I've never heard of elective induction , though. Those doctors are being very unethical if they allow that. The only time an induction happens is when the baby is due but the mother's body is not kickstarting the process or when the baby's life might be endangered by being in there for too long.
That ambulance thing cost a colleague of mine who was visiting in the US $2000. Her daughter fainted in Central Park and an ambulance was called, and the mom ended up with that huge bill.
