Thanks for another great grand opening tunnel tour! Really looking forward to seeing all of this new tunneled infrastructure, next time I'm in Sydney. Cheers!
Hey Thats me talking in the beginning of the Video, I was on the bridge live streaming on Reddit! Great work, I have been watching your videos for a while.
Personally I like the idea of the Northconnex tunnel being regarded as an extension of the M7, via an extended duplex of the M2/M7 on Hills Motorway. Therefore acting as a complete western bypass of the city from the M31 Hume.
On Sunday afternoon, I drove in light traffic from Sydney CBD along the M2 Westbound. My navigation app wrongly told me to use either of the two right lanes to enter the Northconnex. You can only use the outer right turning to have any chance of cutting across the multiple lanes to enter the tunnel entrance. Traffic from the other side of the eastbound M2 enter at the same time and cut you off. An absolute dog's breakfast. Luckily, the PHR had very little traffic.
Who else finds it strange that there’s no direct entrance into NorthConnex from M2 Westbound (coming from city)? You have to get off M2 Westbound at Pennant Hills rd exit and turn right to then enter NorthConnex. During PM peak hour wouldn’t that Pennant Hills Rd exit from M1 get completely chocka-block??
It doesn't make sense, and it also means that you have to pay the toll TWICE if you are coming onto the M2 from, say, Lane Cove Rd or the Lane Cove Tunnel.
Thanks for posting as I am a ex Sydney Taxi Driver so I was interested I don't feel like coming out of retirement and taking a drive so video next best thing
Thank fucking God for this road. I spent 3 years driving from Tascott to Kingsgrove for work every day. Basically just glad to be alive when I got to work. The trucks on Pennant Hills road were fucking dangerous.
I find it weird that they will signpost Sydney for Northconnex as it goes in kinda the opposite direction and even in the middle of the day. Google maps says it is still faster to go via pacific highway
I feel like they should number NorthConnex as M7 and make part of the Hills Motorway shared by M2 and M7, that way it defines a very clear bypass route (M7) of Sydney between north and south, and easier to navigate for unfamiliar drivers
The North Connex technically should be given M1 as it's a extension of the Pacific Motorway however being a toll it should not contain the Pacific Motorway name.
while this might make sense the "1" route would then disappear at the southern end unless you duplex it with the M2 leading to the city so the "1" can rejoin its journey south
The major sign is too close to the actual departure lanes , otherwise a great bit of work . Just wish they would look at the best practice from overseas for early warning signage and countdown signage for lane changes .
I drove on it a week ago. It's really good, so quick. Straight through Sydney now without a set of traffic lights. I was in a work car so was free for me.
My truck eats shit on even small hills and I can hold 80 kmh comfortably coming out both north and southbound , the exit southbound up onto pennent hills road is a bit steeper tho apparently
I'm not going to comment on the ethics of forcing truck drivers to take a private road, but i think two things need to be taken into account: 1) The truckies will likely save more than $27 in fuel, wear and tear, labor cost by bypassing all the traffic lights on PH rd. 2)if they didn't make it compulsory unscrupulous trucks would still take PH rd, benefiting from the reduced congestion of the trucks which did pay for the tunnel. They definitely needed to get the trucks off PH road.It was not feasible for every single truck going from the North of NSW to the South to pass through resedential sydney streets.
Tunnels are expensive. 9km tunnels are very expensive. $8 is the toll after the State and Fed government have chipped in $400+m each and the quarry site for fill. Without that it would likely have been $12-15. On a per km basis its much much cheaper than the Cross City Tunnel or using the Eastern Distributor from Moore Park
@@mark123655 sure I accept that tunnels are expensive but the issue I have is these tolls are never used to pay the road off. They are used as revenue grabbers for 40 plus years.
$8 bucks each way to go to work etc , so $80 bucks a week per car .......... $24 bucks for a truck each way ,so $240 per week , and i bet when its paid off , the toll will continue ... so great tunnel but what a rip off for the locals ... would maybe do it once , australians pay so much in taxes this kind of thing should never be a toll road ... great revenue raiser thats about it....
It's not $8 for cars and $24 for heavy vehicles! It's $8 for vehicles under 2.8 metres high and $24 for vehicles over 2.8 metres high!! Which is garbage, my motor home weighs 4000 kilograms and is classed as a light vehicle, that only needs a car licence to drive and it is 2850millimetres high and I have to pay $24 or go around!!! Same thing on all the toll roads!!!!

Awesome tunnel lights look amazing and nice and colourful inside the tunnel northconnex M1 M2 M7 Motorway
Good stuff, was looking forward to your NCX video after watching your M8 drive-through. Well done!
I love the colours in the M11 tunnel
thanks for uploading

love Australia, love Sydney very much!
I like this tunnel because it is very cool
That’s super cool. Like a scene out of Tron.

I love the Northconnex
Greatest time ever to yesterday road trips IMAX Van 🚐 Hyundai and NorthConnex Tunnel Are and Everyone are very Dark and tunnel 15th July 2022.

Cool stuff, tunnel looks pretty awesome although I can't see myself regularly using it with that $8 one way charge.
the toll relief should help but yes, given pennant hills rd is much quieter and importantly no trucks you wouldn't use it unless you really needed to.
Congrats on capturing the first truck through the tunnel. We'll done
Nice video

Good video 😀👍👊🏻

The opening of NCX caused heavy goods vehicles to be prohibited from using A28 as a bypass.
I feel like they should number NorthConnex as M7 and make part of the Hills Motorway shared by M2 and M7, that way it defines a very clear bypass route (M7) of Sydney between north and south, and easier to navigate for unfamiliar drivers
maybe try again in the morning and evening rush hours to see how many trucks and commuters are using the tunnel
The North Connex technically should be given M1 as it's a extension of the Pacific Motorway however being a toll it should not contain the Pacific Motorway name.

NCX should be numbered M28…
Wowwwwwwww
As seen at 3:10 drivers rounding the corner will be distracted by the lights and swerve into the next lane
First truck be like, 'fcuk, there goes my lunch and beer money'
The major sign is too close to the actual departure lanes , otherwise a great bit of work . Just wish they would look at the best practice from overseas for early warning signage and countdown signage for lane changes .
What program do you use to create the road signs on your videos?
I believe the program used to make the street signs is TrasiCAD, and you’ll need to get the road font pack to make them as accurate as possible.
Hey quick question, how do you get a license for Trasicad
I drove on it a week ago. It's really good, so quick. Straight through Sydney now without a set of traffic lights. I was in a work car so was free for me.
How do u make road signs?
Great. Will it be faster than Harbour tunnel and Pacific Highway ?
Beautiful new road. Shame about the 80km speed limit , should be 90 or 100 . I guess the 80km limit will make more $$$$ for the Government.
in terms of the gradient at exit and entry barely noticeable like the M8/M4 tunnels?
My truck eats shit on even small hills and I can hold 80 kmh comfortably coming out both north and southbound , the exit southbound up onto pennent hills road is a bit steeper tho apparently
Awesome, it's finally open!
Nihan ❤😂🎉
❤😂🎉
cost $3 billion but only two lanes?
Nice but a bit of a rip off so I will continue to use Pennant hills road.
They should have built it 3 lanes wide from the start.
You need 50 ads in this video to cover the ridiculous toll price for a road we already paid for
cool dont have rip off using the dam thing
This is really awesome, but why oh why is it 8 dollars? And they are forcing trucks to use and pay for a private owned road ($27)
Why? Seriously? Capitalism!

Can't wait to drive it in January 2021, and I won't be wearing any mask.

its a shame the government privatised it, the prices are an absolute rip off for people who need to use it.

sydney has different classifications compared to say brisbane where they have 4 classes for tolls, a much more equitable system
