This is how all old heavy equipment videos should be done. I liked the behind the operator shots and the operating machinery, nice work.

Thanks for compliment. Enjoyed making the videos and plan to make more in the springtime with both the 22B and the 10B dragline.

A 22-B was the first crane I tried to run, charging an asphalt plant overseas in the Army. It had a cummins but the shop guys tried to reline the swings and got the spiders in backwards so it wouldn't swing for beans. Finally ended up with an American truck crane with a gas flathead ford power plant that never missed a lick. Poured hot asphalt on the gears when they'd start ringing. We were running so fast we had to tighten the tagline up twice to keep the clam bucket from spinning around. Ran a 4 part closing line on the clam to slow it down so we could get a full bucket and not yank it out of the ground with a 2 part. Made several dollars doing drag bucket work after that. Learn something every day. GOOD VIDEO!! (me)

I have been lucky in that the only parts that have needed repairing were able to be welded. This machine was orginally restored using 2 machines to make 1, and when I bought it, it came with tons of spare parts. I know there are salvage yards that do specialize in old excavator parts.

22b is the only crane you can spot without seeing it, The magic swing clutches will give their squeak every time, not a thing you can do to stop it either.

Haha, that's what happened to me. Saw a couple video's, next thing I knew and there were 3 machines in the yard.

How does the horizontal line to the bucket pay out or take up on the boom pulley reel if it is all mechanically driven?

The tagline is spring loaded (wound). If you disconnect it from the bucket, it will wind itself up. It keeps constant tension on the bucket so it doesn't swing out of control, or spin (fouling the cables).

You know I actually own one of these cranes.
It's a Tonka truck. But that's still pretty close though!
