Something that shouldn't exist, that no biological evolution could produce. The way it had arms that did nothing but hold up it's own head because it didn't have the structural support to hold itself up was a really clever touch. My absolute favourite shot is at 18:25. To elaborate; I love how the situation between the two characters creates a NECESSARY dialog that delivers exposition. It doesn't feel fake. She literally didnt know she was human so he had to break down why her being a synth was bullshit and the purpose she serves in the facility is ANOTHER brilliant way to elaborate on the purpose of the facility. The monster was horrendous, the actions of the mining facility were horrendous, and the payoff once she's secure is immensely satisfying because of this. That sec guard makes you feel for him by redeeming himself for the sins of himself and his company in that self-sacrifice. Brilliantly done for 20 minutes of film, and I'm SO excited to see the continuing success of this awesome studio. :D Now if only I could act for one of the shorts. Yay pipe dreams, lol...
I didn't like how the dialogue in Firebase broke down the mystery behind it, the explanation also seemed out-of-place because it was mostly based off of speculation and theories. The intelligence advisor also didn't seem the type to conclude the far-fetched reasons given for the situation, much less believe them with enough certainty to not question or mention different hypotheses or rumors.

BiG effin' kudos to Dakota Fanning! Where've you been, girl?! But why didn't her character try cutting the damn thing's head off!? Come on, give us some hope that she'd survive by overriding the door's unlock from the inside, at least. I mean, that creature's got A LOT of fingers to try :|
Woody Williams I heard the soldier say earlier on that one of the things used multiple rat brains so I assume that it'd be like a hangover, little bit of memory loss but still has a lot to work with
most safe doors can only be opened once through traditional mediums, then they get reprogrammed, so at least it would take te zygote a lot of time to find a way in
Astaroth Belial Agraz - SPOILERS: Unless the CFO Kevin Bateman is the *only* executive that's been absorbed by The Creature with a Thousand Everythings pursuing our not-so-synthetic Synthetic, it wouldn't be a wild leap that another one of its fingers would open the vault just as readily. Unless the corporation were sooo evil that the Executive Vault is first-come-only-served :P Jokes aside, the conference table, with many chairs, inside the vault seems to hint that the vault was meant to be accessed by more absorbables (or is it 'absorbibles') than than CFO.
mrmonkeyman652: The creature's obviously moved onto human physiology from meager rat brains. That's a lot of knowledge it's assimilated and a lot of fingers to try too -- just like it did when it pursued our duo through the airlock from outside.
There was a lot of hurried dialogue - she might've simply initiated a lock. A quarantine lock, security lock, who knows. We don't see much but she seems smart enough to figure out how to lock the door. I think her bigger concerns are the fact that a piece of it is inside the vault, and it stabbed her in the leg. Presumably its infected her, in which case she better cut out her eyes and soon - and that might not help in any case. We also might have an evil dead scenario where that hand could unlock the door. That.... and has anyone considered that maybe she's not the only person in there? Survivors 2, 98 dead. Presumed dead? And what if survivors 2 means there are two people in that airlock. A lot to consider beyond it getting through the door.
Yeah this reminded me of the monster of the Transformers movies. Not the monster IN the Transformers movies mind you. But the idea that a beloved series could be blended together into a horrifying homogeneous mass. All creativity and meaning rendered down and mutated into a loud, senseless abomination who's individual parts may seem familiar enough to pass as something made by a human, but the collective whole is nothing but a screaming, pitiable horror who only exists as a warning for others. It screams: "Do not make the same mistakes as my creator. Do not commit the same atrocities as Michel Bay has done with his film-making."
I was on my toe the whole entire time watching this episode!!! Seriously this one is even better than so many movies out there from Hollywood!! The quality between this episode and the episode about chef and kitchen was like heaven and earth!!

+TheInsomniaddict Yup, a decent fingerprint scanner would have detected that that finger was dead and refused entry. Then again; they might have relaxed those restrictions after some folks with frostbite unsuccessfully tried to enter the base, and froze to death outside. So there's a plausible explanation.

This is just SICK! To be clear: I mean that in a good way. The isolation factor of "The Thing" combined with the creepy and unnerving creature design of "The Forest," with a little dystopian class rivalry thrown in to boot, it's a fuggin' brilliant concept. But what stuck out to me the most was that corrupting light thing, where dude talks about splitting open a rock and seeing a light that made him immediately cut out his own eyes, as though he'd born witness to true, absolute evil... that put me in mind of Warhammer 40K, and that is ALWAYS a good thing for me! I love stories that blend sci-fi with the metaphysical to create incomprehensible horror. Great film! PLEASE expand this!
I absolutely love how this is a big ''fuck you'',from Bloomkamp, to 20th Century Fox & R.Scott, for shutting down his Alien project. I really hope, this story will be continued.
What I love about this is that it takes the juicy climax of any great sci-fi film and makes that the entire piece. Even leaving space to weave in some lore and implied backstory. Absolute fucking A+++. Both actors were amazing.

The Quartz reminds me of the Lith from Eisenhorn, and also the Marker from Dead Space. In general I love the idea of a creepy bit of stone getting the need to reanimate corpses and perform body horror. Especially as the body in this case is so...distinct.
My thoughts exactly. I saw the bit about The Quartz and thought of Magos Bure and his fight against the Lith. That was when I realized how badass the Adeptus Mechanicus can be. This creature reminds me a bit of Armsy from "The Forest."
@@flynnt77OMG, someone else actually read those books. Wished Malleus was a bit better over all but the Lith section was crazy good. Bure was the perfect introduction to the Mechanicus for new readers.
@@solizwei4458 I like Hereticus the most out of the three books. I actually read it first, since I found a copy of it abandoned in an airport smoking lounge and thought the cover art looked cool. That fact makes his ultimate fate that much more unfortunate. Pontius Glaw was one ungrateful bastard, to put it mildly.
I'm still astounded by the quality of this film. It does what all of the very best fantasy and sci-fi films do- it gives you just enough information to become immersed in a different world without spelling every detail out. It allows its audience to be intelligent enough to fill in the details. And the monster, wow! I haven't seen such a genuinely frightening and unique design since The Ritual. Masterfully done. Thank you!

Am I the only one that thinks this was supposed to be part of what happened in the continuation of Aliens which Neil had already began writing??? Newt and Hicks.. Hicks' injury (minus the visions and story line) Neil was inspired by the idea of a young girl relying on the blinded soldier and him relying on her ability to see.
richard lacey Wow yeah that's a great point. Would have loved to see Blomkamp's version of Alien. That whole universe is perfect for him. That combination of sci-fi/ military
Overall the creature isn't too much of a threat once the initial "omfg wtf" moment wears off, sure being alone and unarmed is bad, but they already downed it twice with simple firearms, so for sequels there isn't really anywhere to go imo, you can't really increase the scope without becoming goofy (you'd need a lot of plot convenience for a group of trained and armed marines to be dumb enough to get killed by that thing for example) and you can't really do the same thing again without being boring.
If only it was possible to make a compelling movie which was driven by characters and personal stakes. If only there was some way to write good suspenseful horror films with solid plots and good framing. Even if the antagonist was a known quantity with the right adaptation they could be like "The Thing" or "Jurassic Park" or "Terminator". Unfortunately we will never see such a film. Although Paranormal activity 29 is coming out soon...
Dakota Fanning appearing in this really makes me think that she was Neill's choice to play newt in his planned alien film. She would be such a great choice (either her or Chloe Grace moretz for me)
She gave an amazing acting performance here, not even with a lot of dialogue or words but the frightened expressions and physical acting. A lot of these type of movies have the characters acting either unrealistically confident or comically screaming or something, this seemed more like how an actual person would react and behave in that situation.

Jesus….this had my stress level THROUGH THE ROOF! Aside from being severely creeped out by the creature, the screaming wail that it was emitting, made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. This clocks in at just over 20 minutes: I am not entirely sure I could handle 90+…..
At the very end, I expected the door to say "Authorized"
Yeah, it so unlikely that the creature doesnt have another set of hands with access to the vault. Sorry girl, you're fked.
William Lowry I was expecting by some twist of fate that her own hand had access
Yeah...ditto...kinda upset how we were supposed to be Releaved @ the "ending" but i just treated it as a "clip" TBC
@@omgitsjoetime I expected it too, since the discussion that she wasn't synthetic had been brought up, like Chekov's Gun. But it wasn't used.
@@omgitsjoetime I was "HOPING" that.
Teaser promised me Dead Space, teaser didn't lie. That was super cool.
Creature design was dope. I love how much the creature was clearly an abomination. Something that shouldn't exist, that no biological evolution could produce. The way it had arms that did nothing but hold up it's own head because it didn't have the structural support to hold itself up was a really clever touch.
My absolute favourite shot is at 18:25. That's the kind of shot most directors or editors would not put in. Just nothing but a close-up of her panting for 20 seconds. It really sells how freaked out she is.
Yeah, I'm throwing my money at this. Neill, this is some weird shit, but it's like you looked into my brain and determined the exact flavour of weird sci-fi shit that I like. More please.
Remember you can throw money at it on Steam.
You described it perfectly!
It's literally the opposite of a "perfect organism" and I find that irony delicious since this short provoked in 20 minutes similar amounts of tension I've got from the good old Alien movies... Lovely... Totally delighted
Bruno Teky there was definitely a nod to Aliens with that elevator bit :P

Inside
I really like her CO. He seems like such a good guy...he doesn't give a toss about the labels they've given her that basically label her as expendable. I get the impression that even if he had his eyes & didn't need her help, he'd still try to keep her alive & get her out of there.
It's kinda tragic that (spoiler) near the end his fingerprint doesn't even open the door to the vault. Meaning despite how adaptable, brave and self sacrificing he is his superiors would have left him to die.
@@sicksock435446 hs I didn't even realize that
Idk him not caring about her status is a product of the situation. All his superiors and coworkers are dead so why stick to protocol?
This is absolutely one of the coolest horror movie concepts I've ever seen.
If you know more please recommend something
I can't think of anything that can top this
@@danjx16 Well, I mean I guess it really depends what you're in to. As far as a virus that uses human parts, this pretty much takes the cake. If you're into cursed mirrors causing trouble, I think Oculus takes the cake. A dude that kills you using your nightmares? Nightmare on Elm Street. A horror movie that personifies emotional troubles into a monster? The Babadook. I dunno lol there are a ton of cool concepts out there for horror.

This monster is powerless against FaceID. Thanks Apple.

@@imortalones on one hand, yes. On the other hand, then the monster only needs to find the spare key to get at you. If it finds the lot of them, suddenly you be fecked.
Dakota Fanning! Yes! More Sci-fi Dakota Fanning!
her character was stupid brainless teenager
she's a synthetic person. i'd say she was subservient no brainless. They never said that she is a teenager.
But as they reveal she isn't a synthetic person but a real human raised to believe that she's a synthetic. They are using her as a human canary.
Which is why they're called Canaries...they used canaries back in the days when mining deep underground. If the bird died/was dying it was time to get the fuck up from underground.
@asifur rahman Maybe you should connect the dots and listen to the story before making such rash conclusions.
@shawn n indeed hope to see more of her 😉
Hollywood take note, your looking really scrappy after watching this epic on the tiny screen.
It's on Netflix
Hollywood is too busy with pushing woke agendas to care about making good movies
which films specifically?
Action excitement horror - and no Gay Marxist Hollywood Propaganda.
I've been finding better story telling and shorts on RUclips and from small studios than I have from the movies written by the MBA in marketing (Hollywood). It sucked the only way you find out about some of the smaller studios is by word of mouth or lucking out by finding them on places like Dust, Alter, and other distro channels,
Looking back at Dakota Fanning from War of the Worlds and watching her now in another Sci-Fi films is awesome. She is an amazing actress and I hope to see her in more to come!
I like the monster's painful roar/scream. pure nightmare stuff.
Having it scream simultaneously with the voices of everyone that's a part of it was a brilliant idea.
The monster was definitely inspired by the game "Inside" ruclips.net/video/c3M7QTHV9Pw/видео.html
I just wonder, why does it do what it does? With all those minds inside it, do their consciousnesses remain, or is there one singular will controlling them all? Why is it so hell-bent on assimilating other people, and why would a light coming from a space rock make people create that thing??
I´ll change all the Xmen movies for one full budget, R rated Zygote...
I'll vote for that..

That sound it makes. All i can think of is that that sound is the voice of everyone it has absorbed all simultaneously screaming in agony.
Imagine being absorbed by it, but being aware/conscious on some level still as it continues onward. D:

Dead Space was a mix of The Thing and Event Horizon, to be honest.
With a tiny sprinkle of jurassic park. I got a 'raptors in the kitchen' vibe at 13:24
To elaborate; I love how the situation between the two characters creates a NECESSARY dialog that delivers exposition.
Now if only I could act for one of the shorts. Yay pipe dreams, lol...
No. bad.
your a good critic I thought the same thing.
Yeah he was lying, i thought this was pretty obvious given they inter-cut his story with the shots of the synthetic corpse who was clearly robotic.
Interesting, nice catch if true.
Man this NEEDS to be made into a full length movie pronto, imagine how great this would be as a full movie, and of course have Dakota Fanning playing the lead like in this!

Netflix has bought or developed damn near anything of decent merit, and a shit ton of stuff that has none. So why haven't they greenlit an Oats Studios full length feature? I don't get it. You guys are really good, but still hitting homeruns in the minor league. It makes no sense. Rakka should be your first big budgeted outing. What you've done so far is amazing, and I'm sure Sigourney would reprise her role. Either way, love you guys. Keep it coming, please.
probably wasn't woke enough for neftlix or something
i personally prefer Firebase but anything if they ever produce a full length im sure it will be good i just have to see that River God vs Armor of God its just 2 good not to be made it can even be another short like vol. 2 but that has to happen...

There’s a serious lack of GOOD science-fiction horror projects around these days, and it’s an absolute injustice that this hasn’t been adapted into some form of film or episodic series.

Wow. That Monster Design is one of the best I've seen in the last years.
Loved this! The isolated facility a wonderful bleak throwback to The Thing and Alien, and the creature brilliantly grotesque and I have to know more about it and where it came from and what made those people do that. The cast are well chosen and portray in the limited time layers for their characters that drew me in really quickly. Would love to see this as a full length feature or even a mini series where we see the facility go from bright and clean to the final state we see here and learn bit by bit exactly what befell them all! Great stuff.
Woody Williams I heard the soldier say earlier on that one of the things used multiple rat brains so I assume that it'd be like a hangover, little bit of memory loss but still has a lot to work with
most safe doors can only be opened once through traditional mediums, then they get reprogrammed, so at least it would take te zygote a lot of time to find a way in
Astaroth Belial Agraz - SPOILERS:
Unless the CFO Kevin Bateman is the *only* executive that's been absorbed by The Creature with a Thousand Everythings pursuing our not-so-synthetic Synthetic, it wouldn't be a wild leap that another one of its fingers would open the vault just as readily. Unless the corporation were sooo evil that the Executive Vault is first-come-only-served :P
Jokes aside, the conference table, with many chairs, inside the vault seems to hint that the vault was meant to be accessed by more absorbables (or is it 'absorbibles') than than CFO.
mrmonkeyman652: The creature's obviously moved onto human physiology from meager rat brains.
The creature's design is just fucking awesome looking. Michael Bay, eat your heart out.
Tyler White because Michael Bag is known for his creature designs

The Angry Korean hahahaa!
If they're willing to skimp out on synths, I suspect they're fine going with cheap elevators. Same with Biometrics. It honestly should've locked out after 3-5 unsuccessful attempts, but that's what you get when you go with cheap outsourcing.
+The Angry Korean
You know what that scene lacked? The music of Mass Effect 1 elevators. It would have been hilarious! XD
I believe those are called "Ridleyvators".
So i am a huge horror fanatic and this short film was just the best horror film that i have seen in years!! You guys have to make this short into a full movie, i would watch it in an instant!! I really enjoyed this short film great work and please never stop!!!!

@@driftermorshu5397 I read it on Wikipedia about this film.
It was the first 40K novel I ever read, so yeah, I'm a bit biased. As for Geard Bure, I agree. He was actually a likeable character, which I now know is quite uncommon for the Mechanicus. That fact makes his ultimate fate that much more unfortunate. Pontius Glaw was one ungrateful bastard, to put it mildly.
i really hope this gets some prime time and gets a full length treatment it deserves it! absolutely amazing

Jack Williams the one reborn
i cant belive it took me 4 years to stumble across this channel, what an absolute gem
Would love to see this as a full-length feature, fleshing out the back-story and potentially even leading to sequels. Needs to be done!
She would be such a great choice (either her or Chloe Grace moretz for me)
oh to think of what could have been...
For real, they even have a young Michael Biehn (Cpl. Hicks- Aliens) lookalike in their Firebase vid, also Sigourney Weaver in Rakka.
She gave an amazing acting performance here, not even with a lot of dialogue or words but the frightened expressions and physical acting. A lot of these type of movies have the characters acting either unrealistically confident or comically screaming or something, this seemed more like how an actual person would react and behave in that situation.
This features one of the most disgusting, horrifying and original sci-fi creature I have ever seen!! :D Well Done!!
