Honestly seeing that new information that basil kind of has his own thing going on in his mind I think it would be really cool if someone made a fan game where he’s in main character, I just think it has potential since I feel like the way basil handles things and feels and acts is very interesting even if it’s just in the real world for most of it.
I agree that it would be a very cool mod. Most mods that give a different character’s perspective don’t really change how headspace works. They still have a similar whitespace, and they’re still black and white in their dreams, and the dreams are always happy. so one about basil would be very interesting
My idea is that "Something" was created by Basil's imagination, because he was stuck in Denial of Sunny accidentally killing Mari when they argued. He simply didn't want to accept his best friend being a murderer. Basil even said on the final day that Sunny would never move away from Faraway Town, blaming "Something behind him" again because he cannot cope with the fact that Basil will probably never see Sunny again after that. Also, I low-key believe that Basil was gaslighting Sunny a bit into believing of "Something's" existence because Sunny himself couldn't handle what he did to Mari, hence why "Something" exists in Sunny's Headspace. And Omori tries to get rid of Dream Basil because he is the cause of this, but Basil continues to live rent-free in Sunny's head as the Stranger.
the basil question is super interesting. i think it gives a lot of insight into his character. i hope she expands on what he went through and how he felt after the incident (if we ever have a spin-off im hoping it’s mostly basil’s pov). it just shows how sunny and basil are different in the ways they dealt with their trauma. also i fully agree with omocat with the sequel thing. it ended where it needed to. it’s fun to think what happened after and there’s still so many theories but yeah. the ending is perfect
AAAAAA I FOLLOWED THE CREATOR AND LOVED HIS SERIES, HE WENT IN SUCH A DEEP ANALISYS! It' really a shame for non- italian speakers, because he's such a good creator, he went really really deep like no one else. When Cydonia and Chiara looked at the fan-art , in the second- last episode, they were so happy and the fans could not belive it. :)) Then when Omocat herself passed to say hi in the chat, i litterally went crazy. As I said, Cydonia and his community loved this game, he actually made a video talking about all the good things Omori has as a game and why he (just like many other people) became so passionate about it. When deciding the best 2020 game he obviously chose Omori, even if he played a lot of beautiful games. I think the main reason Omocat did this with him and not others creators was because of how much passion he had when playing, and the deep analysis he made. Every fragment of the game was deeply discussed as well as the themes the game' s about, and he made a ton of theories live. We should add the fact he played it really early, when it wasn't as famous as today too. I'm happy to give some details as someone who was there and speaks his language, sorry for the long comment. :)
i'm Italian and a huge Cydonia fan, i really forget that if you don't speak italian all the thinghs that he has done over the years are complete obscure, he created a massive community of Omori fan here (Including myself) and a lot of Pokèmon related stuff, i love to see him outside Italy.
on question 4, just wanna put something out there, i've always found the interest and speculation of "basil's whitespace" strange because the game shoves it in your face that whitespace is completely shutting out your surroundings and senses and "being nothing". we learn basil has isolated himself at certain points in the game but he's almost a total foil to sunny regarding trauma response in that whereas sunny blocks his guilt out, basil is completely consumed by it. even with brief isolation, he likely wouldn't have a true whitespace like sunny's because he never repressed his guilt and simply lived with it eating him up every day which is why he inevitably dies by suicide without sunny's intervention whereas sunny can simply block his existence out and carry on in his own mind. basil again has the complete opposite of that response to the trauma and any possible mental retreat in his mind would probably be best comparable to blackspace, where everything he would be wanting to repress would replay in his head constantly in contrast since that essentially is his mental state. omocat says that "something only exists because basil believes it does" and it manifests in the real world for the same reason to refer to the fact that the various "something"s we see in the real world segments are the genuine physical manifestations of their guilt and trauma, and that "something behind you" which basil refers to only actually exists because basil subconsciously made it up in denial to take the blame away from sunny, therefore, if he wasn't psychologically splitting sunny from his actions as something and was thinking rationally then "something behind him" would never have existed for him since it too is just a physical manifestation of his denial and guilt. it's the same reason why when he dies by suicide it can be metaphorically construed as him trying to "take out his own something" alone because something is only a metaphor for the physical guilt and pain left behind. this comment is long asf but just my interpretation of that answer.
I think if Omori were to have sequels it would be kinda cool to make it an anthology series of different disconnected stories with people in different situations with their own headspaces and somethings. Especially the artist character since she also had a comic about her made although that would probably be less of a horror game and more about surrealism. Also Omori being partially inspired by fullmetal alchemist makes…a disturbing amount of sense
I actually have a very strong interest in wanting to see an Omori go-kart game. There are many ideas and concepts I have in my head for ages, from racers and tracks to items and themes, and it's a shame I know nothing of programming. However, if Omocat would genuinely like to make such a game and wants me on the team to help, I'd be happy to share what I have and come up with more within my ability. I think an Omori racer has plenty of potential for creativity.

Can't believe they were inspired by Dark Cloud. It makes me so happy to know that this underrated PS2 game from my childhood inspired the tag mechanic from one of the best games ever made.

The Basil question makes perfect sense to me. Reacting to trauma by disassociating yourself from it and getting amnesia of that period of time is not a common response, though it’s very real. It makes sense that Sunny is the one who shuts down this way while Basil suffers from crippling anxiety. Also just cool theming that the trauma affects the two best friends in kinda opposite ways, shutting down vs. mind racing all the time.

The bit about Basil is actually very interesting to me, as I've been a Basil fan since launch and thought a lot about his perspective and personality. He's way more anxious than Omori, and we see him awake when everyone else is asleep, that made me want to try to make a story of Omori where we embark from Basil's POV, maybe call it something like Omori: Basil's Insomnia. Basil has always deserved more attention for being so closely related to Sunny, and with what little we know about him, I think it'd be nice to have someone tell us his story.

I would really love to see some light hearted OMORI spin offs. Real canon content that adds serious lore might be too detracting from the original experience, but I'd love to see some fun stuff. Even a silly Kel focused game where he goes through a goofy OrangeSpace to find Hector again or smth would be fun. I'll take any sort of official OMORI content, but I think less serious stuff would be the way to go.

Honestly seeing a game wherever Basil went during the start of the game possible meeting new characters in the dreamworld would be awesome. Maybe we’d see the actual act of what Sunny and Basil did to Mari or even a new perspective we couldn’t even think of

I would ADORE it if they made a game focusing on basil and his white space. I know the team will probably never make a sequel bc the game is so perfect by itself, but I can’t help but want more 😭
The basil bit is fascinating to me... because it simultaneously implies Something could be both real and fake. Allow me to elaborate. OMOcat says; "I don't think Basil is able to hide from his problems the same way Sunny does. That's why his problems manifest directly in his real life. After all, the "Somethings" exist only because Basil believes they're real." We know that immediately after the incident, Sunny kinda just... "shuts down". Anything Basil says isn't truly heard by him. And after that, Sunny stops interacting with basically everyone. I don't think Basil even had the chance to talk to Sunny about the Something's prior to the interactions we see in the present... which should therefore mean Sunny, in the OMORI route, sees them despite Basil never telling him about it. Does this mean Something is a literal supernatural manifestation of Basil's illusion? Or was there something OMOcat neglected to mention...? Given that the supernatural is just canocally a thing that happens (Mari scene), and also given that Sunny isn't a reliable narrator, it's hard to say.
in one of the cutscenes after omori stabs himself in white space to go to rw (it might be the second time? dont fully remember but it was one of the black and white post-recital ones) it shows sunny and basil and basil's something behind him as he says "did you see it too? something... behind you" so sunny already knew about something, as well as him having constructed his own something only after he glanced back at mari whereas basil's was constructed when he looked down at mari's body at the bottom of the steps and saw her long strands of hair splayed out, i really don't think it's meant as anything more than their own individual/personal manifestations of guilt.
and also, sunny did talk to basil - not extensively but not really briefly either, after the accident. every white space flashback sunny has are their interactions after the trauma, the first one at the beginning is right before basil gives his album to sunny to try and help him remember before sunny scribbled them out and got worse. they both were very aware of each other's condition prior to sunny's isolation.
@@mirulei Ohhhh, thanks for informing me of all this. It's good to have some clarity on it. However, that also begs the question of why Sunny can also see Basil's something. As you said, Basil's is modeled after the strands of Mari's hair. That too is something Sunny had no way to know, and yet he still sees Basil's something as that exact manifestation. If I were to guess, he'd probably see Basil's something as his own if they weren't real to SOME capacity... Though I'd like to hear your thoughts! Perhaps there's something else I missed...
@@thatoneguywhoworksatjoespl9701 EDIT AT BOTTOM good question, i personally assume it's figurative for sunny being able to "understand" why basil is traumatized after what he saw despite not actually having been in basil's position, the same way he had basil's perspective during mari's death ""memorized"" in the sense that the truth album is shown from basil's pov in sunny's mind; that along with the fact that sunny also remembered basil seeing mari's body from the one basil cassette cutscene after picking up one of the blackspace letters. the reason they have distinct something's is probably to further relate to their different reasonings for handling the guilt and death in the ways they did, since they both had distinct motives and roles in the situation. and also-- if you think about it; since the entire game is told from sunny's perspective almost everything we know about the characters is something sunny knows to an extent ((i'm not sure if i worded this in a way that makes since but that's just my interpretation i think?)) EDIT: ACTUALLY, i just came to the revelation that their somethings/guilt visually represent how their actions traumatized each other. sunny is haunted by the sight of mari's body after basil *hung her up* with the noose (her eye looking back at him) and basil is haunted by the sight of mari's body after sunny *pushed her down* the stairs (her hair splayed out on the ground), because that's the distinct moment the gravity of the situation hit each of them the hardest. i was kind of getting at that but i didn't make the full connection until just now. i really think this is it.

It's also the reason why I think the Somethings are real, to some capacity... since, I don't think Sunny was aware enough, or even looking enough to know and remember where Basil was and what he was doing throughout the incident. And, TRUST ME, I don't like explaining things in the story with 'Well actually I think Headspace is an actual thing and all'... since it lessens the impact of the mental health message... but that's what it all sorta leads to. Allow me to elaborate. I think that, to some degree, Basil shared his memory with Sunny in that moment. It sounds dumb, but like, that's the only way I can visualize the truth album working at all from Basil's perspective, given how Sunny was pretty much in whitespace that whole time. I just don't think he was aware enough to remember some of the details, like Basil's exact expressions. Stranger also says some things that only make sense in the context of modern day Basil... and you can hear this on a neutral run. "Even seeing you now... It's hard to think straight. I can feel my heart hurting and I want to cover my face and hide. There are so many things I want to say to you... but the words won't come out. I just... I waited so long for you to come back, SUNNY... but... you never did." So I think... at least, in some fashion... they're connected mentally? Perhaps the Somethings aren't real and they're literally seeing eachothers illusions? Maybe both are true? Gah. I'm more confused then when I first started writing this response. I'd like to hear your thoughts... and frankly, I want to hear them, I wanna be convinced otherwise.

For comments on question 4, if you ask me, I'd actually argue that if basil had a white space, due to it being frantic and such, it would also be a black space. This would line up well with Basil being unable to escape his own mind, after all. I'd also imagine that Basil having a headspace would result in that being merged with the white space and by proxy black space.

Spoilers: So that's what I get from the Basil answer. We know that Basil has a fear of being neglected, he doesn't live with his parents (I don't actually remember the reason lol) his grandmother, the only one relative of his he lives with, dying on her bed, and he gets in trauma when Kel informs him that Sunny was going to move. I think the Somethings that Basil sees are the thing that might have destroyed the friend group he never thought he had, the spider and the water almost kill Sunny, and the stairs is quite obvious even though we know that Basil likes spiders despite many finding them scary like Hero. Basil sees his worst fear of neglect happening again and again where even a WHITE SPACE couldn't help him avoid it whereas Sunny for two long years (no pun intended) could easily avoid his fear of guilt for killing his sister by barricading himself and deny the event has ever happened, deny there's a door at his house leading to a broken violin by stating "there's nothing here" and avoiding entering the piano room in hikkikomori. Basil thought that perhaps covering the murder of Mari might have saved the friendship, but Something/Mari was always there, behind Sunny so he (Sunny) will always avoid from it, and she will always be behind him, but the way she actually looked like, before the hanging, is something that Sunny wished he could follow. In the end, depends if you played the true route, Sunny does tell his friends about his and Basil's crime, do Kel, Hero and Aubrey leave Sunny and Basil, do they tell them to the police? It doesn't matter, Sunny has finally overcame Omori and finally he and Basil live in peace, well Basil lives in peace as long as you watered his damn flowers in HEADSPACE.

The Basil question makes perfect sense to me. Reacting to trauma by disassociating yourself from it and getting amnesia of that period of time is not a common response, though it’s very real. It makes sense that Sunny is the one who shuts down this way while Basil suffers from crippling anxiety. Also just cool theming that the trauma affects the two best friends in kinda opposite ways, shutting down vs. mind racing all the time.

The bit about Basil is actually very interesting to me, as I've been a Basil fan since launch and thought a lot about his perspective and personality. He's way more anxious than Omori, and we see him awake when everyone else is asleep, that made me want to try to make a story of Omori where we embark from Basil's POV, maybe call it something like Omori: Basil's Insomnia. Basil has always deserved more attention for being so closely related to Sunny, and with what little we know about him, I think it'd be nice to have someone tell us his story.

I would really love to see some light hearted OMORI spin offs. Real canon content that adds serious lore might be too detracting from the original experience, but I'd love to see some fun stuff.
Even a silly Kel focused game where he goes through a goofy OrangeSpace to find Hector again or smth would be fun. I'll take any sort of official OMORI content, but I think less serious stuff would be the way to go.

The basil bit is fascinating to me... because it simultaneously implies Something could be both real and fake. Allow me to elaborate.
OMOcat says; "I don't think Basil is able to hide from his problems the same way Sunny does. That's why his problems manifest directly in his real life. After all, the "Somethings" exist only because Basil believes they're real."
We know that immediately after the incident, Sunny kinda just... "shuts down". Anything Basil says isn't truly heard by him. And after that, Sunny stops interacting with basically everyone. I don't think Basil even had the chance to talk to Sunny about the Something's prior to the interactions we see in the present... which should therefore mean Sunny, in the OMORI route, sees them despite Basil never telling him about it.
Does this mean Something is a literal supernatural manifestation of Basil's illusion? Or was there something OMOcat neglected to mention...? Given that the supernatural is just canocally a thing that happens (Mari scene), and also given that Sunny isn't a reliable narrator, it's hard to say.
in one of the cutscenes after omori stabs himself in white space to go to rw (it might be the second time? dont fully remember but it was one of the black and white post-recital ones) it shows sunny and basil and basil's something behind him as he says "did you see it too? something... behind you" so sunny already knew about something, as well as him having constructed his own something only after he glanced back at mari whereas basil's was constructed when he looked down at mari's body at the bottom of the steps and saw her long strands of hair splayed out, i really don't think it's meant as anything more than their own individual/personal manifestations of guilt.
and also, sunny did talk to basil - not extensively but not really briefly either, after the accident. every white space flashback sunny has are their interactions after the trauma, the first one at the beginning is right before basil gives his album to sunny to try and help him remember before sunny scribbled them out and got worse. they both were very aware of each other's condition prior to sunny's isolation.
@@mirulei Ohhhh, thanks for informing me of all this. It's good to have some clarity on it. However, that also begs the question of why Sunny can also see Basil's something. As you said, Basil's is modeled after the strands of Mari's hair. That too is something Sunny had no way to know, and yet he still sees Basil's something as that exact manifestation. If I were to guess, he'd probably see Basil's something as his own if they weren't real to SOME capacity...
Though I'd like to hear your thoughts! Perhaps there's something else I missed...

good question, i personally assume it's figurative for sunny being able to "understand" why basil is traumatized after what he saw despite not actually having been in basil's position, the same way he had basil's perspective during mari's death ""memorized"" in the sense that the truth album is shown from basil's pov in sunny's mind; that along with the fact that sunny also remembered basil seeing mari's body from the one basil cassette cutscene after picking up one of the blackspace letters. the reason they have distinct something's is probably to further relate to their different reasonings for handling the guilt and death in the ways they did, since they both had distinct motives and roles in the situation. and also-- if you think about it; since the entire game is told from sunny's perspective almost everything we know about the characters is something sunny knows to an extent ((i'm not sure if i worded this in a way that makes since but that's just my interpretation i think?))
EDIT: ACTUALLY, i just came to the revelation that their somethings/guilt visually represent how their actions traumatized each other. sunny is haunted by the sight of mari's body after basil *hung her up* with the noose (her eye looking back at him) and basil is haunted by the sight of mari's body after sunny *pushed her down* the stairs (her hair splayed out on the ground), because that's the distinct moment the gravity of the situation hit each of them the hardest. i was kind of getting at that but i didn't make the full connection until just now. i really think this is it.

It's also the reason why I think the Somethings are real, to some capacity... since, I don't think Sunny was aware enough, or even looking enough to know and remember where Basil was and what he was doing throughout the incident. And, TRUST ME, I don't like explaining things in the story with 'Well actually I think Headspace is an actual thing and all'... since it lessens the impact of the mental health message... but that's what it all sorta leads to. Allow me to elaborate. I think that, to some degree, Basil shared his memory with Sunny in that moment. It sounds dumb, but like, that's the only way I can visualize the truth album working at all from Basil's perspective, given how Sunny was pretty much in whitespace that whole time. I just don't think he was aware enough to remember some of the details, like Basil's exact expressions.
Stranger also says some things that only make sense in the context of modern day Basil... and you can hear this on a neutral run.
"Even seeing you now... It's hard to think straight. I can feel my heart hurting and I want to cover my face and hide.
There are so many things I want to say to you... but the words won't come out.
I just... I waited so long for you to come back, SUNNY... but... you never did."
So I think... at least, in some fashion... they're connected mentally? Perhaps the Somethings aren't real and they're literally seeing eachothers illusions? Maybe both are true? Gah. I'm more confused then when I first started writing this response.
I'd like to hear your thoughts... and frankly, I want to hear them, I wanna be convinced otherwise.

For comments on question 4, if you ask me, I'd actually argue that if basil had a white space, due to it being frantic and such, it would also be a black space. This would line up well with Basil being unable to escape his own mind, after all. I'd also imagine that Basil having a headspace would result in that being merged with the white space and by proxy black space.

So that's what I get from the Basil answer.
We know that Basil has a fear of being neglected, he doesn't live with his parents (I don't actually remember the reason lol) his grandmother, the only one relative of his he lives with, dying on her bed, and he gets in trauma when Kel informs him that Sunny was going to move.
I think the Somethings that Basil sees are the thing that might have destroyed the friend group he never thought he had, the spider and the water almost kill Sunny, and the stairs is quite obvious even though we know that Basil likes spiders despite many finding them scary like Hero.
Basil sees his worst fear of neglect happening again and again where even a WHITE SPACE couldn't help him avoid it whereas Sunny for two long years (no pun intended) could easily avoid his fear of guilt for killing his sister by barricading himself and deny the event has ever happened, deny there's a door at his house leading to a broken violin by stating "there's nothing here" and avoiding entering the piano room in hikkikomori.
Basil thought that perhaps covering the murder of Mari might have saved the friendship, but Something/Mari was always there, behind Sunny so he (Sunny) will always avoid from it, and she will always be behind him, but the way she actually looked like, before the hanging, is something that Sunny wished he could follow.
In the end, depends if you played the true route, Sunny does tell his friends about his and Basil's crime, do Kel, Hero and Aubrey leave Sunny and Basil, do they tell them to the police? It doesn't matter, Sunny has finally overcame Omori and finally he and Basil live in peace, well Basil lives in peace as long as you watered his damn flowers in HEADSPACE.
