It’s definitely something akin to blooming waters rn. It’s not kids or parents or young adults wanting something from their child hood, it’s investors gate keeping the product to flip money
There will be significant reprints, but not for the hobby channel because Pokemon is sick of what distributors and some LGS are doing. Pokemon will give 90% of the reprints to big box stores will get the products to the most amount of diverse amount of people at MSRP.
Ive opened about 60 packs I'd say, got it all at MSRP on preorders, and this is just simply not a fun set to open. Unless you literally hit the lottery and hit a God or demi God pack (which 98% of people will never hit), I mean I wouldn't even open this set at MSRP again, I would much rather rip a set like paldea evolved, temporal forces, 151, the list goes on and on.
That is the overall problem with this set; it is all in the hands of people who have no business being in the hobby. It is all just people who could care less and just want to make money. I think this stems from a distribution problem.
Absolutely the distributors are playing a big role in this craziness
the pull rates aren't bad though? They are way better than most Sword and Shield boxes. Its just tough to get a specific SIR. A little confused on this video
Well people want an eeveelution, and that’s only 9 cards/32. So like 28% ? Lots of dud sir cards. Lots of data out there, none of it conclusive . Danny phantump says pull rates are like 1/60 or worse for sir cards, meaning pulling any eeveelution is like 1/700 packs, which is harder even than evolving skies. And not even necessarily the one you want. Tcg player says 1/45 packs, but they are counting all pulls from from god packs individually . Either way, it’s super hard pull rates for any era, and packs are double the price they should be already.
@@Theu131 you are incorrect in pull rate data on evolving skies for a special alternate art. fyi.
@@TheNachris720odds of pulling a vmax Umbreon are 1/1990 packs, per tcg player. Also According to tcg player, sir pull rates are 1/45, so chances of pulling new moonbreon are 1/1440.But Danny phantump thinks it’s more like 1/60. Which makes pull rate 1/1920. Almost exactly the same for both cards
Great take on Prismatic. I think you are right about there not being that sentiment two years, three years from now to open this product again.
Won't matter. I liked his take too but when you're talking money, and God packs, and the value. Wait 10 years, and if the singles hold. Then the God packs will be the wildest thing ever. Money derails everything. Even nostalgia. My take.
I like that the set about Eevee is teaching our youth about gambling and EV. This set is less of a tcg and more of a lottery ticket system. Be honest, how many people love the Terra Eevee art? This market behavior is just gambling on tulips.
I totally agree with you. I had so much trouble trying to get PE, I'm done with any desire to purchase this. Even if I could get it at MSRP., I'd probably say "No thanks". It isn't a good experience. I managed to get one binder collection. The kids pulled absolutely nothing to get excited about. I'm going to try for Journey Together - maybe that set will be more fun. I am completely turned off from PE. My grandchildren like some of the older sets, so I'll focus on getting sets for them that are more exciting than PE, going forward. Meanwhile, it seems like there are almost no Pokemon TCG sets available at all. right now. So, it's time to focus on something else. If it wasn't for the grandchildren wanting this, I would have zero interest, so sets with no fun cards are useless IMO.
Agreed, the set simply isn't fun to open unless you're ripping 2-300+ packs, which isn't feasible for 95% of the people in the hobby.
It seems like you were not around for evolving skies. It was called evolving cries for a reason. The only thing that matters is how good the hits are in a set.
Thank you for making this video. It is the most realistic video I have heard about prismatic evolutions since it came out. You gain a subscriber in me today.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Counterpoint for bad pull rates and negative sentiment around opening experience affecting value and people’s desire to open years past release: Evolving Skies AKA Evolving Cries
Some people just love the chase, and I think god packs in PE is a huge motivator for people to open.
I also think similar, the pull rates and market sentiment won't matter in 6 months if there's still the Umbreon over $1k, multiple eevelutions over $250, multiple cards over the $50/100 values. Even if you shaved off 25% of value on all singles, That kind of value still blows away any other modern set, even compared to evolving skies. Not to mention any time there is a first of something in cards (IE first master ball pattern in english) that tends to age well. Demand for the singles is first and foremost what I want to see. Is the demand for the eeveelutions really gonna drop over time?
But Evo Skies was cheap out of the gate. Long term this set is a winner IMO.
Paldea Evolved?
I agree, and I was going to make similar points.
you could get boxes of evolving skies which makes it cheaper to open leaving aside the fact it received four huge reprints
Yeah prismatic was my last straw. The pull rates in this era are to low its no longer fun. I spent 4k on sealed to crack over these last 4 months i got jackshiz nothing good at all. Im done with buying packs to open. Time to grow up maybe.
SURGING SPARKS - I agree with what you said about SS. Long term I love the investment potential.
Put your money in a low fee S&P 500 indexed fund if you want an investment that can actually help lead to an earlier retirement
@flogtwo nah
This guy nailed it, longterm high prices require nostalgia etc., which the avg person will never have for this set. Pokemon is turning into the gray watch market. High prices are being artificially inflated due to dealers just selling between themselves, and not the end consumer.
Fantastic points and great take. Keep up the awesome conyrnt
Whats the last special set with these pull rates and therefore higher prices of cards? Sure it will get printed alot but it will be swallowed up. As long as pull rates stay the same. As long as the umbreon is 1k+ you can kiss msrp goodbye. I'm not god so obviously I could be wrong but logically it makes sense. It has that "chase" factor
Good take, I agree. Picked up very little of PE (my choice...not a supply issue for me). Much more excited about Journey Together & TR!
imo looks like its gonna take the route of evolving skies, the highlight of the entire block, cards are too valuable even with a retracement. and once the timmy sclapers are gone, which wont be much longer. the investors will set the price
Till the graded cards come to market the price will go right back up
This is spot on and the same feelings I have and TBH I’m probably looking to offload a little bit of my position in PE. No one rly knew missing IRs and full arts would hurt this bad but damn it rly does. Masterballs just don’t hit for me and I don’t think anyone else.
Paldea Evolved?
We need a Crown Zenith version of Scarlet and Violet
Man this would be nuts. The crown zenith version of the s&V era would look beautiful. Imagine the GG and all the IRs and the SIRs.
So you need to sell some of your old stuff
I think you made some great points! Prismatic will likely need to go through a downturn in price and sentiment for a bit as it's gotten way overheated. The risk I think is that if this is seen as a "failed product" this could really hurt sentiment overall in the market and given how overheated we are sentiment wise, the risk is that it drags the entire market down with it.
Long term though I don't think it will matter with regard to price performance. People who will be buying this in 10-20 years will largely be folks who are new to the hobby and have deep pockets for aged product. If the cards remain desirable and rare, the sealed products will do well.
Good video and very valid points. So it would have to drop low enough for it to "naturally " rise in value. A fresh start you could say. And also have a big reprint, and have Journey Together tank. And, Rocket is coming up.
It rebounded to $110 as of today.
Sell through volume is down though. Further we get from release with high supply and low sell volume the more likely we break through $100.
Terrible take
How many have tou bough yourself?
not having IRs hurt too. the masterballs dont hit the same
This set is brand new. I wouldn’t make any assumptions for long term performance based on what’s happened in the first few days of an insanely hyped set in an insanely hyped market. As stated in previous comments, evolving skies doesn’t have good pull rates and it’s king of modern. Don’t hyper analyze the present. Long term this set will kill.
Evolving skies was cheap enough long enough to become beloved. Don't discount that as a method by which product accumulates in price over time. I've spent untold amounts of money to buy sealed product that I fell in love with when I was young.
exactly this, youtubers overthinking for vid and views
The ETBs are at $80 now locally on social media. The distributor is constantly restocking the stores now.
The only way to keep up the hype regarding possible pulls is having each of the bigger PokeTubers open a "God pack". Hmmm
I think you make some really good points in the video! I watch alot of rip and ships in the background and the amount of prismatic that is ripped every single day does make believe there’s still incredible ripping demand. More than anything I’ve ever see tbh. I think that the ability to rip a pack and make even $800 off a god pack will prop this set up for years to come. If every eeveelution drops to $100 and Masterball Eevee to $50 - the fact there’s still a chance (albeit disgustingly low) to rip a booster pack and walk away with $800-1000 will draw just as many people (maybe not collectors) to this set to rip over and over and over and over.
He’s taking about collecting…. You’re talking about gambling.
@ he’s talking about pricing. Sorry you must have not listened to any of the video. There’s literally a chart with graphs and prices the entire video you bozo
Addition of god packs is great but that doesn't make a set. This is a perfect storm of bad pull rates, demand through the roof and not enough supply to go around. I'd wager that bad pull rates on a specialty set (ETB) may not be the best combo.
You’re going to see a big decrease in scalping as the economy turns around. When people are struggling to pay for groceries, they’ll do anything to put food on the table.
To think this box isn’t gonna skyrocket in the future 😂😂 literally look at what the cards are selling for. The cards are 2x raw value of evolving skies. Are you stupid?
Pokemon trends with Bitcoin, look at the charts, it’s exactly following same path.
Lol why you don't go into debt for pokemon.if you don't have money to lose. Don't touch pokemon. Supply& demand. Quality over quantity. Value of time. Experience when to sell, how to compound
Bro. Shut up 🤣
