Some day, when ALL the other house remodeling projects are done, (😁), it might help to encase your old bathtub planters in stone to create a bit of a temperature shift buffer for the plant roots. When those old cast iron tubs heat up it is tough to cool them back down. Just a thought?

Where the door is to be filled in could you make a shelving unit to balance the wood store the other side of the fire place. Looking at the chimney breast painted white it looks beautiful. Have you considered painting the inside of the fireplace deep plum which would set off the woodburner beautifully. 😊 Live your woodburner with the little oven on top.
@FincaLife maybe a contrasting colour that still makes it stand out - like black. The black would match with the light & the fireplace itself. A vibrant coloured rug on the floor in front of the fire would add a definite pop of colour as well. Add in a timber & black metal frame table between the easy chairs to rest a cuppa (or a nice cold beer) on to complete the room.

Have you thought about leaving the mantle white, with the rest in the plum? It'd look good with that little bit of difference.
We have and still not sure yet. It would be nice to do something different with the mantle
