Despite her powers and abilities, Buffy was still just a kid at the end of the day. A little girl. The people around her rarely put into consideration the trauma and horror and pain that Buffy faces almost daily. This was heartbreaking.
That is so true after she comes back in the next season and people can’t understand fathom how she’s traumatized and haunted. Especially Xander god he pissed off in the scene where he threatened Buffy. I’ll admit it was the heat of the moment but still
What is so distressing about the Slayer mythology is that the women have no control of their future as their lives are at risks to protect humanity. Especially when a hero as young as Buffy is prophesied to die, we would choose our humanity over our destiny. But we will see Buffy being selfless again and again throughout the show's run for the people she loves. She always fights the good fight and has been resurrected twice, for Christs sake!
In all my time of loving this beautiful show, I have never really understood the dark grisly nature of the Slayer mythology. Sarah's acting nails us right in the heart as Buffy's distress at her violent end shows how she wants to abandon her calling but after seeing the traumatic attack on fellow students and how it hurts Willow, Buffy proves what a hero is by facing the monster to make certain they will never rise or cause harm. Not bad for a 90s show first season finale.
@@LeoP2008 Even worse, the Slayer mythology is dictated by the Watchers Council, a organisation predominantly male, have no interest in the Slayer's lives and are more than happy to throw these young girls at their most vulnerable into the lions den for the sake of humanity. That changes with Giles and the father daughter relationship with Buffy. He takes her best interests at heart, allowing her a public education, family and friendships and a social life on top of saving the world from evil 24/7 365.
Scream Queen 👑 Nope Guess what? Don't care about this either because I have a life and it doesn't revolve around this stupid TV show so Don't send me any clips from This Ep either because I do not care about you or what you think of me
“Giles, I’m sixteen-years-old... I don’t wanna die...” that never DOESN’T get me...

This scene was so heartbreaking. The acting, the feeling. It really hit hard and deep
She's the Slayer, but she's also a teenage girl, teenage girl comes first.

Even after all these years, still heartbreaking to watch 😩

I always liked that exchange between them:
Willow: "Buffy, what are we going to do?"
Buffy: "What we have to!"
This is just sad
2:03 ‘read me the signs (throws books at Giles) tell me my fortune’ just brings me to tears
In writing there's a very fine line between Poignant and cloying but they really nailed it with this scene. This is very poignant!
'til today this is so hard to watch
It's so easy to just see Buffy as this super-powered hero but, in scene, we're reminded....she's just a kid at this point.
This episode right here above so much else points out just how evil the watchers truly were.

This episode and this moment was probably one of the best of the series. It makes me cry everytime. Sarah should have one an award.
All these years gone and I still can’t get over this show
I truly believe this is a TURNING point scene in the show. After this it was a trailblazer
I remember watching this 10 years old in 1997, i watched it a couple of months ago and balled my eyes out, beautiful show i miss it😢
In that moment you could see that Giles cared for her more than a “ watcher “ he literally was gonna go face the master Himself forgod sake !!!!
The first season is pretty rough compared to the rest of the series, but this is the scene when I realized how good the show could be.
