Havent played this season.. getting a bit tired of them just wiping things and calling it a new season. Really hoping that one day they will provide some new material. But glad you are having a good time playing. Its a great game, when it works :)
I’m so glad to find a proper tutorial about the game. I bought it when it first came out cause I’m obsessed with pirates and it’s one of the few pirate games that allows single player. Every time I would try to play it I got bored because I just had no idea what I needed to do to progress through to get my own ship and crew.
So glad it helped! I do love this game, I'll likely be back making more videos once they update to the next season. I also have a small 4 grid map for my discord community if you'd like a place to play without the official lag fest it can sometimes be. Link is in the description, and its free to play on my servers.
Just got the game yesterday and was kinda struggling to get a decent start. I tried so many tutorials but they're all so monotone and skip through a lot of stuff but your video actually helped me understand a bit better. Even simple stuff like the vitamins, I hadn't seen in another tutorial video! Keep up the good work mate, great video!
Glad it helped you out! If you are playing this season on official.. its pretty crowded and most of the claimable spots are taken, since they are still only doing a 6x6 PvE or 7x7 Pvp grids. I have a spot carved out on C2 on the PvE map, bottom right island if you need a place to build. Just come on by, North end of the island boats all have names that start with Knot :) Will be happy to help you get set up for a good start!
Glad to see a well done tutorial video!! I have always enjoyed this game, but only played on heavily modded RP servers. My fondest memory is a guy that bred battle chickens for doing low level treasure maps. He lost many chickens per map but it was a sight to see. Thanks for restoring my interest in Atlas!!
Glad you enjoyed the video and happy that it brought back some old memories of good times. To me, thats what the essence of gaming is... moments that we can remember fondly years after they happen. The game still needs work, sometimes I think the devs are going backwards rather than forward, but I keep coming back to it... just love the times when it all comes together and I just feel like Im out to sea... all alone... proving my mettle against all odds... it is epic!

Old Gamer dude too. I'm 62. Haven't played Atlas in years and thinking of joining up again. I stopped playing when they made it possible for people to claim your land while you slept in PVE. And then I had to explain to my nephew that all our stuff was gone, claimed by people while we slept. That was on the first day that was possible, and we never went back. I've heard that things have changed again. I also didn't like that they added all the farmhouse or warehouse things to collect supplies, and tried to change the course of the game from taming to pushing us out to sea. They restricted our ability to create our own ships when "they" should have adapted to it. Then charging us $5,000 gold to build a ship,.... on a shipyard that I built with my own 2 hands, on an Island that I basically owned. Not as cool as Ark, but I enjoyed it back in the day.
Yep, I played since launch, have left and come back several times, if the devs would ever get serious and finish the game, at least everyone could either like it or not. I've even heard rumors that they are looking at porting it to UE5, which to me is just likely another delay. I just started up a hard of my own this past week for the OGs, no mods, some buffs to XP and harvesting, but nothing over the top. It's really just a test to help out new players and see what the interest would be. If it takes off, I'll make it a few more grids. It's PvE and you're welcome to come out and play. Details are in my discord channel in #atlas. Link to the discord is in the vid description 😁
Very well put together guide! Saw it on RUclips while reinstalling the game to try the new season. I am a founder as well so nothing new here, but fantastic for new players! I would suggest just grabbing a few flotsam and running that first ship back for some 5g crew members. May just be because I don't like running back and forth on the sails ^_^. I love that you got to that with a grapple in hand which makes it so much easier.
LOL.. cant tell ALL my secrets :) I typically start a run like you said, just jump in and grab flotsam to get enough gold for a crew. After all.. as long as I have a bed on the boat, if I end up at the pointy end of a shark, Ive really got nothin to lose :)
hello , really enjoying your videos on Atlas. I wanted to point out that it was actually very common to have foundries , blacksmithing furnaces , and oil fires on ships during the period. they would use hot tar to seal holes and rebuild the ship while on the water. granted they were not just thrown onto the deck. they usually were in places that were made to support such a fire. so like reinforced with metal etc.
Glad you are enjoying them, and thanks for the info.. does make sense that they would have to have some sort of heat source during long voyages... especially to unknown lands. Just comical to me the conflagration that goes up when you light a campfire on board and atlas ship... :)
I have played Atlas a few times. Normally go for a few months with some friends. Always cool to see the new features. I miss being able to have like 5 farmhouses on an island and having everything auto harvesting. I didn't know about the grapples that's cool.
Yeah that makes a big difference! With the smaller maps, it's hard to find a spot to even put up ONE harvester these days. I got lucky on my base island in B4 to snag a couple of spots, one for wood and one for metal. Helps out a LOT! Especially being solo!
Glad you enjoyed it! The game has changed a LOT since launch, still glitchy at times but I always enjoy it. If you're on PC, hop on over to the OG discord, I recently launched a small 4 grid PvE server for people to learn the ropes or get reintroduced as well as play with a good group of folks ranging from brand newbie to seasoned pro. Details on the server are pinned in the Atlas channel!
Glad you enjoyed it! More Atlas content to come. Im doing a live series on Single Player to see what they have adjusted in this season. But Im also in the process of moving and thats getting to be a lot of work.. so trying to stay to a schedule of at least one vid a week between Atlas, Conan, and Smalland. Happy sailing! And if you are looking for a good group of folks to play PvE Conan with, check out the OG discord for info on our Conan and Ark servers. Details are pinned in the appropriate channels. :)
Hope everything works out for you! Keep me posted on how well the series S handles it. My wife just got a series x, but until the game goes on sale on Xbox, I'll just be on PC LOL
Yeah...about that.. it's an oldie but a goodie, but I've had it only work part of the time these days. Thankfully there are also a lot fewer cyclones in rain storms than I remember in previous seasons.
I learned the hard way today that leaving a solo company before joining another / merging is a very, VERY bad idea. Apparently in Atlas, when you make or join a company, everything you build is owned exclusively by that company and not you -- meaning that if you leave, you lose ownership of everything. Losing everything you have in one click feels bad. =P
Yeah... the ownership thing has been an issue for as long as I can remember. But I had the same issue on Conan when I joined a group on my server to help out with some dungeons.. all my "laboratories" for my streams suddenly was owned by the clan. It worked out, since its a close group that plays, but it definitely stings.
LOL.. probably getting drowned by whales myself :) Thanks for the compliment and I'll be around with more tips and tricks for a while.. working my way up in my SP stream to go whale hunting.. but that'll be a while I think. :)
Water physics are better this season, and the lag is a bit better overall, but highly populated grids do still cause rubber banding, at least on PvE official. The single player mode seems to be more stable for me, but I've had others tell me it crashes on them. Only issue I've had so far on SP is that if I try to use a spyglass, I get a fatal error crash.
The absolute best way is by doing treasure maps. Even the common ones will give you a quick boost. Discovering new islands also gives you a temporary xp buff, so if you combine the two, doing maps while the new discovery buff is active, you can really rack up the levels
Great tip for ya, you seemed disappointed you weren't able to let console players know the controls because you don't have an Xbox. You can actually get a wired Xbox controller and just plug it into your PC and it will work for most games, especially games that are already on Xbox. So you can still give that info if you wanted to without having to buy an entire console.
So, I really really want to Like this game and buy it for my Xbox X, but it has hundreds of 1 star reviews warning about Bugs. Can anyone tell me if the game is actually /super/ buggy, is it endurable, or is it enjoyable to play?
The PC version is playable and a lot of fun, when things work. But my understanding is that console is still much more buggy. If I were getting it for Xbox, I would wait and catch it on sale or on game pass. From someone who has been playing this game since launch, it's still got issues that you have to be ok with in order to enjoy it. Much like Ark (a lot of the same code) it's a love/hate relationship.
I totally agree. Ive been playing official again since the first of Dec and honestly, they have done a LOT to make it more fun to play. Im not a PvP player, so cant really comment on how that is going, but PVE on official has been very satisfying. I doubt we'll see much on the graphics side though... Id be terrified if they made the decision to switch to Unreal 5, with the bugs that are still present, they'd likely break the game beyond repair.. maybe Atlas 2? :)
@@OldGamerzNeverDie why do u say pve official is fun?nothing about that mess is fun plus u r literally locked outta over 50percent content due to devs not wanting pve players
Hop on in, although Season 12 is well under way so while you can likely find land in the lawless islands, you may struggle to put down harvesters or warehouses (not sure if you were playing when they added them). I'm doing a stream series on Single Player, which seems to be more stable than in the last few seasons, although mods are hot and miss.
@@OldGamerzNeverDie I played day one all the way till they added the first new ship and then the ships you could buy like the Kraken one and such. Has anything changed sense then? Btw great video haha it was very nostalgic to watch.
i used to like atlas. but i stopped playing it.. when the graphics for it were rubbish on the series s.. everything looked like play dough not sure if they have fixed the graphical visual issues since.
Unfortunately I dont think they have done much for console.. and even have left pc languishing with the last 3 seasons just being wipes and resets with no additional content or maps. I hate seeing it happen.. was a game with so much potential.. but seems Snail/Grapeshot is not good at final delivery on most games.. even Ark has struggled getting content out.. and hasnt hit a release date yet... soooo... Im afraid Atlas may go the way of so many Snail games.. like Dark & Light, Fear the Night, Outlaws of the Old West, and Last Oasis... all share the same curse.
@@OldGamerzNeverDie yeah it just doesnt make sense. they had this game as you say with so much potential and so much that they could have done. if they did it right. when it first came out people loved it on both platforms. then for silly reasons things took a complete nose dive. i mean they said they care about the game yet everything you point out is all true. well and truly confuddles the mind.
So if I wanted to play singleplayer heavily modded like I do in ark with Omega and conan exiles with AoC and EEWA how would I go about it? Or is it basically vanilla and that's it?
You can play Atlas single player with mods I have the basic settings I used last year in my vid ruclips.net/video/0VoFL812RD0/видео.html just do your start up on Oceans. Only issue is that the devs keep adjusting the game, and single player is a bit of a mess right now. A lot of mod devs have given up on fixing their mod everytime Grapeshot makes a change. But you add the mods in steam just like you would for Ark or Conan, thru the workshop, just realize that the mod may not work. Thats why I like Indecent Queens, because they run their own servers and do a lot of mod design and back end work themselves to keep the game alive with the mods running.
Free ports do have metal and u can fast travel between island in the safe zone without dropping your stuff so u can go farm on all island before u build ure first ship now never ever build a sloop atm the game offers u the cog if u go strait to ship skill and make a custom ore small shipyard cost no money and the cog comes with a medium sail it will take al a bout 10 to 20 min to do this
Interesting, I'll have to go back to the first Freeport and check it out. When I made the video, there was no metal available on the starter Freeports, so there was no benefit to fast travelling between them, except to get maps, which doesn't really help you much at the start of the game. You make a good point on the availability of the Cog, but it can't get into as shallow water as the sloop can, so I prefer the sloop.
So, Im on the Freeports on A1 on Whales Solitude, which is the official PvE and there is no metal here. If you are finding metal on a freeport, it must not be in the starter area, or not on PvE, or on a modded server. Just wanted to get back to you on that. As for the Cog, I've never been a fan of the modular ships from the day the devs put them in the game. Just my opinion. Also since Freeports on Official are no build zones, you wouldn't be able to put a modular shipyard to build the Cog at a Freeport anyway.
Its in my live stream here ruclips.net/video/u5fJGZwBZP0/видео.html starting around 39:31. But I am going to do a new build vid on a schooner and sloop on official as they have changed some of the collisions. Give this a look and see if it still works. If not, I should have the new builds up in a day or so. May even do them both live tomorrow for a NYE stream.
Depends on if you are on pc or Xbox. Pc is decently stable (you can see the water physics can be broken depending on server lag). A lot of the new mechanics like tame houses and bait stations make even solo play much more enjoyable. Its still a glitchy game, but there have been improvements. Come on out and give it a go! If you are on pc, Im on PvE map in B4, drop by and say hi!
@@caricknight I know that they just announced opening some Xbox only servers to concentrate on finding and fixing console bugs without the noise of PC. So, step in the right direction. You might check that out and see.
great video!! just too bad the community in pve is more toxic than pvp, putting pillars everywhere you try to build. it's the fourth season that happens 😢
LOL... its been going on in both PVP and PVE since the game launched. The first Island I ever settled on back in 2018, I had some jerk put pillars all around my house so that I couldnt expand or even put shutters on my windows. I will say though that the game has made some good turns over the last few years. Just getting back in and trying things like tame houses and bait traps... makes taming and breeding a lot easier than the days where your baby animals would die before even getting to adolescence because the temp dropped over night in your base. Ah the good ole days... :)
Yeah, I'm sure the devs put that in there to force new players to go with the "free" shipyard and make a cog instead of getting the gold to build a schooner. Put a diving platform on your ramshackle sloop (you'll have to move the wheel, so be sure you are at the skill level to make a new one) or dive free without a suit and snag some shipwrecks. You'll have the gold you need pretty quickly.
Are you playing Single Player, on Official Servers, or on an unofficial server? Typically the game makes your first spawn in one of the freeport grids, but depending on how the server is set up, that could be different. Also, Atlas just did, or is getting ready to do a fresh wipe and restart, so POI's may have changed.
Yeah, it's fun but I did miss the progression. I'm also playing on Official Whales Solitude, base in B4 if you want to drop by. There is another link there that goes to a website that has hundreds of dedicated servers of all sorts, check that out too.
Honestly, with all the issues that Xbox players have had with this... I'd not recommend playing it on console at all. Its a great game, dont get me wrong, I love playing it. But even on PC there are glitches and bugs that the community has kinda either just learned to live with or gone to modded unofficial servers (another reason to play it on PC, since there's no mod support for console). I have hopes that they will finally finish this at some point and make it truly multi platform, but considering that Ive heard they are looking into a port for UE5, I doubt it will be any time soon.
5:16 mine won’t show the grid so I can’t even go find the bottles I been grabbing for loot Edit: This game is a shit show on console and I’m requesting a refund. Crashing on both of my Xboxes constantly on a single player world. My main Xbox is a series x as well. Smh
Is the grid like a smoky grey? Is so that's the "fig of war" and it goes away as you explore that grid. If your map view is blank, your map file is corrupted. Are you playing official, single player or an unofficial server?
@@gho5tspartan26yt Are you on PC or console? If you are getting the game thru Steam on pc, try verifying your files. That might work, but if not you may need to reinstall the map files. My buddy Skarvig has a great vid on how to fix it at ruclips.net/video/tFiP0OlcaJg/видео.htmlsi=eWqTA4Xv31Pq2Mk2
I hear ya... is mostly why I stopped doing PvP games... too many people out there exploiting games. But..to each their own. If you are on pc and interested in playing Conan, Ark, or Icarus with some chill people, drop by the discord and come play with the OGs on my private servers.
Little bit of both, depending on where you play. There are pvp servers currently one PvE on official, but if you follow the link in the description to the unofficial servers list, you can find pvp, PvE, pvevp, and roleplay servers. I'd give that a look if your not looking for just another survival playthru. 😊
For anyone who is thinking of buying atlas at full price, don’t waste your money. From someone who has more than 4,000 hours in game, the dev team is utterly incompetent and has had full lineup changes on multiple occasions. The devs are absolute dog shit at returning tickets and they don’t understand the meaning of “product testing”. If you’re buying this game in 2023 I recommend you go check out an unofficial ark server or just go to rust, this game is a shit graphic waste of time and effort
I get what youre saying.. I have a ton of hours in the game and agree whole heartedly with your points about the devs, not paying full price, and utilizing dedicated servers (as I explained in my final tip). The game does have its moments, and I keep coming back to it. But it is not for everyone, especially if you have a low tolerance for failure of devs to address key issues. Some people like Rust.. its just not my game, but it is an alternative (without the ship building) as is Day Z, Seven Days to Die, and countless others. I keep hoping and coming back. We'll see if they ever pull it off, but until then, I'll keep trying to give helpful info to those who are out there on the seas with me.
The game definitely has its issues.. but when its good.. its phenominal. Ive made some great memories over the years, and Ive been playing since launch... so Ive seen the good, the bad and the ugly side of it as well. Last patch deleted half of my stuff.. and as a solo player.. thats a LOT of work to rebuild. But I still keep coming back to it as it offers something different... at least to me, than Ive found in other games. Plus I keep hoping that one day Grape Shot will stop sabotaging itself and actually hit a home run. Its happened before.. No Man's Sky did it... so.. here's hoping!

Yeah that makes a big difference! With the smaller maps, it's hard to find a spot to even put up ONE harvester these days. I got lucky on my base island in B4 to snag a couple of spots, one for wood and one for metal. Helps out a LOT! Especially being solo!
Awesome video. I forgot I had this game and now its time to revisit. Thanks for sharing.
Really good video man. Thank you. I'm an old school gamer myself and recently started playing this. I've been playing Conan Exiles since pre release
Awesome vid !!! Thanks for the help bruh :)
Glad it helped you out! There are lots of other tips and tricks in my Single Player streams, so check those out too! Happy sailing!
Just about to play this on xbox series s,, loving the bear,, thanks for tips 👍
Hope everything works out for you! Keep me posted on how well the series S handles it. My wife just got a series x, but until the game goes on sale on Xbox, I'll just be on PC LOL
Great video thx 🖖🏽
Thank you! Hope it helps people out :)
not seen this before, looks cool! :)
It's a fun game! Has it's issues though. Plus it goes on sale pretty frequently, so, it's a good game to pick up when it's on special 😁
Very cool gameplay here OGND 🎮 😎
I appreciate the compliment as usual SRG!! Thanks for dropping in and for commenting
The other thing about cyclones is not to look at them, just turn your back to them and they go away
Great video! Where were you when I was getting drowned by whales the first time? lol
LOL.. probably getting drowned by whales myself :) Thanks for the compliment and I'll be around with more tips and tricks for a while.. working my way up in my SP stream to go whale hunting.. but that'll be a while I think. :)
Is it still laggy, did you change your settings?
Or is the game more stable now?
Water physics are better this season, and the lag is a bit better overall, but highly populated grids do still cause rubber banding, at least on PvE official. The single player mode seems to be more stable for me, but I've had others tell me it crashes on them. Only issue I've had so far on SP is that if I try to use a spyglass, I get a fatal error crash.
What is a great way to get experience to start on the PVE servers.
That is a GREAT tip.. thank you! I hadnt thought about doing that.. would definitely be cheaper than an xbox :) Will give it a shot! Great idea!
I'd like to see this game remade with better graphics..... It had a really bad start but eventually got it's polish and it's shining :) .
@@OldGamerzNeverDie @pamposmichael5051 in the near future unreal 5 will be the game engine and that will be a game changer.
@@Hawtnyss-SlC Oh I agree... I just get the spasms everytime I hear a game might get "remade" with Unreal 5, like thats an easy thing to do. LOL
@@OldGamerzNeverDie why do u say pve official is fun?nothing about that mess is fun plus u r literally locked outta over 50percent content due to devs not wanting pve players
This game looks exactly the same as it was day one -_- i was hoping to come back because i loved it so much.
@@OldGamerzNeverDie thanks for the reply. I'll check them out and see if they run a mod collection or something similar. Appreciate your response.
Thanks boss
You are most welcome! Glad it's helping you out! 😁

Thanks for the optimism! I appreciate the support!
where is the video for the sloop, I can't find it
Its in my live stream here ruclips.net/video/u5fJGZwBZP0/видео.html starting around 39:31. But I am going to do a new build vid on a schooner and sloop on official as they have changed some of the collisions. Give this a look and see if it still works. If not, I should have the new builds up in a day or so. May even do them both live tomorrow for a NYE stream.
@@OldGamerzNeverDie thanks
I haven't played it for about a year does it still have big crash loop
Depends on if you are on pc or Xbox. Pc is decently stable (you can see the water physics can be broken depending on server lag). A lot of the new mechanics like tame houses and bait stations make even solo play much more enjoyable. Its still a glitchy game, but there have been improvements. Come on out and give it a go! If you are on pc, Im on PvE map in B4, drop by and say hi!
@@OldGamerzNeverDie so that means console is still pretty bad, huh?
Kick ass
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
I need 500 gold faST! Did seaboxes, got 106 gold in 4 hours. Not good!
Dive shipwrecks, you should get at least 100 per dive
I wanted to put my homie onto Atlas I got high and said the wrong game now he likes sea of thieves
Both good games, just a LOT different! LOL
Yo why your character look like old man nebercracker from monster house
Just my jam :)
Should have mentioned the "H" key
I thought I did! LOL It definitely saves time! I know I called it out in my "resources" vid
You mentioned very late in the video
@@LyntheWicker ah, it's a big improvement from Ark, for sure
the only thing is what i hate is buying a shipyeard
Yeah, I'm sure the devs put that in there to force new players to go with the "free" shipyard and make a cog instead of getting the gold to build a schooner. Put a diving platform on your ramshackle sloop (you'll have to move the wheel, so be sure you are at the skill level to make a new one) or dive free without a suit and snag some shipwrecks. You'll have the gold you need pretty quickly.
Why can't I spawn in A1?
Are you playing Single Player, on Official Servers, or on an unofficial server? Typically the game makes your first spawn in one of the freeport grids, but depending on how the server is set up, that could be different. Also, Atlas just did, or is getting ready to do a fresh wipe and restart, so POI's may have changed.
I tried the server. I was a little disappointed that they gave you ALL skills for free. There was no sense of progression or leveling.
Yeah, it's fun but I did miss the progression. I'm also playing on Official Whales Solitude, base in B4 if you want to drop by. There is another link there that goes to a website that has hundreds of dedicated servers of all sorts, check that out too.
I need the game in ps4
Honestly, with all the issues that Xbox players have had with this... I'd not recommend playing it on console at all. Its a great game, dont get me wrong, I love playing it. But even on PC there are glitches and bugs that the community has kinda either just learned to live with or gone to modded unofficial servers (another reason to play it on PC, since there's no mod support for console). I have hopes that they will finally finish this at some point and make it truly multi platform, but considering that Ive heard they are looking into a port for UE5, I doubt it will be any time soon.
This still up?
The game? yeah.. its still running.
5:16 mine won’t show the grid so I can’t even go find the bottles I been grabbing for loot
Edit:
This game is a shit show on console and I’m requesting a refund.
@@OldGamerzNeverDie single player. I even sailed to another island or 2
@@gho5tspartan26yt Are you on PC or console? If you are getting the game thru Steam on pc, try verifying your files. That might work, but if not you may need to reinstall the map files. My buddy Skarvig has a great vid on how to fix it at ruclips.net/video/tFiP0OlcaJg/видео.htmlsi=eWqTA4Xv31Pq2Mk2
just want to find a game where i cant be hacked likee with gta.
I hear ya... is mostly why I stopped doing PvP games... too many people out there exploiting games. But..to each their own. If you are on pc and interested in playing Conan, Ark, or Icarus with some chill people, drop by the discord and come play with the OGs on my private servers.
oh god.. so its not pirate game but survival .. again.. :(
Little bit of both, depending on where you play.
Taste out Radioactive best server on unofficals
Yep, another great group of folks!
I can’t believe people still play this half broken game. One of the only developers that after years of updates the game is worse.
