Revuelto review (and a hybrid Lamborghini you HAVEN'T heard of) | Henry Catchpole -The Driver’s Seat

  • Golden hour in Tuscany with a new Lamborghini Revuelto is truly something to be savoured. Although… there is the nagging thought that the addition of some electric motors to the quintessential naturally aspirated V12 might spoil the party. Yes, a combined 1001bhp should be enough to overcome the extra weight of a hybrid system and ensure the Revuelto’s 1772kg (3907lb - dry weight) feels quick in a straight line, but can the promises of torque vectoring really do much to help in the corners?
Certainly there is no outward lack of drama. This particular car is in Giallo (yellow) Countach, which, although gorgeous, is perhaps a little too Corvette for comfort. However, the sensational scissor doors are present and correct, the hexagonal exhausts are mounted high and the V12 is left al fresco for maximum visual impact. Does the Revuelto look like it costs £450,000 or $600,00? Yes, absolutely.
But back to the hybrid, because we know that’s still a concern for many. But Henry Catchpole has a history lesson that might put some minds a little more at ease. Because this is not the first hybrid Lamborghini - and we’re not talking about the Sian. A trip to the Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum near Bologna reveals myriad marvels from the engineer’s mind (did you know he designed a helicopter?) but it is his earliest creation that is of interest to us.
Without wishing to give too much away, the Revuelto is remarkable. But, ignoring money for a moment, which hybrid supercar would you choose to drive if someone opened the hypothetical keybox? A Ferrari SF90? A McLaren Artura? The new Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid? Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray? Let us know in the comments.

He brings the car and the experience to life, he explains to the unconvinced and excites those who dream of ever buying one..or even sitting in one. Off the bat, I know the Revuelto will be much more refined, but we need to know how they compare as the Lamborghini driver experience.

Video is amazing as always, very cinematic but writing …
“Japanese concept of Ma”, i had to google that. Then there was a novel of.. I forgot who in Aston Martin video but so many nods to past (“ridding the sill”) or art, poetry or even cooking ( licking the Chiron). There is no at least car channel that puts so much effort into their videos as Evo or Carfection or Hagerty ( which one is it).
Funny that such passion is somewhat wasted on modern cars with desktops and electric motors.

Both, the Lamborghini Revuelto and this film are a masterpiece.
The Revuelto is a masterpiece of car design, engineering, emotion, and even now practicality and dailiability. It is the physical manifestation of everything that's worth living in life and now, with none of the drawbacks.
As for this film, such greatly presented, such great writing and story telling, such great cinematography it is wonderful.
And as far as I remember all Lambos allow you to rev the engine by just pulling on both paddles, that puts the car into neutral because the people at Lamborghini know that people like to rev Lambos so it's not even missing that button :),

I’m glad they finally go rid of the single clutch and finally put in a DCT. The only single clutch I’ve ever driven was a Ferrari 360 spider. It was terrible both in traffic and normal driving. It only ever smoothed out at nearly full throttle

Another on spot masterpiece by Hagerty and Henry which catches the philosophy and purpose of the Revuelto perfectly. The only sad thing is that most of the owners are full body tattooed rappers who don’t give a thing about the philosophy but rather flexing with it and individualizing it beyond recognition…

My only question is - does the acial flux have a capacitor? And if so did you notice anything at 88 mph?

Well that is *not* what I expected. The ride, the driving dynamics and the feel are not typical Lambo strong points - they always were ok, but more about theatre than dynamics. The 1000 HP seems a bit ridiculous (this produces Veyron numbers!), but the whole package, as you describe it sounds deeply pleasing. Lambo made a dream car for drivers? Who could have guessed!

I will say this about Lamborghini going " Green".
Obviously if your sole purpose is to buy buy a high performance vehicle, that's good for the environment you will settle for a sedan with either a plaid track pack or sapphire.
But that 6 Mile range is not insignificant. Imagine living in the outskirts of a city, wanting to take your Lamborghini to dinner in the city and immediately switching to electric mode once you get off the motorway. Because in something like an event door 6 mi of City driving could very well be a gallon

Based on your ending epilogue about Ma (or empty space), this car then is basically Claude Debussy, who is credited as saying that "Music is the space between the notes".
Well it could certainly be argued that Claude and the Revuelto have musical creation in common.

I was expecting the Matt Monro to cue in as you said "on days like these" as you drive into the sunset on a mountain road. I was a bit disappointed 😂. Great film as always though.

Ah, Henry, you forgot several more nods to another company. For instance, the cup holders on the passenger side. Taken from Porsche's garbage skip after they binned the brilliant system on the 997 and 991 for the horrific cubby in 992. The materials are also nod to Porsche. Corsa-tex aka. Race-tex, as well as Grigio Silver stitching. aka. Silver Grey, much like ones you can get from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. You can also get your Revuelto in a colour called Verde Viper. Or Viper Green in Porschespeak, one of the PTS colour which was introduced alongside Signal Orange and Royal Purple on the 1973 911s, famously the Carrera RS 2.7.

The only problem with the Revuelto is that Carwow put it up recently against the SF90 & the F296. It strugged against the baby Ferrari F296 and was trounced comprehensively by the SF90...
