Funny thing when i was watching the movie, i initially thought Blake was the main character. When he died i was so shook. Only then i realized that Schofield was actually the main character.
Update: though this movie didnt win best picture at oscar, it is still the best movie ive watched in 2019. Y'all agreed????
I thought the same. I loved the film brilliant great view of the trenches. Yesterday I saw Jo Jo Rabbit Rabbit also brilliant also about war. 2 brilliant films. I have seen both I recommend everyone to see both. Thanks to all

Yep, sneaky move by Sam Mendes to undercut the assumed plot armour.
They were both main characters but his death sort of shocked me... I think his random death represents how no one is safe from war. It subverts our expectations!

There's a lot of fuzz about George, but Dean was also great!! His performance is heartbreaking.. he's a pure soul. Straight forward to save his brother, and the speak about the cherrytrees.. then "talk to me"... i've seen the movie twice but the second time i cried so much..
he was such a perfect choice for the role. so lively and boyish, and his death scene was heartbreaking.

Yeah, a LOT of them tell that they begin to experience déjà vu because you repeat and repeat everything, and many of them have like 20 interviews per day (o more) so yes, it's exhausting, but they love making films

I think it’s funny that while Dean is much more straightforward about his character’s backstory, George kind of sidestepped the question and have a joke answer. (If you’ve seen the movie, you know why)

@@claracq5950 it's because Dean's character was the one who was cracking jokes in the face of affliction, yet George's was an opposite type
clara cq it’s revealed at the end that George’s character has a wife and two daughters waiting for him back home but for whatever reason, he’s felt unwelcome to return to them until he sees the note and photos his wife sent to him.
@@MegaSheen15 in one of the interviews, maybe the table reading thing, George and Sam the director said that Scho didn't believe he would make out alive so he would rather to have his mind staying in one place-the war rather than missing his family back home-the essence of another world out there.

I love the early scene when they're walking through the people and you can see Dean's back straightened, face hardened and he's preparing himself to battle, such a contrast to the previous lax attitude when they were sleeping under the tree. A-mazing

Honestly I would have a problem meeting George, he reminds me a lot of my greatest love and disappointment of my life in one person. Especially his eyes and smile even movements... this film was like a reopening old wound again.

Why do people keep saying “ One Take”? It is done with “One Camera”. Which means each scene is filmed with one camera non-stop. Each scene is usually 5 to 10 minutes. This is very hard to do as you do not edit to fit to the set. You have to build the set to fit the timing of the dialog. AMAZING MOVIE!
Of course. It’s not literally one shot. Most of us understand that. People have been saying “one take” (or more accurately, “one shot”) because the movie creates the ILLUSION of being one continuous shot - well, two actually - achieved by seamlessly splicing together the individual shots at opportune, well disguised moments. The filmmakers aren’t really trying to “trick” us; I mean, you can spot some of the cuts if you’re looking. It was simply Sam Mendes’s creative vision to make the film look and feel like a single shot, similar to the way we perceive life through our eyes, and I think he executed that concept very well.
But I feel like you already knew all that and just wanted to mansplain the process to us haha

I was doing the same thing about sneaking in the cuts. I found many of them.
