Why Cambridge University Rejected Me - Why You Should Still Apply

- This is my story of why Cambridge University rejected me, and what I learned from it, and why everyone should apply to oxbridge.
Tip: If you apply within the Oxbridge deadline (October 15th) other universities will think you are an oxbridge applicant, so will want you.
Don't give up hope if you get rejected from oxbridge, it's not the end of the world! You can always reapply! That would mean you can take a gap year to do whatever you want, and then go to either Oxford or Cambridge the year after!
Stay positve, I believe in you!

Thank you
Defo recommend reapplying if you get the grades!! Same as you, i applied for oxford at the beginning of yr 13 even tho i knew i had slim chances. I applied for oxford over cambridge as oxford wanted A*AA where as cambridge wanted A*A*A which i thought was waaaay out of my league. Was rejected by oxford pre interview and was heartbroken. Results day came around and low and behold i got the grades for cambridge😮😮 against everyones advice i decided to cancel all other offers and take a year out, applying to cambridge. By some miracle i will be starting a medicine degree at cambridge next month!! If ur hearts set on it then dont give up!! X
Wow, firstly congratulations for being persistent and working on your goals and getting amazing grades! It just shows that you should never give up. Hopefully the same thing can happen to me🤞🏻I just need to wait for results day!
I hope Cambridge goes well for you, I’m sure you will love it!
Thanks for the support
Madeline wait so you can apply to oxford/ Cambridge one year and if you get rejected you can apply to the other? Didn’t Cambridge say anything about you applying to oxford a year earlier? x
I wish I reapplied I missed the deadline out of anxiety not I don't like myself
Did your gcse play a part in your accepted offer??
Who's here after he got an offer from Cambridge for his post-graduate degree? Watching this back honestly makes me feel so proud.
Ahh I really appreciate that. It’s been a long journey indeed
I got rejected from Cambridge (was a long time ago). But the thing is, it is a big achievement for anyone to even apply, then to get an interview. All good experience no matter what the outcome. Good luck to everyone, things will work out and wherever you go in life, it will be for the best.
I’d definitely agree!! And rejection is redirection. Applying is a great experience:)
I just got rejected from Cambridge last month. I had a predicted grade of 3A*1A and applied for PBS at Selwyn College. In my email, they stated the main reason for my rejection was that my overall academic achievement wasn’t on par with the rest of their successful candidates (probably because of the 1 B in AS Maths :( ) Though I did lose one of my UCAS choices, I don’t really regret applying because at least I know I’ve shoot my shot and I would be able to sleep soundly at night hahaha also who knows maybe I’m really not suited for Cambridge’s insanely short terms. I’m looking at Durham as a possible choice rn and I’m so glad to have stumbled upon your channel!
got an interview for PBS at Newnham next week and I'm watching so many of these videos because I know I've messed it up already lol
:) Hey, you've got this! You can do it!
Just be yourself and I'm sure you'll be fine :) I believe in you, and also you've got an interview so that's something! Good luck :)
cutfrommarble lmao I just finished my interview today and I’m pretty sure I can kiss my Cambridge dreams goodbye. It was sooo bad, I literally sat there clueless half the time. Don’t mean to scare you though, good luck for your interview! Lol
tiffany shdjfkfkfjgjg such a MOOD my answers were so prompted, I kept stuttering bc they were so nervous, forgetting things + making awkward silence!! Honestly I'm considering withdrawing the application on UCAS so my school don't know I got rejected lol
I was*
Just got my rejection today for economics, was not optimistic to begin with.
I had A* and 2As for my predicted grades because the new A level don’t do modular As anymore. Entry requirements was A*AA, felt I had a slight chance was the glimmer of hope was what got me going.
At least I know someone else felt the same way and can relate to, I didn’t want to believe the email too when I received it, guess just the way it is.
Sorry to hear that, but don't worry at least you've applied and given it a shot! ..and if you get the grades next year you could always reapply for Oxbridge! It is really deflating to recieve the email though but you just need to carry on working hard and try and prove them wrong :)
yh i just got an interview. My gcses are sub par. What are your gcse grades like?
Khalid Said what are GCSE grades like?
Thanks for sharing :) you are such a nice person , all the best in your studies !
Aw thank you very much :)
I just sent of my Cambridge application for Japanese studies - I feel so unprepared for it. The application process is so stressful 😂
Ahh good luck. I know it's stressful but it's also exciting nonetheless
This is so exciting! I too want to study Japanese Studies at Cambridge (I will be applying next year as I’m currently in year 12), if you have any advice please let me know!
@@amycrouch4675Not sure I’m the best person to get advise from - I didn’t get an offer 😂 But I’d say just make sure you have lots of Japanese related things to put in your personal statement. I decided to apply for Japanese in September (super last minute) and had to power through some Japanese literature.
I got offers from Nottingham and Durham then decided to choose Durham as my First choice .... unfortunately, i just cant further my study there and fly to the UK since I was rejected by scholarship provider...so currently studying in my own country ,but i'd make it to further my master or phd in Oxbridge ...hopefully
Firstly, congrats on the offers, just a shame you didn’t get a scholarship! But definitely apply for a masters or PHD in oxbridge, go for it. Good luck :)
lol I got rejected this year and ended up with 4 A*s at A level. I was put in the pool then not 'fished' out. Oh well- Going to Durham for politics instead and I think I'll like the vibe more anyway.
I’m sure you’ll love Durham!! It’s a brilliant place :)
Rejected by Cambridge too. It hurts especially when you are so confident.. in which uni did you end up eventually?
It does hurt but in time it will all work out! I ended up in Durham, which I love :)
I'm stressing over how to prepare for my law interview! I'm fully prepared to get that rejection email though 😆 I'm super grateful that I even got an interview.
REMEMBER THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS WHO HAVE A'S OR A*'S TRYING TO GET IN. SO LAZY WON'T DO. I APPLIED TO OX AND ALTHOUGH I AM THE HARDEST WORKING PERSON, I ONLY HAD 1 A-LEVEL BECAUSE IM NOT FROM THE UK SO IT WAS A BIG NONO.
I can totally appreciate that, but at the time I was not ready for it. I’m sure if you are a really hard worker you will go far in life :)
I'm sorry you got rejected. Remember that maybe this was for the best and you will see that later when you are at a place you want to be in, you'll be happy you didn't get in! I hope you find a uni that you're happy at!
Thanks and maybe it was for the best, I guess life works out eventually :)
It will! I promise!
You are a lovely guy. No piercings, tattoos, shaved head. Well spoken.
I hope everything worked out well for you.
Thats so kind of you, thank you :))
What's wrong with piercings, tattoos, and beards? :') I'm confused- appearance isn't something to use to judge how lovely someone is, but, still, I agree. He's a lovely guy.
@@yasirbek2666 I am an old fart
You ever considered modelling?
Aha no I haven't, should i have?
@@thatonecharlie It could be good as a hobby possibly! Not saying that you should, but in my opinion you would do really well, just like you have done academically.
Well thank you then, Maybe some day :)
Watching this a day before results come out... got the feedback requesting email ready (:
Good luck, I'm sure youll do great no matter what :)
Svetlana was it good news??? I got an offer from Trinity Hall, hope you got an offer too
Emma Williams yes! Got an offer for Trinity.. congratulations to you
Congrats on you both getting offers :)
Svetlana well done! Maybe we’ll run into each other haha!
Good luck dude, btw you earned a new subscriber..hehe
Ahh thank you :)
@@thatonecharlie U r very welcome
Can someone clarify the admissions process for me? Let’s say apply with your predicted grades which meet the criteria of the Oxbridge requirements but still get rejected. On what basis do they reject you? Considering you met all the grade requirements .-. pls pardon my inexperience, i am an international applicant
Grades are the initial hurdle one needs to get over, it is the baseline that your expected to apply with. Candidates without such grades won't be considered. After that there is still an excess of candidates in comparison to the number of spaces and therefore who gets a place is dictated by other factors. These are: your personal statement, contextual data (where you did your GCSE's, where you live etc), usually an admissions test and 2 interviews with leading academics in your field.
Lol I got rejected by Cambridge last week. I’ve got a Durham offer though which I’m super gassed about
Sorry to hear that, but Durham is really great :))
I've got my interview in 3 days and I am so stressed lol
Don't stress out about it, at the end of the day its meant to be like a conversation in a topic that you are really passionate about. Interviewers aren't trying to trip you up, but they want to get the best out of you, so just try and enjoy it :)
@@thatonecharlie Thankyou for this! will definitely keep that in mind at my interview tomorrow :)
Just got rejected from Cambridge for HSPS absolutely gutted, still holding onto reapplying but idk if that’s just denial lol
Honestly, it sucks when it happens but if you reapply you know the process and it'll be so much easier when you do!! Good luck and I'm sure whatever happens will be amazing!!
@@thatonecharlie thank you!! Think it’s easy to forget that it’s not personal it’s just so competitive
yeah it is massively competitive and not a personal reflection in the slightest
Hi. I got rejected from Cambridge for natural sciences this year. I did get into the pool though and I’m considering reapplying. I got 4 A*s and I think I can use the feedback to do better in admissions assessments. I’d do further maths alevel too during the gap year. I don’t know if this is a good idea though because I got into a great uni so it seems sketchy giving up that place. Particularly this year. I’d be grateful to know if anyone is in the same situation or has some advice?
What if you are only doing 3, A levels at College would you still have a chance to get In Cambridge?
3 A-levels is all they require and you have just as good a chance of getting in if you have 3 :)
@@thatonecharlie thank you it's just that I'm really struggling at this particular subject and i fear that if I have to retake it they won't allow me to do 1 more A level
Just keep going and you'll be good :)
What if you do really bad In GCSE but you do really good In college? Will you be able to still get in?
Yeah definitely, Cambridge wants to see an improvement so if you haven’t done well at gcse but you do really well at AS, then they can see signs that you are improving! Just look at Ibz Mo for example! Also good predicted grades help :)
@@thatonecharlie thanks Bro I'm currently in yr11 and will be doing my gcses next month and I'm really worrying but I believe that if I put my head down in college I thought I could get in Cambridge but then again I herd you need good gcses to but thanks for letting me know really appreciate that
@@thatonecharlie and what do you mean good predicted grades? For GCSE or AS predicated grades?
I’m sure you’ll do great, just work hard. And with regard to predicted grades, you need good A-level predicted grades with good AS results. GCSEs don’t matter for Cambridge, but they do matter for Oxford!
@@thatonecharlie thanks Bro really appreciate and I'm going for Cambridge hopefully I get In. Thank you for the help
You're gorgeous and smart, so really it's their loss.
Rejection gang
Oh no! I’d say it’s less of a rejection and more of a redirection :)
Does Cambridge focus a lot on you GCSEs?
nope
Hey! I am an international student and we don't have a system of A levels. Is it compulsory for international students?
I don’t think it’s compulsory to do A-Levels! I think you can do IB or local qualifications, but you’ll have to check!
@@thatonecharlie thank you. :)
Hey if you did check tell me please I'm from a diffrent country and I really want to apply at a uni in the UK
Thanks!
Hiii I’m in college and I am currently studying 2 BTECs and 1 A Level and I really want to get into Cambridge and I have started working hard since it’s a fresh start, but I fear that I won’t get in since I am doing 2 BTECs Can I still get into Cambridge with 2 BTECS and 1 A level? Thank you for taking your time to read this message.
I feel you'll need to check with the college and course you want to apply to in Cambridge. It's probably worth just sending them a message to ask you, as I don't know off the top of my head.
Ohhh alright thank you for your help
Ive just sent my application off and you NEED 3 A LEVELS so if you want to go you should drop your B tecs and pick up A levels and only do this if you think you are extremely academically able NOT JUST SUBJECT SPECIFIC because admissions test are very difficult and you can’t prepare 100%
Get_ Shrekd_ ohhhh now I’m just praying they’ll allow me to do 3 A levels because I only came out with 4 GCSEs thank you it means a lot ❤️
Get_ Shrekd_ what do you mean by not subject specific?
Unlucky, but the obvious mistake was your grades. To get into Oxbridge you want to be predicted and achieving the top grades
I never actually believed I would get in. I mainly wanted to do it for the process of applying, also meant I got my application off early. Also I really loved the course, so nice to dream
Have you finished uni now? Also have you got insta? :)
I'm going into my second year of university at Durham now. And yes I do have insta @thatone_charlie
What is your instagram
Sorry I don’t have a public Instagram yet. Although if you think I should then let me know :)
He’s really cute lol
Don't. Do an apprenticeship.
