I was fortunate to be invited to attend a U.P. Deer Camp in southern Marquette County of over 20 years. Each camp in the U.P. has its own traditions and I was careful to observe them. Great times with great people.
The UP is scary at night. Been camping and fishing many times there, and sometimes you get the shit scared out of you by some of the noises in the woods at night.
@@kerbygator it sure can be. Saw a lot of different types of animals over the years like coyotes and wolves, and at night…who knows what some of those noises are? 😳
We’ve been fortunate to have never seen a single mouse in the camp! My dad was involved in the construction before he passed and was super serious about keeping them out. Unfortunately I’m not entirely sure what methods he used.
In regions with a deep frost line, mice and rats have a tough time living. Most I've seen in Fairbanks, were something called shrews. Shrews are almost non-existent, from my experience, until provided proper living quarters.
I need to get back to the U.P. Our friends who we stay with up there were also complaining about the lack of deer. We sure get them down state and have herds of them in suburbs.
Absolutely. Wonderful to hear somebody call a deer camp. A deer camp instead of these rich people that drive 20 minutes from home and call it a cabin! LOL. I have a 40 myself in Tilden township. Hunting used to be great, but not anymore. They just sent me paperwork. They're gonna raise my taxes again for services. I don't get! They're trying to chase us out.
Talstar and a 1.5 gallon hand sprayer would take care of insects for 60-90 days. I spray my Michigan "cabin" land three times a year. APRIL; JUNE and AUGUST. First freeze will take care the insects in the end. I quit hunting after I got back from Nam in 71. Nice video Sir! Tip of the Mitt
I really miss traveling to the UP like i used to for work...those mosquitoes must if been geejed to smell the fresh hairless neat comming up the drive..... I'm near Kalkaska and they haven't been to bad this summer but the deer flies r more than making up for it
Iron county had the best gene pool for big deer. We used to hunt in Gogebic county off the end of Lac Vieux Desert. Big old swamp bucks around there. If they got too much pressure they would go into the swamp. Lot of them died of old age there.
It’s nice to get back to the basics. I have a similar set up and I can actually somehow slow down enough to read a book or enjoy the fire in between sits. It’s not for everybody but I live in the city so I get plenty of comforts during the week and off season. Don’t rag a man for what he’s got because 40 acres and a cabin is beautiful.
Im all for hunting but if hanging a gun out the window of a camp thats not hunting… thats nothing more then target practice… go work for that animal… track it.. find it.. harvest it… put in the work of hunting and reap the rewards… hell you drove up comfy in ur 4x4 to the front door of your cabin and poached animals… not a hunter in my book.
@@jagaman07 so “poached” doesn’t mean what you think it means, because there has been zero poaching going on on our property. That’s a pretty serious comment to make without a shred of truth.
Nice property. Thanks for sharing.

That’s awesome! Yeah, they have traditions that have stood the test of time.
Great looking camp and remote spot! Looks like you should use it more often
Thanks! Yeah should try to plan for spending more time out there.
Ultimate "Man Cave Cabin". Dry. But that thermal silver wall finish is the best. I could stay there forever
Good video nice little cabin.I bet a wood stove would really make it hot in there
@@patrothwell9138 thank you! Yeah a wood stove would definitely make it hot.
Awesome looking camp. I got a camp up there pretty much in same area yours is inn. Were way back inn as well. Thanks for the tour👍
Thanks! That’s awesome-sure is pure woods up there. Just gotta be prepared for the bugs in the summer lol.

You can tell the season's in the up by what insects black fly then mosquitos then deer flies got too love summer

How do you keep the mice from nesting in all that bedding you have made? I'm curious to hear how you do it.

There was a big report on that. They are trying to study why this is going on. More deer down south and not many in the U P
That's all you need. Warm and dry!
For sure!
great camp

No air, but it’s nice and cool around hunting season.

Will always be a deer camp to us. Sorry to hear about the taxes-we pay our share too and it does suck.

When the zombies are out, you’ll be safer in non urban areas like your camp….smart…until the others pass through your land to get further north…

40 acres of free wood, I'd get a small woodstove. & buy a bush hog.
