Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

My guess is that given the ground was frozen during construction the electrician couldn't bury the power cable properly, so as you were snow pushing you either broke the cable or pulled the wire out of the sockets.
Haha
I don’t have that problem here in Beautiful sunny hot Australia
I'm glad you talked about safety today. Whenever we went to a farm auction, my dad would point out the old farmers with missing fingers or other appendages as a lesson to me about safety on the farm. It was a poignant reminder of just how dangerous the farm could be and how safety was our watchword.
My dad always claimed 90 percent of those old farmers lost their limbs in Corn Pickers
We had a neighbour who lost part of a leg in a combine. My wife worked at the local hospital before she retired. Their biggest group for the ED was forestry and agriculture, and they were serious injuries. I can remember one man who was trapped for hours under a rolled tractor. He was alive when his wife found him, but he later died.
Yep when I was young I remember the family we got eggs from, the old boy had lost A arm in-between the elbow and the wrist, my dad said he got it caught in A hey bailer.
It was a hard fall for combining beans here too. Had one of our customers wait for us to combine his beans and all the high ground had already sheld out. 0 yield on the hill.
“I even come up with my own little farmer outfits.” 😂😂😂
To summerise the saftey issue with the open conveyer, if its moving say away from it.
Doesn't matter how big or small machines. Take the shaft petruding from the bearing block at 2:54,. While it is moving relatively slowly and looks pretty harmless it is possible it could grab your hair and pull it out.
I don’t consider myself a city person but I’m trapped here, probably for years, but watching your show sure does pick up my spirit, god bless you and your family
The comments on here remind me that it’s always easier to run the neighbors farm then your own
@@kellyjackson2796 i come from a long line of farmers and am quite familiar with it……and anything is better than living next to the darkens that dont taise their children, the child raping cAtholics and the tyrant loving uk monarchists known as the episcopalians
Thanks for teaching safety got 4 children. On the farm here
Thanks for occasionally bringing up the safety issues around the farm. So very important!
When our kids were young we always stressed " Think before you do ".
I didn't realize how much of an impact that made on them until a couple of years ago while having problems with the corn head plugging I bailed out of the cab in frustration and started rolling under the head to try and figure it out. My youngest son was riding with me and proceeded to give me one dandy of a butt chewing for not putting in the safety stop.
Well deserved I might add and I thanked him for it later.
Could have been a bad day......only because I was in a hurry, and didn't think before I did some thing really stupid.
Your a number 1 Dad!!! For most people it very hard to Amit they are doing something wrong. Even harder to admit to your son or daughter that they were correct and then commend them for stopping you when they saw you doing something unsafe. They understood the decision you were making would have dangerous and very bad consequences had something gone awry. Teaching your kids to speak up is fantastic!! 😊
Gday Zach, how's your winter? Our summer in Australias been alright, we've had two big fires but nothing much.
Cheers
You did perfectly right with the settings on the combine - bring it home and deal with it later. For what other reason do we have cleaning equipment built into our on-farm-facilities! Seeds do better in the bin than on the ground. Correct decision!
Get it onyx!!! Show your dad how to wheel a mod!
Props on the safety tip … best wishes and thank you
its always a great start or end to a day when zach posts
Personally im still waiting for the Simply Safe Episode "Lonely House Wife Edition" (Part 2). As Jeff Foxworthy would say apart of his show...."I'm in love with your wife and she's carrying my baby!!" Nothing beats a good youtube cinematic drama!! Beats Soap Operas anyday!! 😊😊
Seems as if someone must have accidentally dug up or cut some of the wrong wires. Must have been the dogs 😂
Agreed
@@scottwenger7577 Most likely, mine used to eat my home work.
Entertaining for sure.
Great safety reminder, made me think of "The Harmless Farmer," Andy, may he R.I.P.
I REALLY appreciate that safety plug for the grain chute Zack!! Especially geared toward the younger farmers out there. They might be more inclined to listen to you. You may have just saved a life or two there. Good on ya!! I personally enjoy all of your explanations. You make sense. Why cater to belts just because they are below zero degrees with snow on them?? (belt life) Thanks for another great, informative and interesting video. And thanks for attempting to return MY flag to the church. I spent some time serving her..
Great for you to give the safety advice regarding the open conveyor. 👍
How old are your pups now Zack cus we had to put our King Shep down because his hips got so bad I had to make a sling to carry him out to do bathroom at 14 yrs old and it just killed me so I rescued another dog right away I can't live without a best friend. I pray yours live long man it is the saddest thing to lose them, especially with kids. Bless yall family~Winter has finally hit us in Ontario and I LOVE it =) Ice fishing soon I hope its been so mild lake is just not safe yet but we can sled now Yah~~
Nice
Onyx rising up.
I look forward to the next videos.
Drill a small hole at ground level of the church flag pole so the water runs out. I had to do that on one I installed, worked great!
You were talking about potentially getting caught in the conveyor and I’m reminded when my dad was loading trucks in the winter while I was in high school
I get home see the tandem sitting there and think nothing of it cause we moved grain in winter. Guess dad(who was not a walking knowledge of safety statistics) was shoveling the box full. He was notorious for trying to get every last hour possible out of winter work clothes and since it was a shoveling job he didn’t need a coat that wasn’t tore up (after all shoveling gets you hot and this jacket had the perfect amount of “breathable” material across his back.
What he didn’t realize was the flappy part of his jacket was fluttering dangerously close to the bearing at the top of the old 13 inch Sukundiak grain auger. When it grabbed him and wound him in like a walleye on the line it pinned him down face first in the grain bin and snuffed the auger engine out. The only way he could get out of it (cause it sucked his undershirt into as well) was to get his jack knife out and cut his clothes off till he was free....., half naked...., in -40....., but free none the less.
I’ll never forget dad stumbling into the house froze bluer than a smurf with no shirt on
He always told me “smartest thing I’ve ever did was not hook up the PTO drive auger that day”
That and buying a new coat tge next day lol
Seems as if someone may have dug up or cut the wrong wires. Must have been the dogs 😂
Yes everyday
Zach I would guess you hooked the power supply line while pushing snow
I watched a video yesterday that was saying the company that makes the Big Bud line of tractors is gonna start producing tractors again. Their goal is to produce a big tractor that the buyer can work on themselves. If I remember right, it will be the Big Bud 660 and they will have a demo ready in March.
Even without polishing the tanks and wheels, it's a completely different truck. Get the stainless polished and it'll be a real goin' to town rig lol.
Thanks for bringing up safety. Safety is a serious thing. To much, and you get complacent. Too little and you get complacent. Making situational awareness a habit is best. A healthy respect for stored energy is another important issue. Whether it is a cable under tension or a lifted load. Stored energy can be a killer.
Great comment about safety. Everything done on a farm can be dangerous and have very bad outcomes. Its all part of the life and just needs to always be in the back of the mind. Not easy to get the message across to children. Just look at the life cycle of cats and dogs, most never get to old age, can’t be helped just is what happens. You are doing an important service with all the bin safe messages. Thank you, take care and God bless.
The safety note is very true. There were several older farmers in my area with missing fingers and eye patches. My father made sure I was as safe as possible.
Safety reminders are always a good idea. Complacency on a farm is asking for trouble
Kudos to the camera crew! Excellent footage!
We have the same flag pole at the cottage, which we had a screw pile installed to hold. It gets put away and a plastic water bottle caps the pipe for the winters up here in Nova Scotia where water freezes at ZERO! Lol. Thanks for sharing and your wife is a good editor
Im glad I became a member of your channel when I watch your videos it takes me back to when I was a kid working on farms
What jobs have you done on the farm before?
I’m guessing you took something out with the snow pusher😂
I’m going to guess you hit some sort of power line that feeds the power to your shop with the plow lol either way another great video and I love the call out on onyx for driving a car next year that’s funny
❤ the safety call outs for kids that live on a farm and also those that may be visiting.
Sir you are one of the few that actually talk seriously about safety, I understand the normal joking around with buddies like safety 3rd but you are a wonderful spokesperson about machine safety and vehicle safety. You are always speaking of bin safety and operation. I look forward to watching your videos. Great Job!
I’m guessing you snagged the power line to the new building, probably plowing
Let's get Zack to 1,000,000. Only 13,000.left to go.
In California chilly and shivering when Zach walks across the snow. Memories of having to work in those conditions near the Arctic circle. Long time ago! Why I live in LA!
“That some good wind packed snow right there. OPE fell through!” 😂
Snow ... don't miss it. Good video.
I hope Oynx gets behind the wheel. Gotta start them young now days.
Caught a glimpse again of that old square body in the new shop. Let’s see that truck sometime!
kinda bittersweet seeing your church closed. I k
now its because they are fewer farmers, bigger farms. Like seeing it being cared for anyway. Kudos!
I'm pretty sure it was officially closed years ago. Also, I think its denominational affiliation may have played a role as well. They've been losing members and congregations at a high rate for over a decade.
I would buff the rims and tanks,It would look great with the shiny cab too
I know things get slower in the winter as far as producing videos for us subscribers .... but rest assured, even City folks miss the millennial farmer when he slows down offering videos. I have moved over to "Between-the-Rows" to try and fill the gap, but it's not quite the same. Just thought I'd let you know. John from Louisville.
I manage a grain elevator in Southern Illinois, we had a lot of soybean pods this year as well. It is causing us the same reclaim issues that you experienced. Just something we deal with... You can keep the snow!
aaahhh ok now i understand why so much FM is in that grain bin Thanks for clearing that up Zach
Watching this from outback Australia at 2am where is is 31degrees C (87F). A bit hard to comprehend how cold it must be in Minnesota at the moment.
don’t worry about the pods, we had a dry year in nebraska And it was very hard to combine beans and thin flat pods we did the same thing you did I have a friend who works at an elevator and it didn’t matter what kind of combine people had unless it was irrigated beans everyone had a lot of pods this year
Love unity family 🙏❤️🙏
I think you did the best with what you had to work with
Maybe you add two more couplers on the outside for the case that you have no tractor inside that building on the bad day where you did blow all the fuses or where some other dropped the power.
It’s hard to comprehend the snow and how cold it is for you guys there whilst we are sitting in 40 degree Celsius temperatures surrounded in dust
I'm always excited when you upload! Much love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Great show..nice touch to see an old church in the video. God bless.
Zach, I hope i'm not alone in wishing you would show a bit of the "admin" side I'd love to know the ins and outs of how you and your dad determine which field gets what seeds etc. I really enjoyed it when you had the specialists out talking about corn etc.
Me. Myself. And I my shadow. And my conscience. You have a good filming crew. Dogs are the best help.
I love this channel because I grow up in Ireland and I never get to see things like this
I've been thinking about putting up a new storage shed for my equipment and was talking to a local Powerlift door company and got a price and they are quite reasonably priced for what size the door is.
THe door is perfect so you won't have any trouble. Keep up the good work.
The new shed is amazing! Best to you and yours this year, see you next video!
Great safety tips Zach. For the people that follow you on other socials we know that semi has some good looking wheels now
With the potential he shows in the cart I sure hope he gets behind the wheel of the mod. He could definitely go places and maybe even gives his dad a run for his money.
Mrs. Millenial Farmer does your makeup and dresses you don't lie.
On the bean pods, what can you do? Beans are tough, especially in the northern plains.
Another awesome video from you guys, thanks and keep them coming soon. 👍
Great video Zach loved it stay blessed
Great safety advice and would love to see Onyx in a race car
Drill a hole at the bottom of the flagpole in the water drain out it'll never fill up every once in a while you're at the unstop it God bless
Put in a flagpole a la Captain America...hinged and bolted at the base.
No ice/water problems.
Zach, not sure how your sumps are configured, but we used Tepee shaped object that fastened where the sweep did over the sump that kept the sump clear to keep running until the buildup or clumps were gone
Stay safe
I haven’t been watching this channel for long, but I really look forward to getting new videos, keep up the great work. X
Drill a hole at the bottom of the flag pole and or rotory cloths line to let all water out,. also helps them rusting from the inside out.
I can't wait till you back the planter out of shed! Long winter
I got stuck in a silo once when I was a kid. Was the scariest thing I have experienced.
How did you get out?
Zach we need some snowmobiling footage !!!!
it’s just so relaxing and warm to watch these kind of videos, for me it’s like watching cat videos, puts me in the most calm mood, great video! 🌸
9:AM -13° F a hour and a half north of Zach
So there
Snow and cold ... the MN of my childhood 🙂
The one degree of global warming doesn't feel much better in the winter.
Zach, maybe a lexan see through cover over the conveyor. Strong but you can watch the flow
I’m so proud of your dad that he is trying a Dodge nice truck love your from
Zack always good to see a video of you and your families life on the farm. Yes, there is always something to do. I hope Oynx gets his feet wet driving a full size car this coming season. It will be a real eye opener from the go cart, and much more adjustability than the cart, to make it drive like you want it too. I will be checking out the other channel, as Unusually do. Take care and keep them coming, Zack and Becky!😊😊
Great video. I always enjoy them. Thank you to you and Becky, Zach, for videoing them, and you, Becky, for editing them.
Always enjoy watching. You share alot of topics I find interesting.
Love that little church.
Go for it Onyx !
You are the best !
Thank god the days are getting longer.
Can use a log splitter engine and pump to raise the door. They’re actually super power full
Of course it's colder. without clouds to hold in the heat, it escapes up and away leaving things colder.
Another good vid - thanks for emphasizing the farmyard safety.
Winter is great if you're an ice fisherman, skier, or snowmobiler. But if you work outdoors with equipment, everything is harder.
Ana is almost ready for her ride!
Shining up the chrome might seem like vanity, but it is really preventative maintenance and preserving what you have. When that rust starts its like a cancer.
I would put some roofing tin (at an angle) over that bottom metal support on the door, so I would never have to shovel snow off of it before raising it.
What did you do run over the extension cord to your new building plowing snow? Love the videos. Really will be interesting seeing dad and son on the track next summer, hope the kid goes for it!
I was thinking along the same lines, but think he did it pulling the grain cart when it was stuck for the tenth time.
Just wanted to add a second comment. As soneone with hearing issues, I don't know what mic or how Becky does your audio work but it is fantastic. a good bit of time I do not need to have CC on to understand you, which is always nice since it tends to block any comments from the editor!
Love the safety tip for the kids and heck with every one's comments do what's u thinks best for ur operation. That truck does look 👍🏼
That was very nice of you to plow out the church. That is a nice semi looks good.
Getting close to that promised tractor ride
Well - this will ruin my first 10 min of the last duck hunt of the year. ..it’s worth it. I need to hear about those beans!
If I had to guess on why the new shop door wouldn’t open. Someone/Mr. Millennial farmer hit the power wires when he was moving snow.
I enjoy the shots of the square toed doofus boots.
