- Since the dawn of sailing, and across all ages, the image of sailors has been wrapped in an aura of romance and adventure. They stand as daredevils, sailing the high seas and facing their destiny. But submariners are another story: heroes of the mysterious and silent world of the depths. However, it doesn't matter whether a sailor performs their duty on the surface or underwater, they always stay true to the traditions of their service. Give them a reason-and they'll invent new ones.

@@plonker2819 Not really, there is always stuff going on. We have people on board to take of the sick peeps.
My Dad was a Submariner for almost 20 years. Always said he enjoyed it, but I don’t know how he handled being in such small and cramped conditions. Sonar tech 💪🏻

@@MrKiwi1960 it makes me wonder why nasa has such a hard time finding people to stay in the ISS for a year at a time, its basically like a submarine. cramped and isolated. only difference is that you'll feel like jello when you come back to earth.

@@chloekaftan Because unlike submirine,they need someone with good physical strength and a master degree in stem field.The requirements are high enough that these two requirements rarely appear in the same time.

One of my best memories was the King of the Dome challenge during a swim call. Shipmates pummeled each other as each one tried to knock the next guy off and diving off the fairwater planes was a great experience. The U.S. Silent Service Dolphins are not porpoise, but the actual fish (also called the Mahi Mahi).
Unlocked Jingles, put him in a heavy cruiser, then to have him say "submarine spotted" I admit I was panic zig-zaging for about 10 seconds, before I realize the joke, and hoped no one saw me.
Panic Zig-zagging? I think you'll find the correct term is "not wanted to be molested by torpaedophiles"

were you there for its incident? I had an instructor in sub school who claimed he was but those guys would tell any old sea story to look cool for the nubs.

I live about a 10 minute drive from sub base New London (Groton) and could see the electric boat primary erecting hall from my high school. Most of my friends and their family are in the sub Corp and they’re all strange people, but so am I, so we get along

Do it. It’s the best duty in the military and you won’t regret it. From a Boomer sailor on the Alexander Hamilton 1972-1976. I am a Boomer times two, my age and because I was on a FBM (Fleet Ballistic Missile) submarine.
Do it. It's hard, it sucks, but the comradery on subs is much better than almost any other place in the military and, if you decide you don't like it after you first tour, then it looks much better on a resume. MT2/ss on the USS Pennsylvania 2010-2016
Try to get on a SSBN Ballistic Missile sub as it's a lot bigger and roomier than a cramped fast attack boat. And they have two crews Blue and Gold so you stay on shore half of the time.

One tradition that needs to be brought to the game is circling Mk. 14s and dud torpedoes. Oh and they didn't cruise around underwater at speeds that would make an Alfa jealous.

I was a torpedoman on a US sub in the late 70's to mid 80's I have my Dolphins, my FBM patrol pin and my Rank insignia still to this day.

You dont earn your "Fish" you earn your "Dolphins!" Hence the Dolphins on the submariner badge.
A little bit of Searching suggests "fish" is an alternative term with some degree of acceptability; if I had to guess, while the US and Commonwealth navies use dolphins as their insignia, other countries use other sea species, so "fish" is a catchall term.
Look at the submarine warfare pin, dolphins don't have scales. They are dolphin fish. Both terms are appropriate.

We do call them fish. Ours are based on the dolphin fish, or Mahi-mahi.

lol oh boi. submarines. last night i went on a CV expedition with my Bismarck and Massachusetts. the rage was unreal. can’t imagine how the cancer of the sky will react to subs added to the powder keg lmao
The game badly needs submarines for variety. They were tested long ago, were apparently quite fun, gave destroyers more purpose and it makes me wonder why they're taking so long.
Reason its taking them so long is that they have to redesign ALL the maps (most maps were only 10-15 meters deep to save on processing power)

Humm, sliders...usually on field day. I preferred Batfish burgers to sliders. Oh, don't forget surf and turf...
The best few hours sleep you will ever have is in a diesel submarine with CO2 levels so high they border asphyxiation! When your crewmate has to wake you, it feels like returning from the dead! Also the Dutch navy has fish, called "flippers". Diesel boats forever!!!

The Royal Naval Submariners badge are called Dolphins (and Dolphins are mammals not fish😁!)

Can't comment on US boats but in Canada and Australia we call the badge Dolphins, not fish. I was also told that the observer with the rifle wasn't for shooting the shark but for shooting the member of the crew who was going to be eaten alive... SwimEx's were both surface and subsurface activities.
