20th Century Girl (Korean: 20세기 소녀; RR: 20segi Sonyeo) is a South Korean romance drama film written and directed by Bang Woo-ri in her feature film debut, starring Kim Yoo-jung, Byeon Woo-seok, Park Jung-woo and Roh Yoon-seo. The film depicts the friendship and freshness of first love against the backdrop of 1999.[1] It was released on October 21, 2022 on Netflix.[2]

Idk what's with me, but I just cant help but rewatch this. Rewatched 20th century girl for the 3rd time today and I still cant help but cry everytime. It's beautifully painful and its something I'll never ever forget.

I love the storyline and the movie but it’s the most devastating ending, and I didn’t expect that at all. It was heartbroken how it ended so sadly as their love story was cute
so another heartbreaking kdrama for me. I cant move on with 2521,yet this drama left a nail in my heart again.

I watched 2521 and it completely shattered me💔💔💔 I js watched 20th Century Girl an hour ago and It hurt me a lot 😭😭
Appreciate the insight and that probably gave me the answer why Joseph took like 15 years to come to terms with the death of his brother , being a very young kid that time when his brother may have indeed died going back to Korea or before his planned trip to Korea…Bo Ra may have already healed and accepted PWH’s disappearance (like overcoming her first major break up)…and I remembered her last phone call /voice message left for him where she said that it would be better if the reason for his not answering /disappearance was because he were dead ( or in that context)…and when she finally knew the truth that PWH loved her and wanted to go back to her to keep his promise, that gave the answers and closure BR needed…their love might have been short lived, but both of them were able to share and expressed their real feelings for each other at the train station…those few minutes of open confession is worth more or equal to many years of being together…plus they shared so many happy moments together, though not as intimate as a couple but in their hearts, they felt love for each other…first loves are often unforgettable…though I did got disappointed in the non explanation of PWH’s cause of death, I guess the main focus should be on the lesson of the story - to be true to yourself and to the one you love for tomorrow is never promised…live your day as if it were your last…for if and when you suddenly lose the one you love unexpectedly, there’ll be no regrets and pain is a little less as your happy memories together outweighs the sadness…and yes, the last scene with PWH was standing smiling and the background does kinda show a heavenly picture, will only confirm that though he did not make it to his final destination (Bo Ra), the thought that he was going to her has his last moments in life filled with happiness….I guess his final wish to see Bo Ra as a 20th century girl/woman was his way of telling her WITH OR WITHOUT HIM, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FUTURE SHE HAS TO MAKE IT THROUGH as he will be watching over her 🙂🫶🫰…and Bo Ra surely did moved on with him in her thoughts and mind happily…she no longer cries when he thinks of him but often times smile knowing she was loved so very much by the one she loved the most as well…and that they both knew it by heart 🙂🙂🙂
I would add if you have a long distance relatioship have additional contact phone numbers of other relative of your loved one. Hum, now thinking, his brother was a kid and knew about her and probably his mother also knew and no one contacted her? His brother waited so long... wow.
@@zulthor8453 true… but it did showed that they kept constant communication for awhile and only stopped when PWY has either left for Korea or met the accident…I would assume the most probably his phone would be most certain lost/damage in the course of the accident…his parents are like divorced and his mother and brother are what he’s visiting in New Zealand (I think when their parents divorced, he was taken by his father and stayed in Korea and his Mom with his younger brother left for New Zealand)…and being teenagers that time (barely 20), their relationship may not be that open or known to their parents…Joseph (his younger brother) only found the tape with BR name and address when he said he was cleaning their stuff before moving…reason why he sent it to BR along with the invite for his exhibit (where he used his brother’s kept secret as his inspiration material for his project)…and because there was the full video of PWY’s message for BR before his supposed trip back to Korea…I would assume that tape was his some sort of diary while being away from BR and intends to give it to her when they meet again which sadly they didn’t get to do so…Joseph may have done said exhibit first, in honor of his brother and second, maybe his way of making up for BR for hating her (when he was a kid) because of PWY wants to return to stay in Korea for good because of her…

I watched this recently, and yes I did not expect the sad ending.
But then again, it’s reality isn’t it? We don’t always get in life, what we want.
Some directors, prefer sad endings, they say it leaves one with a lasting impression. Life often isn’t all tied up in a pretty bow with a Happy ever after.
Do a Season 2 with Woo Ho having amnesia from an accident and forgot Bo Ra till he regains his memory. But would prefer them to be in an entirely new movie or drama with a different story.
when they did not show baek hyun jin's face in the beginning and the moment i saw baek hyun jin's taller bestfriend showing some interest in Na bo ra, i already knew that he's the faceless guy in the beginning just wearing baek hyun jin's uniform. I was sure that will be the sad part and twist of this movie where the 2 girls like 1 guy but I did not expect the other twist in the ending..and yeah the ending was very sad...
I can relate with the agony of losing Bora’s first love coz my first love also died😢

Please add to your story, Bo-Ra's confusion about the mistaken identity of Poong Woon-ho. Also, later Poong Woon-ho was supposed to join Bo-Ra at the same university. He did not show up.
I accept that things not always have a happy ending, so I am good with the end. Also know that it does not make any difference to the end but why not provide the cause of death. The curiosity kills me. I thought that this was a drama an that when she sat to watch the video she was going to be transported again to the past and some how she would change things in the present in the next 15 epis0des. Yeah I have seen to much kdramas. Sad when I realized that it is a movie...

This was more like recap then a explanation of the ending. Deceiving it’s not cool to get views. Smh. 😡
I really liked this movie until the end just left me shaking my head. The ending was illogical and the plot holes destroyed what could have been a truly bittersweet and wonderful movie.

The lead's relationship had developed to the point of having a better understanding of each other AND Bo Ra would have had more information as to where PGH was living in New Zealand. And he would have been registered at he university because he knew he was coming back. Also, PGH's friend would probably have had information as well. Weren't PGH and his friend good friends to begin with?? For Bo Ra to just assume that PGH cut her out his life with so little warning was ridiculous.
And was there not a moment when either she or one her friends would have said something like - "OMG! do you think something may have happened to him?" "You should find out to be sure!" Why wouldn't she check out the house that had the plum tree? They didn't steal the plums from someone else's house, right? The ending would have made more sense for her to find out about his death weeks / or months later - NOT 25 years!!! WTF?
I LOVE K-dramas. I have become addicted in the last few years (even starting to learn Korean) but I still can't stand how some endings are simply put in for emotional effect with no thought behind it. This one calls to mind - Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol. The ending is utterly ridiculous!

Assuming he died in an accident. 1. The last video was done 1 January 2001 when he was telling his brother he's leaving for Korea. 2. Joseph said to Bo Ra he was upset with her because he felt like she was the reason he was returning to Korea but it wasn't until he watched the videos he understood how much his brother loved her. I'm thinking he must've met in an accident on his way to Korea. I hope that helps
This is the first movie/series that ever made me cry and i couldnt stop crying at all.
I hated the ending, it makes me want to punch whoever wrote it in the face - I mean obviously I wouldn’t but my heart hurts so much. I wish they wouldn’t have wrote it that way with no hope at the end
Very sad but the important thing is they experience love one another before he left this earth 🌎. Praying 🙏 for those you experience the same.
So many questions left hanging..i am hoping for its heartful ending but at the end Bo-ra learned of his love to her though several years passed already..memories to last forever😢

Oh thank god. I don't need to watch it anymore. The older I get the harder it is for me to watch these sad dramas. I had enough sadness in RL. I don't want to watch 16 hours of a show, seeing the characters grow and be happy, only to end in pain. This isn't good. You want people to laugh and smile. Take away their sadness. Forget the pain.

I like the movie. I have a comment about the reason why PWH died. People think it was an accident on the way to Korea to see Bora. I don’t think so because he would have the video tape on him and not hidden.
The idea is that he would show her the tape because he asked his brother to say “Miss Bora have a happy new year”.
His accident must have been something else and not going to Korea yet.

I just watch this show and I bolled my eyes out I'm even crying right now they had such a beautiful friend ship but then he left the more on stopped answering it made me cry so hard when he Got on the train the the sister liked him so she had to hide her feelings I feel so bad and the time she told him she doesn't love her I feelt so bad but he leave so she finally told him the I cried because he was about to leave but he promises he'll be back but can't because he's dead or just never answered at this point I'm still Bolling my eyes out and yeah

Definitely has shades of 25/21. I would have liked to know how he died though at least.

Seeing his afraid of heights probably plane crash? 🤧
It could be anything, his fear of heights was more significant to him wanting to confess to Bora knowing he was leaving soon, sort of now or never type situation. The need to pour his heart out at that moment to Bora is greater than his fear of heights.
How he died, I'd argue is not necessary to include in as a scene in the movie, cause it is implied that the brother revealed to Bora how he died, just that it was not made known to the viewers. if I had to guess he probably got involved in a tragic accident on the way to the airport to fly to korea which proved to be fatal. Hence the brother harbored much resentment towards Bora for a few years when he was growing up.
More importantly, his absence still hurts Bora so much that even after 20 years, she is still seemingly single, she could not move and deep inside still hoping he would someday return. And now that she met the brother and found out what happened, we can only hope she will have closure on her missing first love.
