I was sooooo close to installing the Mobius in my car....but then the new cam arrived and I'm so pleased with it that I've permanently installed this one in my car. It's so new though the sellers are still in the process of setting up their ebay store ...I warned them that they need to be ready to expect a few orders.
You know Techmoan, I don't know how you do it, It seems whenever I'm looking for a new type of product that I know nothing about, you seem to put out a product review of the very same nature! Thanks for all of the help! - CaliAviation
I'd just like to say, thanks for all the effort you put into doing these review videos. I received my Mobius camera a few days ago and I couldn't be happier, all thanks to you!
Just a quick video today - I'm working on a Dash-Cam video that I hope to have finished in a week or so...It's my favourite one so far.....No spoilers, but if you want a tiny car camera with an LCD screen, I suggest you hold onto your money until I've had a chance to finish this one...
No need to worry, I also prefer the way the USB mike sounds, so I'll be using the lavalier sparingly. The next time I intend to use it is to talk through the onscreen menus on a dash-cam. The rest of the video will be recorded with the usual equipment.
I'm still getting used to it. I'm happier now I've got it working with an external mic (the main reason I got a new cam) ...I've got some macro adaptors coming, which should sort out my close-up focussing requirements.
very nice review! Also i guess with a bit of soldering someone can cut the very long audio cable and install a female 3.5mm stereo jack, so you can either connect it with a short or a long double male ended stereo jack lead as needed!
I'll have a look and see what I can find - it's very difficult for me because I use Prescription lenses in my glasses - but I suppose I can find my way around for a while to do a short test.
One possibility for a mic that plugs into your camera is a directional shotgun mic such as the Rode VideoMic. When unboxing you'd have the mic as close as possible and out of shot, perhaps above the box. With a cheap flash "foot" attached to the mic's foot you can mount the mic on a standard tripod, and the mic has shock isolators. I have the VideoMic and the sound quality is very high. Feel free to contact me if you need more info.
i notice you are getting a few bumps using the mic there, most likely something hitting the mic like your shirt or something, what i find helpful is taking out the bass frequency using some sort of vst based EQ, the human voice does not use these frequencies and should get rid of those small noises. plenty of vids on youtube how to do that if you are interested
Great Review I too was looking for a mic and this one seems to be ideal. I really enjoy watching your reviews as I Have been able to learn from you and make my videos a lot better.
Aliexpress is a bit like ebay and the stuff is not sold by them but by many independent dealers. Aliexpress don't pass your money on to the seller until you confirm you have received the goods and they are satisfactory - a great safeguard. My experience so far with items - better than expected. But it depends what you are buying!
I've used one of these for a couple of years with a Kodak Zi-8 and lately with a Canon handicam. It is mono, so I have to do something in editing to get the sound on both channels. I've left it on for weeks and, rather than test the battery, I just by them by the dozen on eBay and replace every week--even if I remember to turn it off when not in use. I've also forgotten to turn it on, but these days I twist the Canon viewfinder around so I can keep myself framed and can see the VU display.
i went with the BLUE-Snowflake mic for voice overs it's very rich and cuts out almost ALL ambient noise , very warm yet crisp sound out of that one and it didn't break the bank , i paid $30.00 for mine and i have seen them cheaper since
Funny, I just bought one from Amazon a few days ago. It works great! If you want a recommendation on a dash cam review, you might want to look at the "HD 720P 3 Lens Rear Vehicle In Car Video Camera DVR Black Box Dash Cam G-sensor" another camera from China on eBay.
Your other microphone/audio sounded better. Not sure what you used before, I think you usually added talk to your vids after you already filmed them on the computer side.
I just recently bought ATR3350iS Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone for Smartphones I was wondering whether LR44 1.55v batteries will be harmful for the mic, as I heard it runs on LR44 1.5v?
Is it possible to use it for amplifying my voice during presentation? What kind of set up do I need? Should I plug this into my smartphone and then connect smartphone with a sound amplifier via bluetooth?
very nice video. I recently got one of these for christmas and I was curious as to the sound (the reason why I watched this video) because mine is very noisy. Probably user error like you mentioned, but I'm still messing around with it.
I'm always working on something new...Subscribing should automatically keep you up to date with any uploads and give you a bit of a break...but I suppose it's still possible to miss an update. It will be at least a few days before my next video is completed.
Hmm...I guess I've been so accustomed to your normal superb sounding audio that by comparison the lavalier sounds quite inferior to my ear. Although for what it is it's a good price and indispensable for some scenarios I suppose. I know what you mean about synching audio in post - I still have to do that by ear and eye with my little productions since I have no time code capable equipment.
Is it just me, or does it have a little echo on it at the end, where he holds the box? Outside it sounds alright tbh. Certainly enough for most peoples use.
Hi! Thanks for a good, succinct and informative video. The sound quality of this microphone or rather the lack of it notwithstanding, it tells me what to stay away from. :-) The dangling wire is a nuisance and it's very visible in the video. I'm looking for a wireless stereo microphone kit, but obviously NOT in professional price range. They do have about the same range as the wired one. Presently I'm awaiting the arrival of my newest acquisition: the SJ1000 :-) Thanks!
Wow that was short. Please do a review on the drift hd ghost, since you already review the go pro and sony action cam. I can't make up my mind on which one I want to buy. Thanks again
The new microphone is inferior your USB microphone. The sound is muffled and the extended bass response is missing. One of best things about your reviews is the quality of the voice-overs. The disconnect between the live-action and the commentary is what gives it that air of quality. I appreciate the amount of extra work involved but you may be losing too much if you go the lavalier route.
When I use this mic it has to be placed very close to my mouth and I have to speak loudly (to the point of vocal strain) for it to register. Then I have to amplify the sound on a audio program to get half decent levels, resulting in loads of interference. I see loads of reviews hyping this mic but I've had nothing but problems. Even replaced the battery.
does this one fits in the mic jack of Sony HDR CX 430V ? or can you suggest some good external microphone for Sony HDR CX 430V?..... your reviews are awesome. After seeing your reviews i bought one split bullet cam and two KGB spy pen which are so helpful for recording seminars or guest lectures.
Damnit we have to watch another video, haha. Either way the microphone sounded good, for 19 bucks you can't go wrong. I've seen some for cel phones for 5 bucks with a windsock that sounds great, even when your standing far away from the cel phone. Since I have free cash on Amazon I might order one.
i found that odd as well seeing as he seems to be an audiophile (not to mention runs a youtube channel dedicated to home A/V) you woulda thought he be familiar with audio technica!! maybe they arent very big in the UK
I'm monitoring your internet traffic and then quickly making videos based on your searches in the hope of getting a few £s from the affiliated links....trust you don't mind. ;-)
It doesn't work for my computer... what similar mic will work for my computer. It does, but I have to literally put it inside my mouth, otherwise it doesn't read.
What's a "Lavalier"? I thought those things were called lapel mics. Or is that another Americanism that we've picked up here in Australia without realising it?
The AS15 has surprisingly good sound - you can see in the video that it holds it's own.
I was sooooo close to installing the Mobius in my car....but then the new cam arrived and I'm so pleased with it that I've permanently installed this one in my car. It's so new though the sellers are still in the process of setting up their ebay store ...I warned them that they need to be ready to expect a few orders.
Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I'll ever find the ideal solution for all my scenarios, but I may take at some video mics too.
You know Techmoan,
I don't know how you do it, It seems whenever I'm looking for a new type of product that I know nothing about, you seem to put out a product review of the very same nature!

I'll take a look, a few people have asked me to look at another multi-cam setup.
I'd just like to say, thanks for all the effort you put into doing these review videos.

your voice overs sound so much better than live stuff, it's unbelievable.

OK - Looks like i'll have to follow though on that now...it's only a USB mic though, so can't be attached to the cam.
Which one...the USB mic or the Audio Technica?
OK - noted.
It's probably picking up an echo inside off the back of my photography table....I can't blame the mic for that...it's just my room acoustics.
Ok, I thought the end you were using the old one and were going to review another one you had. Thanks for clearing up the confusion.
I don't see why not.
I suppose it depends on what you are doing, but using this will mean I save at least an evening of editing on each video.
I'm still getting used to it. I'm happier now I've got it working with an external mic (the main reason I got a new cam) ...I've got some macro adaptors coming, which should sort out my close-up focussing requirements.

I'll send them a message, I haven't heard from them since I posted the Mobius review.
No, but it makes a good noose.
You should made a list of "reviews in progress" so we may know whats next.
that would be great
Does anyone else keep checking to find out if Techmoan has uploaded anything new? I think I'm slightly addicted to it: :) keep up the good work dude
Oh, Audio-Technica. They pretty good audio devices. My favorite headphones are the ATH-M50x Red Edition.
I like the quality of that little thing, better than the Lumix in my opinion.
Keep 'em coming Matthew!

Yep.
You might like the olympus me15
I have no idea - it just seems to be what all the cool kids are saying nowadays (and it's what was written on the box).
The one you're using at the end sounds better to me. Love your reviews. Subscribed and eagerly await the next one!

will wait for the next review, that battery without led is hell your'e never sure it will work
A purpose made dash cam - I'll reveal all when I've finished my review.
Not from me...
I use a sony hdr as15. Thanks to youre review
Great Review I too was looking for a mic and this one seems to be ideal. I really enjoy watching your reviews as I Have been able to learn from you and make my videos a lot better.
Thanks for the tip.

The USB mic I usually use for the VoiceOvers is a Samson GoMic, at the end of the video I'm using a new USB mic that I'll be reviewing soon.
The Drift HD is pretty expensive, so I can't afford to get one in for review right now
Good review again. You should get a spot on the gadget show!

I have that exact mic. I still need to get more use out of it
That's Neil Buchanan - Art Attack made him a multi-millionaire...quite a few pennies dropped in his direction.
Quite curious on the microphone you mention in the end of the video. Sounds good!
It sounded alright outside, but not as good inside. I am using low end ear buds to listen with.
I just recently bought ATR3350iS
Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone
for Smartphones
I was wondering whether LR44 1.55v batteries will be
harmful for the mic,
as I heard it runs on LR44 1.5v?
Audio Technica makes fantastic headphones, they are by no means a low budget brand.

The mic end and clip look very much like the Drift HD mic. Just an observation.

Audio technica makes the best of the best stuff, also cheap stuff aswell
Wow that was short. Please do a review on the drift hd ghost, since you already review the go pro and sony action cam. I can't make up my mind on which one I want to buy. Thanks again
I'm American and in my video editing class we called it a lavalier mic.
I just bought the same mic. Haven't tried it yet
The new microphone is inferior your USB microphone. The sound is muffled and the extended bass response is missing. One of best things about your reviews is the quality of the voice-overs. The disconnect between the live-action and the commentary is what gives it that air of quality. Could you try this mic and the other one in your helmet and see if it would be useful in that regard?
When I use this mic it has to be placed very close to my mouth and I have to speak loudly (to the point of vocal strain) for it to register. Then I have to amplify the sound on a audio program to get half decent levels, resulting in loads of interference. I see loads of reviews hyping this mic but I've had nothing but problems. I review quite a few imported Chinese products, what things in particular are you interested in?
The future review
Might this be good for dash cam or helmet cam dictation
yeah super stoked... didnt work out of the box... even replaced batteries... well that was a waste
I have to do the same as you. I have to watch my video and record the voiceovers on my Sony Walkman (which is quite tricky.).
I was just going to ask which USB mic you were using when you said you were saving that for another review. Denied!
Hello sir,
Is it compatible on Android phone for audio recording purpose?
will this work with phones with 3.5mm jack,
looking forward to your reply
does this one fits in the mic jack of Sony HDR CX 430V ? or can you suggest some good external microphone for Sony HDR CX 430V?..... your reviews are awesome. After seeing your reviews i bought one split bullet cam and two KGB spy pen which are so helpful for recording seminars or guest lectures.
thanks for share.
muy bien hecho bro
Great content! Keep it up mate!
Hey everyone please click on Dave and have a look at his fishing stuff, he's a really good bloke. And yes 'cracked me up' is a phrase used in the UK.
Liking your g6?
i purchased this one with Zoom H1... Do you have any advice for settings ?. i am going to use it for Nikon D5100
Yup thats true.
The second mic is 100% better
are you gonna do another spy gadget review any time soon ?
The "afro wig" is also to protect the condenser mic against moisture.
Click beside where it says all comments (in the white space) And then Type 1337, it turns everything into slang
Please review a cheap 20 dollars waterproof mp3.
Hmm maybe it's the Neewer cheapo mic. I'll wait and see.
Old you had never heard of Audio Technica. WOW.
i found that odd as well seeing as he seems to be an audiophile (not to mention runs a youtube channel dedicated to home A/V) you woulda thought he be familiar with audio technica!! maybe they arent very big in the UK
If it has a mic input
This is the microphone I use in my helmet...wrapping all that extra cord inside the padding....thank goodness for my GF :-)
I'm monitoring your internet traffic and then quickly making videos based on your searches in the hope of getting a few £s from the affiliated links....trust you don't mind. ;-)
Did you hear Contour closed?
Very professional looking arm waving, sure you're not really trying to become a TV news reporter? ;-)
Super video. You can make a nice interesting review over everything, even over the most boring stuffs, like a Mic ...lol
@techmoan can you test 4 us some kind of nice looking 1080p spy sunglasses
Thats funny....i meant the helmet padding. Which Im sure you knew that lol
Sounded pretty good :)
It doesn't work for my computer... what similar mic will work for my computer.
It does, but I have to literally put it inside my mouth, otherwise it doesn't read.

The cable is too fragile...and you can repair anything on this mic...i do not recommend
