A huge amount of all that just comes from iterate iterate iterate though, he's talked about sub 2 minutes on 40 line sprint which you can play for free online is a great place to aim for first, and I've gotten there in like a week and half of attempts
Noobie Sensei I like to use that when I don’t have access to my switch, and I think it helped me. I changed the controls a little from the default, and although it doesn’t help muscle memory for 99, it does help learning how to build. I’ve gotten my time to consistently be ~1:35, but I also practice t-spins and combos. I know it helps, but I can’t imagine how long it would take to reach the level of players like Tafo and Wumbo.
Don't mean to sound sappy since this is tetris and all but you've really helped me grow and get super far in my rounds. Lowest I've gotten is 4th or 6th now and before watching your videos it was a lot higher
Hey Tafo, I've been playing quite a bit of T99 and I feel like I'm getting a lot better in no small part due to your videos. The current wall I'm running into though is I'm able to stack just fine in the early and mid game, but I get overwhelmed by the high gravity at the end. I think part of the reason for that is because I'm not really getting the pyramid shaped stack that you need to get pieces to the sides. Do you think you could make a video focusing on what you should be doing differently in the late/end game?
Hello, I'm not tafo, but I might have some advice, idk. When stacking high gravity, you want to stay as low as you can to be able to move the pieces left and right. If there are taller spots, try to maneuver your pieces onto them and then slide off. Personally, I'm fine with the speed until about the top 3, which usually only becomes a problem if the stack is high. Downstack as quickly as you can to get to the bottom. Spinning your pieces delays the drop time and makes thinking time better. Good luck!
Been playing for a few days now and I've been trying to work on this so thanks for the video! Another thing I've been trying to figure out - I see other people who will cancel attackers blocks (when they are in the left column still) and no matter how many times I clear a row I always get screwed. Does the height of your playing field merit more points towards canceling those? I can get a tetris and still not cancel blocks out.
You forgot about the most important rule of trying to fixing holes: NEVER BUILD ON TOP OF HOLES. In order for you to reach a hole, its top has to be open, so try to build absolutely nothing on top unless needed, that way you will quickly reach the hole.
Everyone: Man It'd be cool to get 1st in Tetris 99 Tafo: *literally teaching and reading chat while destroying everyone* Da fuck man. You're actually nuts
I generally have a 1 wide slot on the left and 2 wide slot above it. The 1 wide is for line pieces and the 2 wide is for L, square, T, and Z pieces. The right area is to raise everything minus the slot. How do I deal with S pieces though?
I try stacking up high but I get rushed and get knocked out I like to keep my stack as low I’m clearing lines. S blocks I get unsure to stack it long ways or up right.
@@ShadowFlyAJ If Tafo can beat the names I meantioned atleast once or atleast trade blows for a good 5 mins then he could be in the top 10. For now, he's most likely top 100.
What controller is he using? I can't really tell. I heard the Pro Wireless is terrible for this game. If he's using the Pro Wireless then i guess many of us are SOL 😆
That moment when you realize that the person who just beat you is making a tutorial about how to beat you.
Bruh XD
I like how he has a controller cam but you cant even see the controller. We gotta stare at his belly
BigBellyManTM
honestly is that not what we all came for
its a belly cam. we gotta tell him whenever he gets hungry to go eat
Another pro-tip: have god-like reflexes and coordination that allow you to do all of that multitasking that you just did.

I tried that site, kept messing up the controls. I think it's actually bad for my muscle memory

Why are you so good? its truly amazing watching you play
I'm just a newbie to Tetris
Hours played, practicing. Simple, but not easy.

Great question, and @AlvinGreat has great response. Still helping others, two years later!
1:41 - 1:58 how I sound in school assignments
awww, I would have loved if the replay/recap + commentary was appended to the end of this video.
To make a tutorial and end up being #1 is life goals af.
Most valuable vid on RUclips right now. Thanks.
I really appreciate the videos. You've helped me improve alot.

Some good fundamentals here. I first learned them from Nintendo Power way back when, and they've served me well ever since.
NL needs to see this video, it’s his one big problem, making really uneven towers
No video for 3 days, he might be waiting for a new controller
step two: draw the rest of the fucking owl
Perhaps worth mentioning why the well to the sides may be better than a middle well. (Probability to keep things flat)
But doesn't this make a T spin much harder to set up as you need to close of your well in order to actually do the T spin?
In Tetris 99, you can watch the battle you lost. I think that’s a great way to learn.
0:20 When you mess up your board and don’t at the same time
Don't worry, they can't type in chat while they're taking notes.
Next do how to clear garbage lines please !! (Downstacking)

I won my first game today ty sensei!
T piece is better than s or t
I think he means the Z-Piece.

nvm i just saw you saying about not building on top
That pfp though...
"S/Z bad ; T better than I"
wumbo is life
Wait till wumbotize enters the room. Look him up
So what you’re telling my I have to go ultra instinct... to go faster...
Thank you tafo very cool
best way to start a "how to build better" tutorial lmao xD

As he ANNIHILATES everyone who is watching this video XD

You're amazing
1:33 u didn't mess up. O--spin
Do something on planing for the next piece
Got my first win today, just before watching this!
Nice vid btw.
I try stacking up high but I get rushed and get knocked out I like to keep my stack as low I’m clearing lines. S blocks I get unsure to stack it long ways or up right.
No dislikes yay! You are the best tafo
Now.. HOW doremy, wumbo and amemiya plays so FAST?
Damn we got a god on youtube
randy nguyen no matter how much you take away from tafo, he’s definitely top 10 in this game
@@randallnguyen7405 or the 44 KO legend

Wumbo would beg to differ
Building and situations are difficult. digging is the worst for me
Is it important to look at the upcoming pieces?
Also holy shit that’s fast
Drink a Shot for every time he says "Like" xD
Mdoh
Thanks. I got alcohol poisoning and died.
Great game 👌
Drink 2 shots for "create a hole"

I always hold a I. Is this a good idea?
Not very. You might want to hold a T for setting Tspins, and for fixing boards in general, I guess. Unless you make I-dependencies often.
My eyes hurt it's so fast
close to me
I know dude
I won a game because of this
2024 Gang 👇
shoeplay
Just @ Northernlion next time lol
make it flat, took 9 minutes?
I mean, if you want brain dead easy stacking, why would you be doing anything but 6 3 stacking
tmz
wtf
Too fast
