  • Assets are things that put money in your pocket. Liabilities take money out of your pocket. Sounds simple enough, right? In this video, I’m going to explain to you exactly what assets are, as well as the difference between assets and liabilities, and how you can acquire assets.
I’m also going to debunk a couple of common misconceptions about assets (a home is not an asset, nor is a car) and provide a bunch of examples of assets you can purchase. Enjoy!

You know whats funny?. I see everyday new Mercedes/bmws/audis that are in the range of 60-125k. I dont believe everyone that drives these cars are millionaires also.
As a person with good finances i honestly would rent that expensive car for just a month and enjoy the car then just go on.
I would honestly would buy a car in the range of 5-15k. These cars are much cheaper and if its in good condition it can save up a lot of money. What is 5-15k if you are net worth millionaire, right?

The investment you choose isn't right or wrong, just depends on the kind of business person you are or simply the kind of person you are. However, the end game is investing money long term creates wealth every time. Just pick what you like and understand, invest and it will pay off. These are very valuable rules for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. Just something I consider important on Dividend Stocks and REITS that wasn't mentioned. With Dividend stocks, after 60 days of owning that stock, they become part of a special tax bracket that determines how much tax you pay on dividend gains. Commonly if your tax rate is $40,000 or less you pay no tax on dividends. As for REITS, they just fall as income and are taxed at your regular tax rate no matter how long you owned the stocks.

An asset is anything that represents value to a person or a business. A liability is an obligation to pay. A car, a house, a jacket, a computer, an iphone are all assets. If you take out loans to pay for those things, than that is a liability, because a loan or a mortgage is an obligation to pay. But the thing itself, that you finance or get a loan for, that thing is an asset.

A car is not an asset and is a liability. Here is why: Every month I PAY money on it to own it if I took out a loan. I also PAY interest on that loan. Every week I PAY to fill up the gas tank. This on top of insurance and maintenance, the vehicle generally depreciates as soon as it comes off the lot. I will never generate cash flow from a car (unless I am a flipper) and thus it is a liability. Disagree with the housing, property is an asset. Think of it this way; you have to live somewhere, so you either own a property or you rent.
If you rent, then you will be charged enough for the person who owns a property to make a return on their investment, by definition that will be more than the mortgage of the property. When you move, you get nothing back.
On the other hand, owning a property could cost just as much every month as renting one, however, when you leave, you will get a return on that investment or recover some of those costs. Choosing a property well, could even see the value increase far higher than the cost of the interest or what you would’ve earned from other investment.
So I disagree fully that buying a house is a liability. It Camby if you select the wrong property.
I’ll give you an example. We purchased our home in 2015 for £97,000. It was our first home, but required a lot of work. We had it valued in March this year. The estimated value of the property is £250,000-£280,000 in its current state, and up to £400,000 with some remodelling estimated to cost about £50,000.
We have spent around £20,000 on renovation during the eight years living here. The work we have done as added about £150,000-£180,000 to our property. Well, not liquid asset at the moment we are using that equity to purchase a business.
We got lucky because we bought a home that required work to it. If you buy a top of the range home, you will not see such a return on investment.
