You did a great job on those boots, very impressive - and I could just smell the leather as you worked. Thanks for a great video.

Getting redress for a botch job like that can be pretty much impossible. I had a friend take a pair of Frye boots to a shop to have a few of the eyelets replaced with speed laces. The guy tried to “polish” the boots and completely destroyed the finish. Since he could hold the boots hostage until she paid, she didn’t have a choice but to pay him for the ruined boots.
There’s so much here, as a GYW shoe enthusiast I can appreciate this process all the more. It’s entertaining but also really educational. Great job finishing the uppers also, that is a part that cobblers usually seem to skimp on. The extra level of finishing you guys put into this pair was impressive.

To take those ragged, abused chukka boots and restore them to that level of beauty is a perfect response to the 'throw away society', and the diminishing number of craftsmen.
Oh, you'd be surprised how many are still left! Many people, even in this modern day appreciate bespoke shoes. I have a few pairs myself, and frankly, the prices for cobbled shoes over 15-20 years, even including the resoles and such, is comparative in price to getting new shoes every year or two anyway. Now, this does mean you need to maintain your shoes more, like dry and clean (as needed), wax after some use, YMMV, and get the shoes to a cobbler if parts come loose, or you damage your shoes. And well, parts will wear out, like heels or soles. You can replace only the heel, or even just the wear layer of the heel, which is much cheaper. The LARGEST benefit by far, is that the part of the shoes that feels nice and worn in (uppers) need never be replaced, and even a newly soled shoe will fit on your foot like a cozy dream. It's truly a wonder to wear cobbled shoes, and I can recommend trying to buy a pair. Doesn't have to be insane in cost either, you can get good cobbled shoes (not bespoke, though, but still hand made) down to $300-400 dollars, or maybe even less, but I'd watch out for those dipping lower than that.
If my local cobbler was this handsome and charming I would definitely develop some kind of relationship. I’d scour thrift shops for old Florsheims on the daily.
There are a few cobblers in my city and just about all are old European men. One by one they're dying or retiring. When the one I was going to closed shop I was disappointed cause he did an amazing job. Now that I'm writing this, I wonder what happened to his tools 🤔

Rebuilt boots are like getting a brand new pair, only they fit even better and are broken in. A trade I have always had serious respect for and appreciation of!
Don’t know why I love to watch you repair shoes that normally end up in the trash, but I do. Thanks for bringing the skills you have to the camera for other generations to learn and enjoy.

This sequence starting at 8:24 and running for at least 45 seconds - I had to pause to write this comment - was beautiful. Love seeing human craftsmanship, and the audio was great.
May I ask where you two learned your craft? You are both excellent and so very knowledgeable about the different brands and restoration techniques that need be applied. Well done, both of you.
The owner excited of comfortable wearing these shoes and satisfied by knowing how much painstaking work you did, as always great job, you are talented guys to make people life happier.. God blessings
05:26 Well thank you verry much for clarifying the plastic issue I had tiny bits bits of plastic coming from the side , both with my crockett and jones chepstow and alfred sargent .
These kinds of videos are truly fascinating to watch. I highly doubt I will ever do anything more complicated to a shoe than a perfunctory polish, yet seeing a skilled craftsman working at any craft and explaining it at the same time is mesmerising. It truly makes me appreciate how much knowledge and skill goes into something like this. One thing, however, that I would love to see you talk about are the tools and machines you use. I tried searching your videos for anything on the topic, but I came up blank. Some of the tools I see you use, I never even knew existed, yet they themselves look beautifully crafted for their purpose. Where do you even get tools and machines like that today? Are there niche suppliers specialising in cobbler's tools? A workshop tour or a series on the tools of the trade would be fascinating. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would think so.
I need to comment again since I’ve watched it several times and learned more each time. I’m working hard to learn the craft, and this piece excites me every time. Thanks so much for making such fine and helpful videos.
Just found your site a couple weeks ago and Love it!! Spent 5 years in late 80's, early 90's working in the fashion industry and was fortunate to work with some Amazing designers, and wear some Great clothes...yet, have Always been fascinated with well made footwear!!. And i still have my Dad's Chestnut Florsheim Imperial Wingtips from the late 60's = ) *In life it's the little things....So, Thanks again. G~
Thanks for the video! I'm currently stuck at home because of my city's 'shelter in place ' order due to CoVid-19. I've always appreciated a good cobbler. I love how Americans pronounce different counties in the UK, it makes me smile every time. The restoration you carry out is like an Art form, top job. 👍👍
English chemist Sir Humphry Davy named the element alumium in 1808 and then changed it to aluminum in 1812. British editors changed it to aluminium to be more in keeping with other elements such as potassium and sodium, while the Americans retained the spelling as aluminum. So as long as those US folks spell it without the second i, they are pronouncing it correctly. Unfortunately, in my experience, they spell it the British way, but pronounce it the US way. Tut tut tut lol
Have seen many of your videos, and this is first where I saw a welt replacement. I can see why, especially if the welt is in decent shape, you don’t replace them...it appears to be a painstaking, lengthy, and concentrated process - and that was after your editing! Much respect from a layman!!
My Great Uncle was an Italian cobbler in NJ. I remember visiting his shop when I was a child. This was fascinating. You are an amazing craftsman. Thanks for the memories!
Damn you guys. You’ve turned me into a shoe snob. I’ve binged watched your videos and learned so much. I’m donating most of my current shoes and then buying four great pairs. Thank you for the education👍🏾👍🏾
Exactly... In the last year after watching all these videos, I've swapped out like 12 pair of crap and crap-ish shoes for 8 shoes and boots from Tricker's, Carmina, Shoe Passion, Cobbler Union and Cheaney & Sons... my wallet is crying, but my feet love me (after the appropriate break in)...
I dont even use dress shoes anymore but since i was a kid loved to see a cobbler work on shoes. And i have seen tons of your videos and this is one of the most amazing work that i have seen do. Looks amazing! You guys are great!
there is a spray bottle that fills with pressure and applies an even amount of dye. I use it for my holsters all the time. works amazingly! I am sure likely already have tried it before but just wanted to say it. You squeeze the pump trigger, it builds up air pressure and then starts spraying an even coat.

@@arthurkurtz2448 That's hilarious!
Just find watching you so relaxing and interesting im 70 now and after 50 years working at Jaguar Cars I wish I had been a Cobbler
The owner excited of comfortable wearing these shoes and satisfied by knowing how much painstaking work you did, as always great job, you are talented guys to make people life happier..
God blessings
They darkened the sole edges aswell nice 👍🏼
Thanks! We appreciate you watching.
wonderous work I wanna see the owners reaction when presented with the repair.
anthony morales Unfortunately, they already picked them up. The wife loved them and said she was excited to give them back to her husband.
@@TrentonHeath in addition he can replay this video over and over. fantastic work.
The condition of those boots at the beginning was straight up criminal
But talk about learning what a skilled cobbler can do if the bones of the shoe are right... amazing!
that stitching job was terrible whoever did it the last time
05:26
Well thank you verry much for clarifying the plastic issue
I had tiny bits bits of plastic coming from the side , both with my crockett and jones chepstow and alfred sargent .
Good idea for a video.
What ever you are charging isn't enough. Great work!
Scott Dreyfus HEAR HEAR!!
I would have given those shoes up for scrap and you managed to make them look brand new. That's craftsmanship!
I want to see the reactions on your customers faces when they get their shoes back
alex sao YES - I agree; it’s TIME we see the customer react the way we do !!!
He may stroke out, seeing as those boots didn’t looked that good brand new
I am a lover of real products and real craftsmanship. You fellows do excellent work, and your videos are a delight. Thanks.
I need to comment again since I’ve watched it several times and learned more each time. I’m working hard to learn the craft, and this piece excites me every time. Thanks so much for making such fine and helpful videos.
Absolutely stunning restoration & repair by y'all 💜
Thank you!
@4:53 Heath: Removes old sole.
Me: They look better already. Sign of relief.
😆😂🤣
Just found your site a couple weeks ago and Love it!! Spent 5 years in late 80's, early 90's working in the fashion industry and was fortunate to work with some Amazing designers, and wear some Great clothes...yet, have Always been fascinated with well made footwear!!. I picked up a pair of Allen Edmonds in Atlanta one day at a GoodWill store made of 'Elephant hide'....i'm Sure PETA would love that, haha...They are Righteous!! And i still have my Dad's Chestnut Florsheim Imperial Wingtips from the late 60's = ) *In life it's the little things....So, Thanks again. G~
godoggo thank you
Thanks for the video! I'm currently stuck at home because of my city's 'shelter in place ' order due to CoVid-19. I've always appreciated a good cobbler. Now, after watching this video, I have gained even more appreciation for the quality work that you professionals do! Wasn't bored one bit! Great work sirs!
Iv had a really bad day today and I know this sounds ridiculous but your videos are really soothing me something about your guys southern accents and the true mastery of your craft just made me feel better thanks guys keep up the great work
Wow, MasterCraftsman! Amazing job guys!
Ag&Au Hoarder thank you
I love how Americans pronounce different counties in the UK, it makes me smile every time. The restoration you carry out is like an Art form, top job. 👍👍
Kinda bothers me the way they say shire, this isnt lord of the rings lol.
Who says Devonshire??? Even though that’s correct 🤣
@TheVet4id We pronounce it how it is spelt, phonetically. Lol
@@joannearmstrong1625 Thanks for that, it's quite interesting how the spelling of words and their prenounceation evolve. 👍
amazing restoration of that pair of chukka's! as new!
Harold thank you
Thank you very much!
This is incredible work guys. Expect a few pairs of mine coming your way in the near future.
Benjamin Weiss thank you very much
Thank you! Sounds good!
27:50 When I’m at the end of a long project, tired, just want to be done and end up breaking something or cutting myself.
In high school i used to do my homework 5 mins before class and still paid more attention to detail than the previous cobbler
Wali B 😂
This boy knows what he's doin' 👍👍
Mc Tend thank you very much!
Any other cobbler: You can't fix that!
You: Observe
Wow.
I watched the entire post. If I hadn't but just saw the before and after...I would have never believed they were the same boot.
Incredible work gents!
Watching you repair those old boots is so satisfying and they don't even belong to me! :-)
Awesome job, a true artisan at work.
You are not only restorers but you are fixers too! Superhero cobblers...
SCD Observer thank you
Haha...thank you sir!
I'd love to see a reaction video with a customer. Was the bad resole done locally? I live in M'boro.
StGermain Hi! You’re right down the street. 👍🏻 We didn’t ask. My guess is yes.
Awesome Job. Honest question: what's the difference between the cost of a new pair of shoes and the cost of your perfect job (and time)?
If I had to guess 1/4 of the price? I guess it depends on how much you like them lol
Not sure why RUclips showed me this channel but I watched a couple of videos and was waiting to see a full restoration of a shoe and man , I love the way these shows came out.. they look amazing.
Really impressive restoration ,beautiful craftmanship , great video
Trying to have a relationship with my cobbler and take him out to coffee but he keeps saying no homo.. what are my other options?
Did you explain how much you really like leather?
@@spaceracer23 Ha ha.
@@spaceracer23 😂😂
As we say in Spain: "Zapatero en su banquilla, Rey de Castilla".
beautiful job...I was curious, how much did it cost for a refurbish like you did
Brian Banks I would guess around 400 dollars.
Around $300 for this one but it needed A LOT done to it.
@@TrentonHeath great job
@@TrentonHeath follow up, what was the original price of shoes like these? would it be better to just buy new good quality shoes, or is it the sentimental value
@@jundi80 This kinda looks like them www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens/boots/brecon-darkbrown-country-calf/
It's almost midnight and I'm watching someone repair shoes! Why??? Perhaps because it's oddly fascinating to watch a true master craftsman at his work. Marvelous, well done!
Old Cuxie Thank you very much! We really appreciate you watching.
Superbe transformation pour cette paire de souliers qui sont de toute beauté. Merci pour ce partage de connaissance . 😉👍
