    decoding the universe and society of my hero academia to how its represented in our real world, scary as it is...
    The ultimate analysis video on Boku no Hero Academia now that season 2 is ending, this is what i believe to be the reasoning behind why MHA makes you feel like it does, the representation and metaphor behind Deku Todoroki Bakugou Shinsou All Might Endeavor Stain and society in general
    this is an untouched topic by other anime analysts like Digibro, Explanation Point or The Pedantic Romantic being that it deconstructs the story in a way you never saw...

    Check Mother's Basement's channel. XD
    The joke totally hits the mark, and I got half of my very good chuckle from the subtle burn, but the other half of the chuckle came from the irony that Mother's Basement has recently released a multi-part analysis of the HeroAca OPs.

    You know I'm in the minority with manga and anime where I never put myself into the character to be him. Even with like the MC from Monster Musume I consider him his own character. Anyone else like this?

    • @VivioSaf
      @VivioSaf 7 лет назад +37

      Not actually "to be him". That's only a form that people use to express how believable the character is. If you can imagine your self in the same situation or, at least, in a similar situation (disregarding of the particularities of the manga's universe), this character does a good job in being believable.
      It's not like someone thinks that they were Deku. But that they can relate to some of his struggles, and draw parallels with themselves.

    • @alexandresobreiramartins9461
      @alexandresobreiramartins9461 7 лет назад +15

      Definitely me. May people say they think they need to identify with characters in order to like them. I never understood that. I think they have to be well-built and have depth, but not be "relatable". My favorite character in Inglourious Basterds is the Nazzi commander portrayed by Christoph Waltz, because he's by far the deepest, most complex and most interesting character (together with the overwhelmingly best actor) in the movie. However, he's a total monster and I can't at all relate to him. Still my favorite character in that movie.

    • @alexandresobreiramartins9461
      @alexandresobreiramartins9461 7 лет назад +7

      I don't know. The way he puts it, it almost sounds like Deku is supposed to be a sort of Mary Sue, totally empty and void of character so the audience can put themselves in his shoes without any effort. I really don't think he's like that at all. And he's certainly not my favorite character in the story (those being Shouto Todoroki and Uraraka). Actually, I like Deku but I find him quite unrelatable. He's way too good for me to really relate to him. All Might is far more interesting a character.

      @jbark678 7 лет назад +17

      So, I'm unclear on something. Are people with quirks (no matter what the quirk is) supposed to be more durable than people without? Against certain quirk users, Eraser Head is essentially quirkless, yet he's still a hero. Then there's Stain, who pulls off inhuman feats of agility without a quirk, making hard to tell if it's the "training relaxes the suspension of disbelief" comic book-ism or an inherent trait of quirks.

    I hate it when people talk about this type of story and say its trying to tell us that it is all about determination and with enough effort/hard work anyone can make it. The show begins with the very real fact that not everyone can make it no matter how hard they try. But this fact is then shown to more of a generality than an end all be all for those not born with the money or opportunities to succeed in a way that involves luck. Deku was never going to succeed if it wasn't for the luck he had in meeting All Might and being able to impress him as a quirkless nobody like he himself once was. Deku didn't earn the power of One for All and wouldn't have gotten anywhere without it, no matter how determined or hardworking he would have been. I understand that he had to work extremely hard to learn how to properly use the power to advance as an aspiring hero, but it is the potential that matters and he didn't have any potential to be a hero before his lucky encounter with All Might. Bottom line, if Deku never met All Might, his story would have been a series of depressing realization that if you don't have the potential for greatness, you will never achieve your unrealistic dreams.

    • @ahat4046
      @ahat4046 6 лет назад +13

      Jeremy Figueroa This is true. But Deku’s determination is one of the things that caught all mights eye. All Might basically tells Deku that no amount of determination alone can make you a hero. But because of that determination I’m going to help you. So what the show says you need to become nobility is luck connections and determination. Determination being the biggest factor.

    • @justleaveitblank2652
      @justleaveitblank2652 6 лет назад +10

      Determination is an important factor when trying to accomplish any goal, be it changing social status or getting the highest marks on a test. Everyone runs into obstacles, but having the drive, the determination, to either overpower those obstacles (i.e. cramming) or find a creative solution (i.e. cheating) is why we are able to overcome them. Even seemingly random things like luck or connections can be influenced with enough effort and determination. Probably

    That's kind of a really bad interpretation in regards to deku and what he represents. He isn't intended to be some escapist shallow character that represents the people in the audience, but rather the series follows an interesting and complex character on a personal level, and his experiences are simply things that the audience can empathize with. This doesn't mean that the audience is meant to be him, it's just good writing and character depth.

    • @yukiyurosaki
      @yukiyurosaki 6 лет назад +5

      yeah it should be watch as someone's journey from zero to hero, not really something the audience can input themselves, just something they can empathize. Deku even mention from beginning, retelling how and when he become a pro hero trace back as a student thus the series being called 'My Hero Academia'. Plus he actually retelling events that *happened* while being a student at his dream school. notice the narrator is always deku and no one else. Even in manga the narrator use first person narration.
      not really a story audience can see themselves as Deku, just listening or reading Deku's experience. It does use like any Shounen manga or anime's tactic 'follow the MC's journey to their goal' but the way MHA used it more to reading a story that already happen, not something we and MC going on a journey together like other animes do.

    • @yukiyurosaki
      @yukiyurosaki 6 лет назад +1

      i mean the way the story is now, he's still tracing back his journey, not even close to the situation he's facing cuz i remember watch the anime S1 Ep 1 Deku alone facing villains that we still don't know how many. until then, we still in the past.

    • @justleaveitblank2652
      @justleaveitblank2652 6 лет назад +5

      I think that it is because Deku is a complex character that more people, as an audience, can relate to him. After all, we are all complex and interesting people ourselves. I agree that Deku is not your typical male shounen protagonist, but rather than making him less relatable, it makes him more so.

    • @ameliapaquette4938
      @ameliapaquette4938 4 года назад

      Exactly, but what I think Nux was trying to say was that we aren't supposed to BE deku but to relate to him and have empathy for him

  • @RobbyTheRogue
    @RobbyTheRogue 7 лет назад +8

    I think you might reading a little too much into it with minorities representing quirks and how it's a story about racism.
    It's a series with people with super powers, they state out right that super pwoers are the norm. It is True Shinso's quirk was judged unfairly, but he has the ability to rob someone, anyone, of their will and is in itself a very terrifying thing that can be very easily abused.
    Stain's quirk itself wasn't feeble and while he could use poison he made a choice to use the very power that was scorned by others and used it to strike down a society of individuals that were not a 'true' hero, or one who is devoted to being a hero 100%. By that same logic most people would not be a 'true' whatever their profession is unless their entire life was about that one aspect, in short he held others to a standard that he beleived in and attacked all he belived faltered in that.
    And referring to Deku and All might as part of the 'upper class' is rather odd to me considering that, at best, I'd say Deku is lower middle class and All might isn't really seen as that extravagant a person.
    Over all after watching this video I can see parallels to what your talking about in the story, but they just don't connect to me. This series seems to me like a shonen series with the premise of 'A world where almost everyone has a super power' and fleshing it out and building it up as a world and how people interact with it.

    Deku is ultimately set on a collision course with Bakugo, because Bakugo, a member of the elite class, resents Deku because he feels that this lower class hero only succeeded because of the opportunity that was given to him “unfairly” via a sense of charity, like a sort of quirk affirmative action, only to eventually start coming to terms with the fact that Deku’s determination and hard work were what allowed him to make what he did out of the opportunity he was given. Holy subtle social commentary, Batman.

    Something one character mentioned in the manga (I'm one of those people who haven't watched it but have read it) was that even if the heroes are doing it for less than heroic reasons, such as for money or to fuel their ego, they are still doing what heroes do, they still risk their lives saving others. Of course, some to different extents, but nontheless, they do their job, so you can only hate them so much.

    I feel like this video was all over the place. And you might want to change DECODED to EXPLAINED or something. Because decoded makes it sound like most of this wasn't obvious. The only thing I didn't already think of was Stain using poison instead of his Quirk. though to be fair he *had* wanted to be a hero and wants to "cleanse" the fake hero's. But he doesn't see himself as a villain. And few people who are trying to do the right thing, even if misguided, will use poison. Also, if I recall, he failed an entrance exam because his Quirk didn't stand up against the robots. He's possibly also trying to show on some level that his Quirk is just as effective as more directly combat Quirks and poison negates that.

    One thing about Shinso I don't like is that he used his quirk to get a team for the calvary battle instead of, ya know, asking around, forming a team and saying 'this is what I can do, this is how we can win'.

    I don't know if this is a joke but it's plain wrong.
    A *VERY* important point in BnHA (well, the aime isn't kind of there yet but it's already obviosu if you know where to look) is taht power on itself means nothing if you don't put effort into it, you have to train, bleed and cry to reach that point. bakugo is awesome because he is anturally awesome and he also trains like crazy. That's why he is so good at everything, his natural ability compliments with stupid levels of effort.
    Actually, Deku calls Todoroki on his bullshit and how he is jobbing while everyone else is putting their everything on the fights, taht he is a dick that is shitting over everyone's else efforts.

      yes, every anime ever has some element about how hard work is the most important, but the actual evidence says otherwise

      What in this series says that these characters aren't working their asses off? It's shown that they're constantly either doing schoolwork or hero work, and (later in the manga) they're always working towards bigger goals (exams, getting their hero licenses, internships) and always trying their best.

    I don't really take Bakugo's grades in the exams as him being smarter than Izuku. Rather he hates Izuku being better than him in any respect that he would cram for the exams just to do better than Izuku. Izuku tends to retain a lot more information from the exams while Bakugo let's it all go after exams. Bakugo does also seem to play video games to makes analyzes between real world and games, maybe even getting some of his hand eye coordination from fast pace games and the rest training/fighting others.

    'Every viewer is meant to be Deku' Well shit, here I am over here pretty much only relating to Katsuki and Tomura. ...To be fair, in most ways, I am not most people. Shit, I mean, I'm over here rewatching Avatar the Last Airbender and relating to Azula. Anyways, wonderful video, LOVE your channel even if I don't aaalways agree with your opinions, and you're one of the only anime youtubers I actually like, along with Swagkage. Perhaps there are more good ones I haven't discovered yet, but I really don't like most popular anime youtubers I've seen. And some are ok but not that engaging for me.
