Even as a Raiders fan myself, Derrick will always be my favorite player of all time. This guy was truly special on and off the field. Rest in Peace DT.
I saw the 1990 Seahawks at Chiefs game where Thomas sacked Krieg 7 times to break the record for most sacks in a game. He almost got sack number 8 on the final play but missed and Krieg threw a 25 yard touchdown pass for a Seahawks victory. Most amazing football game I have ever seen. Seahawks won but Thomas is what stood out. The final score was 17-16 which coincidentally was the score of this years Seahawks at Chiefs preseason game which too was decided on the final play. Made me think of Thomas, RIP.
Yeah that was a great game. Felt bad for Derrick. He had Kreig in his sights. Kreig stepped up in the pocket just in time. We love Derrick in Alabama. So sad he went so early. Bday is Jan 1st. Imagine that. God rest his soul.

Derrick Thomas and Reggie White were my 2 favorite defensive players of all time may they both R.I.P. and also if he would've never dief so young I believe he would have set the sack record so high that nobody would ever come close to breaking it
I always loved watching him get around the corner. That brief moment when you're wondering is he just gonna sack him, or is he gonna strip the ball too? With Neil Smith on the other corner, it just got better. I wish we could've gotten him a SB ring before he decided to leave us.
I was a Seahawk fan at the time I lived out there and just dreaded every time we had to play the Chiefs either at home or away because of Derrick Thomas. I see many lists rating best LB yet never does a list have him & some say he was a DT - Wrong . He was a OLB playing in mostly 3-4 defensive scheme & he caused more havoc than any edge Rusher in NFL history . Whether causing fumbles or sacks he gave his all on every play , If a record was kept he may have been leader for play losses in NFL history. Few players ever escaped him once he grabbed ahold of them . He is perhaps best LB for Sacks & Fumbles caused in history of NFL.
I sold cars at the dealership that he was there guy & DT had a golf Tournament every year which had the top guys in the league come play . Dealership loaned him a brand new cargo van to haul those dudes around well i happened to be in back as they was dropping that van off and it looked like it had been on the golf course with grass and dents all over this thing which was basically totaled. +Boondock Saint if LT had not played then there wouldn't be this blanket of ignorance that LT is always better. I'm saying DT played 11 and no LT played 13 years not 12. In 11 seasons DT averaged more sacks than LT and would have easily eclipsed that mark if DT played 13 years
Lt would take 3 people to stop him and and still had 130+ sacks and taking up 3 people would free up other players on the field to make plays that's why Lt is the Goat OLB
+Andrew Acacia - Plus, LT's true sack total was 142 as the sacks in his rookie year was before the stats became official, not to mention he had to play two seasons that had been messed up by strike. There's also the fact that he filled in for Harry Carson for part of the season in 1983. With these considered, he probably would have gotten 155-165. Also, run defense.
+GreenDraco313 That is a tough choice really. Derrick is right up there with the ones you named. But then since we are talking all time, how about the likes of a great linebacking corp of Lanier, Bell and Lynch. So many more to try and pick like Deron Cherry, Kevin Ross and Albert Lewis. Then there is Buck Buchanan or Emmit Thomas who now coaches the present Chiefs defensive backfield. to name just a few. But out of the list you give I would have to say Dawson because he has a Super Bowl ring.
Paul Hayes actually it was 7 sacks. He had the 8th in his hands at the end of the game but Kreig stepped up in the pocket and threw the game winning td pass. Derrick was oh so close.
Please. Derrick Thomas wasn't a great run defender. You could NOT run AWAY from nor could you run AT Lawrence Taylor. Watch the videos of Taylor's run defense. Absolutely brutal. Watch the 'Pain Game' vs the NO Saints when he had 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles with a torn deltoid muscle. Derrick Thomas was a great player....but Lawrence Taylor was in a class by himself.
@@byrongammonbyrongammon9937 both were dominant, both were feared, both are HOFamers, Who's better is an opinion? Everybody got one. You sound silly ever time you text something.
007 Lanski .....CORRECTION. Derrick Thomas was an incredible pass rusher. Lawrence Taylor was a force of nature who forced both his own coaches and opposing coaches to alter their game plans to account for his ability as a complete football player. How can you assert that Derrick Thomas is even in the same class as LT when Thomas is as benched during the 2nd half of the most important game Kansas City played in during the last 26 years?!? They benched him because he was a liability against the run. Please, man.
007 Lanski .....Derrick Thomas was very good, not great. Great players don’t get benched during the most important game of the season while you’re trying to get to the Super Bowl. Lawrence Taylor was Defensive Player Of the Year in his ROOKIE season. Then he won it again in his sophomore season.....his first two seasons in the NFL he was the best defensive player. Then he won it again 4 years later along with the League MVP Award. Please stop mentioning Derrick Thomas in the same sentence as Lawrence Taylor.
Adam Torres You're clearly not a true Chiefs fan. Because Charles isn't even the best Chiefs running back. Hali isn't in the top 3 for best linebackers. (Not even close tbh) and Berry has only been around for 6 years and missed 2 of them
Marcos Valencia Over Thomas? You're kidding. Peppers? Jesus. No. Bobby Bell was a bull rusher. Thomas was finese and faster. I'd take Thomas for that reasom
An absolute snub for the NFL All-100 Team. Derrick Thomas was the best LBer in the 90s decade and it wasn't even close. Derrick Brooks over Derrick Thomas? What a joke, the NFL should be ashamed.
I will keep on trying to keep his legacy alive by telling people to buckle up. Number 58 is the reason I always buckle up today. One of the greatest football players in history and one of its finest young men. Rest in eternal peace Number 58. You will always be missed. I hope you are smiling down on me for trying to do what is right. Ask God to help me to help other people.
Cool bit of info. DT used to go to Hank Williams Jr house with a bunch of college football and country stars for a party every summer. One time on his way home from a bass fishing tournament in Florida he stopped at a BBQ joint in Warrensburg, MO and was so impressed he invited the cook to Hanks next party and the guy began cooking for Hank's party every year after that. I ate at that BBQ joint and there were pics of Hank and DT all over the wall. It was cool to hear some of his stories. I think it's shut down now though. It was off highway 13 just as you're leaving town going south.
I still remember this man as a Freshman at Alabama. I believe it was the Gator Bowl against Ohio St. He covered wide receivers on fly patterns 50 yards down the field and was stride for stride with them I don't think any of them caught one pass, and Derrick was a freshman starting linebacker just unbelievable. He is my all-time favorite defensive player RIP Mr. Thomas you earned it.
the opposing offense would snap the ball and my 10 y.o. self would count to 3. If the pass wasn't gone by the 3 count DT or 90 or Saleamua, Bill Maas would get them.

Imo Jamaal Charles is the best
+Boondock Saint 3. D.T
+GreenDraco313 3.D.T.
I liked Dante Hall too
If you really think about it, Von Miller is basically a poor man’s Derrick Thomas
Not sure about that, maybe in pass rushing but overall defensive ability was the question.
Truth be told, I think Von is a better overall player.
THe closest thing to Lawrence Taylor I've ever seen
Hay otro naaaaa larga vida al rey
He gone
About 99% of his sacks would qualify as "good sacks" today. He doesn't put all body weight on but 2 maybe 3 qb's.
Rip
What do u mean 6 sacks it was 7
Oh yeah i forgot like 9 of the high lights are the seattle qb getting sacked 9 times to break a record that still Hasnt been broken agian
Paul Hayes actually it was 7 sacks. He had the 8th in his hands at the end of the game but Kreig stepped up in the pocket and threw the game winning td pass. Derrick was oh so close.
Correct. WR Paul Skansi caught the winning touchdown.
rip
Rollllllll Tide!!!!!!!
beat defensive player ever niners fan
Not really, he was great though.
Wish Chapps and BBC UK versus osi and KB did review in UK, Fuck. London.
In stead of arguing who is better imagine both on one team. (I think LT is better this is coming from a cowboys fan)
Lawrence Taylor is BY FAR the more complete player and way more dominant. It is not even close.
Both were good in my opinion. Both were feared.
The intro with a bunch of scrubs names.. cmon
First comment
MR Thomas is in my dream LB corps with Butkus and Ray Lewis/Urlacher
lol
to me the best chief of all time or chiefs is 3rd eric berry number two tamba hali and number one Jamaal Charles
Adam Torres no Thomas is definitely #1
Adam Torres You're clearly not a true Chiefs fan. Because Charles isn't even the best Chiefs running back. Hali isn't in the top 3 for best linebackers. (Not even close tbh) and Berry has only been around for 6 years and missed 2 of them
MrNewtcummer Bobby bell better than DT hell no and saying Bobby bell is the best OLB ever is absurd I'd take Julius peppers over him 😂😂😂
Marcos Valencia Over Thomas? You're kidding. Peppers? Jesus. No. Bobby Bell was a bull rusher. Thomas was finese and faster. I'd take Thomas for that reasom
03underground chiefs records show bell had 40 sacks peppers has 142
An absolute snub for the NFL All-100 Team.
Derrick Thomas will always be among the top performers in league history, the type linebacker all coaches dream of, RIP
AFTER Lawrence Taylor.
I'd imagine that Qb's hated him
RTC you made me remember that day number 58 on I 70. Then that sad day in Miami. Thank you. #58
the opposing offense would snap the ball and my 10 y.o. self would count to 3. If the pass wasn't gone by the 3 count DT or 90 or Saleamua, Bill Maas would get them.
