I remember the news story of when some bought the original cast but I can't remember if it was iron cross or not, but the medals had the exact same defects as the originals
When I first got into collecting I was all over the place buying everything from medals to flags. Over time I’ve concentrated on the axis pistols & accessories and helmets. Read and learned as much as possible and still constantly learning.
I’ve seen fakes pumped on WAF by respectable collectors and dealers. I’ve also seen good items bashed by the same crowd. It’s a tough area to collect and it’s full of land mines.
I’d have expected Dave to have an original item and a fake copy of it, side by side for comparison....especially as he collects and sells? What happened to the Partisan Badges? They soon got cleared away, didn’t they? That particular badge is highly sort after and because of that, heavily faked....but no, no chat about that.... Frankly, I was disappointed but it isn’t in the Trades interest to let on too much, just in case folks stop buying those good quality reproductions....
Market is flooded with fakes. My RK i thought it was fake turns out it was a frankenstein og core but the frame was post war made by the looks of the frame most ppl said mine it's fake
Fantastic video Alex and Dave invaluable information as we all know knowledge in king in this hobby thx for sharing you’re expertise, Murray Australia 🇦🇺
I wouldn’t buy any of this stuff unless I pulled out of ground with my detector, Federowicz publishing out of Canada has great books with lots of live action photos that can help with medals, this is a minefield to buy this stuff
Do people really fake that stuff? Wild it's so abundant in my neck of the woods and tons of old ivory but you can't leave with it if you aren't from here unless it got scrimshawed or turned into art
don't buy fakes! just buy from Dave at 500% mark up from retail! Winning!

outstanding Alex ...priceless information .....great camera work ! thank you for what you do for our hobby !!!
Those books are priceless.
I think the first thing you should do when you start collecting, is buying these books as refererence.

So tough that I won’t even approach it. On to other things.
Thank you both Alex and Dave for this type of content, it's what's needed to help us collectors.
I have some rounder knights crosses to sell. Funny when they "authenticate" them in their own books.
Alex PLEASE do a video on fake helmet decals especially SS decal tans helmets
Dude, getting better and better. Great content and what I want to see!!!!!
Thank you man!

This stuff is a minefield if you don’t study it properly.
I didn’t dare to buy anything German yet because I don’t know enough about it.
This is golden mine to learn . Dave helped me a lot

You have to do comparison !! 😊
i'd like to know who makes the fakes.
This would have been a really helpful post if you had a real to compare to a fake

Or are they made of 2 pieces?
As a "collector" I've had my share of conversation pieces, often off ebay.
Every item that is collectible is subject to being copied and that includes Native American spear points arrowheads and pottery.
