.
I stopped using sugar in my tea. Someone suggested I put sugar in my tea. I nearly threw that cup out!
Why do I get leg muscle pain and cramps when I drink diet sodas?
Are you getting enough salt? I wake up with leg cramps if I didn't get enough salt.
Sweeteners are not needed period for many reasons. Let me count the ways.
1:30, I've tried Stevia Dr. Boz and found that it doesn't do ANYTHING, period, full stop. Maby if you put a pound of it in one glass of ice tea it would work, I don't know. 🤪
I guzzle coke zero, in deep ketosis, it's awesome.
I have no problems with Erythritol. However, Allulose kills my gut! And I mean horrible gas! And I don’t get gas.
I use Erythritol in my keto recipes and I’m fine. Most companies use Allulose for keto treats. So I have to make my own.
Also Erythritol does lower my blood sugar. I guess I’m backwards
I can’t stand Diet sodas! The taste is so bad it spoils the entire idea for me. I am the level now where I might drink a regular soda once every 6 months.

COKE Zero!
No to Erythritol. Studies it affects the heart.
Is there more than one such study? The one I'm aware of neglected to even ask the cohort if they were consuming any erythritol. I didn't previously know, but our livers actually manufacture erythritol, and that may have been what the study was studying. Didn't say.
Can we just use imagination of people stuffing food into their mouths!
What about just moderation? How about that couple with more green vegetables and less processed garbage and meats?
