Green Earings,....... That Groove....!,.......The guitar duel, The vocals with a smile...., The drum duel....the FUN all the musicians are crearly having playing this monster of a song....!....Thank you so much !...makes my day !!!!
holy crap. unbelievable that I can watch something this good on my computer hooked up to my TV in my bedroom. I tuned in for Jon Herington but got surprised by such a large number of talented performances... particularly the other guitarist, Tim Palmieri.
How can you even touch the drums with Bernard Purdie up there? I would feel so strange playing Purdie's groove along with the man himself. The Purdie Shuffle changed my life!
@@discodrum Maybe the other guy offered to sit out, and Purdie said something like "Naw, it's been so long since I played that I forget the accents and punches." But I'll say one thing: You hear them trading breaks at the end, and the other guy's good, no question, he knows his stuff behind the kit and gets around just as fast - but Purdie is PERFECT. Every beat is crisp and exact. He plays like a drum machine, but swings like no machine ever did; and you can hear why he's a legend.
Right?…the drummer is obviously good ,just playing soooo many fills that were never there on the OG cuts,u can hear Purdie’s approach is much more groove oriented which is probably why he actually played with SD among many many others
Huge thanks to all involved here, but especially to Christine and Nicole. What often separates Steely Dan from the pack is the quality of the female backing vocals on their recordings.
I have to agree. One of my other bands has two lovely ladies (one of them is the bassist) and I've come to love and appreciate their gorgeous harmonies. They're attractive, classy and perform rather well.
The song starts with 3 phrases on the rhodes through a flanger, the repetitive stabs mimic a news program intro to get you prepared for an important message. Then it's pure funk heaven from then on.
It's very elusive, that Steely Dan feel and blend of all the instruments. After watching a dozen cover bands on RUclips, I found these folks really have it. Give everyone on stage "...the Steely Dan T-shirts." Movies have second unit directors... this is Steely Dan's Second Unit!
EGG-solent.... Seriously, off the charts. Good Dan involves the brilliant original brainwork + amazing soloing. This performance honors its creators as well as bringing out the personalities of the amazing onstage talent. Both guitarists are world-class, but Herington definitely shows why he now is THE guitarist for the touring SD band (RIP WB).
Very talented group of musicians. You were all spot on with the lyrics, chords and harmonies which is very difficult to do since Steely Dan is a very difficult band to cover due to the complexity of their lyrics, chords, harmonies and rhythms. Loved the dual drummers as well. Always worked well with the Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead! Bravo to you all.
The interplay between Jon and Tim is insane. Tim picks it up with a fast riff, and Herington laughs...not because he thinks Tim is trying to outplay him, but because he KNOWS where Tim is going from there. Brilliance
I like this one the best of all Steely Dan covers I have seen, and it's been a few. A great combo of enthusiasm, solid playing and solos going just about as far away from the original as they should.
Eh. Wow.Soooo good.Man those drummers.Changing my dream band plans now .Gotta get two drummers.Preferably those two dudes.I nominate the sound engineer for a Grammy.
I always thought at least two drummers were needed...duh. I don't think it's fair to specify they have to be men. That's silly. In my case, I can follow any phenomenal drummer. That's what I was trained on: guys that play exactly like Max Roach...I'm saying to myself, I'm pretty sure the downbeat'll be along shortly...:) like letting dogs loose at the beach if you just let drummers go all crazy like that... I've never played with a female drummer yet, but I am smart enough to play with my million - times betters. They like me, so I must be interesting to play with. Check out my channel. I'll have some video of it soon...
all excellent musicians up there.......Jon Herington is so incredibly fluid and inventive and melodic and.....I runout of superlatives long before either of these guitar players run out of licks. My goodness..............
Hands down the best version..This whole concert was Killer..... Purdie eyes @13:50...He knows that was his lick.......they were having serious fun.......
This is outstanding!!.... The enegry and groove, and everything.....By far the absolute best Steely Dan cover.....Walter was a humble guy. Sure he would admit this was better then them live.....Love to see them do Miles Davis......Badarse unit...
roblox maniac danceand shake, Have you seen Steely Dan play Green Earrings live? I have, several times, and it’s far tighter, more precise, and better rehearsed than this. I dig these guys too-this is a really fun, high-quality cover. And while I’m sure Walter would enjoy it, I seriously doubt he’d think it was better than his own band: the One True Dan.
@@TheCapedWanderer I'm late but yeah. Let's not get crazy here. Steely Dan were and remain a VERRRRRY tight unit. This is really good but it definitely isn't that. The vocals in particular are not there. Still, this sounds amazing and I'm glad I ran into it. Excellent stuff.
Woo hoo. What a great treat this was. Found the video randomly, after watching a Donald Fagen interview. I am an amateur drummer and Purdie was a huge influence when I was younger. The double drumming is impeccable here. And Tim Palmieri is a BEAST. I LOVED the early Mike Stern lick he used in 11:08 while trading solos with Jon Herrington in Green Earrings.
+Daniel Vesely You're getting your wish. Tour dates announced - Jan 21 at the Mint in L.A. and Jan 23 at Winston's in San Diego (Ocean Beach) - we're going to the latter.
This is, musically, probably the best rendition of this song I've heard yet.
Green Earings,....... That Groove....!,.......The guitar duel, The vocals with a smile...., The drum duel....the FUN all the musicians are crearly having playing this monster of a song....!....Thank you so much !...makes my day !!!!
The world needs more amazing "steely bands" like these
There's a good one here in Dallas called Naked Lunch.

dope
Yea, he's bad ass. Look for more work with Kung Fu and his side project Z3 that does Zappa covers.
Tim is Amazing!! The Z3 is great too.
Well said! I too was pleasantly surprised....
How can you even touch the drums with Bernard Purdie up there? I would feel so strange playing Purdie's groove along with the man himself. The Purdie Shuffle changed my life!
My thoughts 100%. He's a god.
Total disrespect. Drummer should have sat out till Purdie was done..

Tim Palmieri! Wow!
You guys have a terrifingly good in house electric guitar man
Unbelievably **** horribly **** fabulously stAnky groove with Bernard and John Herrington and these guys really great
Huge thanks to all involved here, but especially to Christine and Nicole. What often separates Steely Dan from the pack is the quality of the female backing vocals on their recordings.
They are hypnotic singers and dancers ,too.
Patty Austin on Gaucho chorus makes the neck hairs stand up.

Thank the algorhythmic gods for sending this my way. Love it.
I loooove the guitar playing here but the masterful drumming is also a treat.
I think it’s fair to say that Herrington appreciates Tim’s playing. I’ve never seen him smile so much
Just heard about Walter and this was the first thing I wanted to see. RIP Walter and thanks for all the incredible music!
Yup. RIP, Walter. One of the truly GREAT ones
Purdie on drums... brilliant guy... 😍😍😍😍

15 minutes of quality.
Two words...fucking amazing.
Very nice, a lot of balls covering 2 Steely Dan Classics. Great musicians, the double drums, and the guitar riffs!…🔥🔥🔥
The interplay between Jon and Tim is insane. Tim picks it up with a fast riff, and Herington laughs...not because he thinks Tim is trying to outplay him, but because he KNOWS where Tim is going from there. Brilliance
Both guitarists have great timing.
Thank You, Thank You 🙏🏻 Thank You. Hail Steely Dan. Superb!!! Fabuloso!!! ⚡️⚡️🎸🎸⚡️⚡️🎸⚡️🥁⚡️🎹⚡️🎷⚡️🎺⚡️♥️🐝
Shiiiiieeeet. man how cool to play w Bernard!!!! thanks for the recording.

Holy Cow!! This whole ensemble needs to tour.
What a band...............WOW !!!!!
Great jam! Watching the guitarists and drummers trading licks towards the end was especially memorable.

Jon Herington is an AMAZING GUITAR PLAYER!!!
Loving the use of the horns (originally synths) and two drummers on this version.
This is another video I keep coming back to.
As DF might say, these cats really rock!😮
Mr. Fagan...your band is ready. WOW! Just WOW!!! 😎🤘🏼AAAAAAAA++++++
Great cover to an Amazing Classic

Amazing
Jon watching the guitarist at 9:00 and the smile and head shake at 9:25. That solo was sick
It is more than fantastic. This takes more than you ever will understand, even as a musician. Thank you!
Wow!! Shows the quality of the songs and players. Thx for posting.
the fez was good...guitar work in green earrings was badass.
Most wonderful version I have heard ,so far !!!! ❤️❤️❤️👍
Found this randomly and it has been my head song for days, fkn amazing, and I bought pretzel logic lp new in the seventies
Tims solos amazing!!
yes, he´s the man...

that moment when bernard gets wide eyed n stops playing while the other drummer nails the hihat 6 times in a row.........awesome
F&cking hot. Great to see the Hit Maker himself back there. The other drummer overplayed slightly IMO, but man what a set.
I’d overplay too if I was on a kit next to one of my icons
Man that is good stuff right there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
