Its sad to know the meaning behind the title of the movie "20th century girl"
Bora and Woonho got together after the summer of 1999, before he left for New Zealand and he had told her to wait a little for him to come back. For the year 2000 they were in a long-distance relationship and always communicated via email or telephone calls and they both wanted to attend school together in Korea for college.
He stopped replying to her late 2000 (I assume maybe September/ October time). At the end we got to see that he made a video for her on the 1st of January 2001 (Note that the new century began in 2001- the 21st century). He told her in the video that he would see her again. We even got to know that he was preparing to go back to Korea for college, but he met with an accident and died (we never got to really know how he died).
The last time he saw her was in 1999 during the 20th century, Thus the name of the movie being 20th century girl.
Yaaa... In one of the video he even says he want to see her.. The 21st century girl.. But as he couldn't that might be the reason it's 20th century girl..
I saw this scene in a video in RUclips... But one doubt if he died in late 2000 the how could he make video of 21st century time.. Like what u said of jan 1 2001...

This has to be one of my favorite Korean romance movie. I cried so much at the end T_T their relationship bring so much of my youth memories I think most of us can relate xD both the actor and actress did very well for their role

This reminds me of a 2016 chinese drama Remembering Li Chuan, there's a slight similarity. The guy also went back to Switzerland and died there. In real life the male actor Godfrey Gao also died in 2019.
