Great job - learned quite a bit. Liked the speed at which you worked and the way you explained things. Thanks!

I just learned a ton for you. Thank for sharing your knowledge. I have been reviving and old cnc laser that had a bad main board.
I have replaced it with a ramps 1.4 board and an arduino.
This video really helped me learn more about getting what need from inkscape.

How do you actually get inkscape to decide which is cut and which is engrave ? I can engrave on my laser but can't seem to get it to cut. How do you send the different colours to the laser please ?

Depends on your laser and the software you use to make it cut. So it's hard to say exactly how to work your exact setup.

ok....YOU MY FRIEND...are a very good teacher. I have had a brand new laser machine in my office since February. I haven't even turned it on yet. The reason WHY...is because it's a CHINNNNNEEESSSEEE laser and the manual is a JOKE. it written like a bad Chinese martial arts film. I have a 50 watt machine...(Orion) I haven't turned it on because there is NO user friendly SOFTWARE. I have inkscape but don't know jack about it. Jack means NOTHING. There's an older guy who TRIES to teach on you tube... but you have to watch hours and hours and hours of his video to get a little information. for OLDER slower people as myself if you could do multiple videos on how to go through EVERYTHING...like a video just on vector...then another on raster. and then going through what every icon in inkscape is it would be very very very helpful...you have a pleasant voice and are a very very good teacher..please do more...I need to LEARN. Just like on the movie MALIBU'S MOST WANTED with Jamie Kennedy...i'm like...I WANNA LEARN I WANNA LEARN...lmao thank you for the video my friend. please keep it up.. John from Kansas. i'm 61.

John, I am so glad you found the video helpful. I did it years ago when I was on a self funded sabbatical from corporate life. I've since gone back to work. This time at a wonderful company that provides me with fulfilling work. Sadly, this means I just don't have the time it takes to make videos. I hope my short, to-the-point video can get you going on the right path. I feel your pain with overly long videos that go into painful details on the trivia without focusing on getting work done. I personally set the playback speed to 2x so I waste less time finding the good bits. It takes a bit to get used to, but now unless someone speaks very fast watching in normal speed is unbearable. Good luck to you, research shows that pushing your brain like this improves it rapidly and can quickly counteract the effects of ageing. So remember that being frustrated is to your brain like being sore from working out is to your muscles.

I liked your video but gotta few questions. How could you raster an image or for example the text that has a fill, how would you do that? And can you set power and speed by color and how? (or is that only possible with layers)

Filled text must be Raster which is S.L.O.W. Stick to Hershey fonts when possible. Power and speed by color varies by laser cutter. My software does account for that.
