- Just like the good old days..! Class 52 loco D1015 'Western Champion' disappears into the distance in a huge cloud of clag! See the loco leaving Kidderminster on a GBRf operated mainline test circuit via Oxford, Didcot, Swindon and Cheltenham..
Granted this isn't the scene for everyone nowadays however it still appeals to many! Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

My old Dad [God rest his soul] would have been grinning "Ear to Ear" like a proper Cheshire Cat if he'd still been around to watch this with me 💙
He and I have been in the company of "The Champ" at many a Diesel Gala at the SVR over the years.
I'm sure he persuaded my Mum to take our holidays in and around Plymouth so WE could go "Spotting" the Western Region rarities given we were Crewies !!! LOL 😂

That thing is an Oil burning heap, it does that on a hot day with hours of running only the clag turns darker.
A glorious sight to behold, I could almost smell it as I sat here watching

Over fuel or insufficient compression or a combination of both causing part burnt fuel to be exhausted .
It was like this when it ran the Heart of Wales in about 2016 .
At which point it had a problem with the turbo manifold .
It wants fixing .. cut back the fuel on each cylinder until some of the fumes reduce

Lots of comments about the exhaust but consider how many old diesel white vans are out there on the roads. Makes the pollution from one loco pale into insignificance.

More oil than soot that! You can tell by the blue tinge in the smoke. White is unburnt fuel, black is soot same with grey and blue ish white is oil and unburnt fuel.
All those unburnt hydrocarbons!
Nice sound, though, although I still can't see why they couldn't have kept the wonderhorse in BR Maroon!
I too wonder at such clouds of blue. Great shots to video but do show perhaps why they are now only preserved. Let's just hope they don't offend too many people too soon. 👍👍👍👍

Classic cold Engine, it needs a good revving under load for a sustained time to expand all that Metal in there, the smoking will cut right back then.

Not exactly clag central I'm afraid, the blue smoke is because the engines cold!
The engines were certainly warm - they were already running (and smoking!) when I arrived 45 min before the departure.
I hope it is on its way to be fixed and it will take more that a can of additive in the fuel tank! This is what gives diesels a bad name! Those passengers on Kiddy station will be complaining for sure!
It’s because it’s just started up and is cold it will get clearer
that should not be smoking like that, injectors and pump need looking at.
