Absolutely... and it tended to come from other ethnic groups that had racial consciousness or hard gang activity like Hispanics and blacks. I remember ducking between alleyways trying to avoid eye contact and stay well out of sight of those groups where I grew up in Chicago. I'd seen way too many friends either get recruited or roughed up when walking too close to them or going down the wrong alley. Especially with many radical groups appearing this day attacking people of other religions, so it is not entirely safe. I'm an Asian and Filipino. I have a few theories why no one was courageous enough to help him. One of which is the fact that the attacker is black, and the incident took place in one of the most liberal or solid democrat states in America. This has something to do with the stigma left by George Floyd case. People hesitate to stop black attackers for fear that the race-obsessed media and liberal society might turn them into racist.

It made me burst into tears watching Noel revisiting that horrible experience in a controlled and calm way. Even though he was the one who suffered the most, he’s still soft-spoken. And he went on to advocate for awareness publicly for other people in the community. He has a heart of gold
What is truly the most painful is that he says "if it's just me then it's fine, but if it were the people I live with (his wife, children, parents etc) then he trails off to imply that it would ruin him. He is essentially devaluing himself and says if it's him he can take the abuse, but please do not put that on his family. What really pisses me off is no one is recognizing this, they just take this sacrificial sentiment as a given because he was born a man, and to be a man is to put everyone but yourself first. It is not something that is a "given", it is not something that is or should be implicit to the male gender, what he did was courageous and powerful and this fact about him should be celebrated and cherished more openly. He thinks this way because he loves his family more than he could ever love himself, if that isn't powerful then nothing else on earth could be such.
For this man to forgive his attacker is jaw dropping. The ability for Filipinos to show love and kindness never ceases to amaze me. I'm from Hk and we are lucky to have so many kind and wonderful ladies help look after our elderly ( including my own mother). My heartfelt thanks.
I’m sad and terrified. Will it be my grandparents next? My parents? My siblings? Me? I’m glad the issue is being brought to light. I walked on the street on San Francisco one day, I saw a senior couple just walking on the street, and I can't help to start to worry about them. They are like the same age like my grandma and grandpa , and they are exactly like those silver aged asian who have been attacked, the target.. I suddenly realize how pathetic this is, I never thought that our situation would be like this in United States one day. We all know that Asians are by far the most racist group on the planet, though. It seems to me that Asians are only outraged at racism when it's them receiving the racism. The default should be to repudiate all racism, not just when it is against your group.
Most people before coming to America have a very rosy view of the country because of media. It always show the great cities, the lives of the rich and famous, and even when there is crime, it's glorified in a way that makes it "great" and exciting.
I'm so sorry to this sweet man Noel. The rest of us need to stand up for those who can't defend themselves. I'm a woman in my 60's and will take a stand!
@Paul Revere probably because school teaches you that self defense will have consequences
I’m mixed black and Asian. And honestly it’s almost like bad things just keep coming for both sides. If I’m not worried about one of my cousins getting killed for no reason I’m worried my grandmother will be pushed down while walking on the street.
It makes me so sick elders are getting attacked. If only Americans could learn half of the respect Asians give to their elders...ugh!
Same blasian as well. Young cousin killed and now I have to worry about my grandmother too. Where is the compassion?
@Bodoy Bodoy I think you misunderstand the original comment. I think he means he has to worry about both his Asian and black family members that can get potentionally get killed or attacked. He never mentions Asians retaliating or anything like that.

Hello yarkroo
My grandparents and my older aunts and uncles are afraid to go to their morning walks. I see a little bit of my uncle in Noel and it disgusts me that no one helped him when he needed it most
@@BemaBeams I'd never let my grandparents go on walk by themselves during these crazy times
Yeah, my entire family is scared of going out nowadays. Especially now considering how blatantly aggressive these shitheads are attacking Asians, I honestly feel worried for my grandparents.
Born and currently living in one of the Asian country. When I was a kid, I dreamt of going to USA for a job or vacation because of the good things that I'd seen on TV and internet. But after graduating from college and experience to work with them, I just got humiliation, verbal abuse, and racism which I think is I don't deserved. Because I know that I'm professional and know how to adapt. I'm not generalizing all people in USA though. Good thing I was able to get out of that situation. Watching this kind of news would make me not recommend that country to my group of friends that are planning have a trip or start their carreer there.
lots of racists in the US. It was based on racism and still takes time for that mentality to disappear. There was still segregation in the 60s.
i feel like this is a lie. Why are there plenty of Asians who love USA and live here fine? lol just cause you had a bad experience doesnt mean everyone does. get real buddy

To all Americans: I am a Korean Adoptee. I came here at the age of 1. I've spent my entire life here in the US. I've made friends here, I've made a family here. I've gone to school here. I live here. I came to this country legally through the adoption program, I got my HSD in 2006, I served 8 years in The US Marine Corps, I fought for three years to prove my citizenship after a clinical error left me as a non-citizen, I pay my taxes, I had gotten married here, I'm currently working towards my college degree in nursing, I work taking care of those with mental afflictions.....What more do you want from me to prove that I'm an American and that I have not only earned my place to be called an American, but I have the right to be here. Because I'm out of ideas.
To bluntly answer you...your race. I do apologize but I have a similar background except for the U.S military service and adoption. I've been an RN for almost 18 years, worked harder than a lot of my colleagues to provide the best care I can. But I will always be viewed as a "foreigner" whether I'm at work or in everyday life. It's sad but it's reality.
Same here. Born in mongolia. Got here when i was 16 in 09. Served for 6 years in the army. Currently in nursing school as well.
