David and Denny have this beautiful loft thy want to transform their beautiful new loft apartment into an inviting hosting space. They want to utilise the natural light and open space they have, however, they do have a few conditions. Most importantly, the room must include a dining table passed down by by grand parents. Sarah Richardson isn’t sold on the idea and has the delicate task of suggesting to not include it. Is Sarah overstepping boundaries or will her suggestion makes the room even more “hip”. I liked this transformation so much!!! I especially like (and am inspired about!) how easy it was to make a BIG difference both in the kitchen & on the fireplace (for the latter, I'm glad they kept the stone too). I am SO so thrilled to see each and every Design Inc. episode (huge shout out to ABODE!!! Thank you!)😍😍😍

Would love to see the Design Inc. where they renovated an old boathouse on a lake into a liveable space, it's a terrific episode and very timely too while summer is still here. 🍁🧡

Make the table the focal point.
Add some dark wood elements through out the loft and balance with some modern.

  • @marylut6077

Why not mask the pink wall next door with window film to preserve the minimalism loft feel?

    • @angelayoung5798

Because Sarah can't NOT paint brick and wood.

Jessica called it correctly, on the grandparents' dining set! Well done, Jessica.
I'm so astonished at the depth + breadth of Sarah's ability to envision a space, reimagined. I can do that about 60% of the time, to about an 80% complete concept. But her imagination, is on a completely Other Level Up!

Sooo some questions: If they are concerned about dust on glass pendants..what will happen with that feather lamp and the dog and dust? Now that I think about this the dusting in that place will be INSANE. ALL the surfaces show even the most minute dust, oh and they have a dog that sheds!!!! ACK!! What happened to the cladding the fireplace in black lacquer? Not that I think they should have but I wonder why show that plan then never circle back? The glass shelf/mantle seems very dangerous. Someone at their first party is going to jab their ribs into it and it will all crash down. The brick was a huge huge huge faux paux! They won't live there forever--the next people will think a LOFT should have the brick..ya can't back track painted brick!!! It's VERY curious the "horrid pink" does not show up at all in the initial photography!!! She covered it all up anyway. I see she totally 'de-lofted" the space!! No more brick, no more air duct! Hello day old condo!! Why does Sarah think natural brick and wood are bad?? The kitchen was sooo much warmer and more welcoming not painted!!! Stained dark like the tables MAYBE but not painted. It's sooo flat and blah! As far as the table well they could have stained it dark and worked with it I think. Either you make it work or you live w/o history or soul. That describes this new place to a T. I do enjoy the entertainment value of Sarah and the gang and their designs are beautiful--for a magazine but for living??? Well they are mostly very impractical.

The overall impression I get from the space is curated, a bit by-the-book, and somewhat bland. This despite eccentric items like the bar cart (perfection) and the fuzzy lamp (not so much). The loft vibe disappeared when the brick got painted and the window treatment took over the wall.

Absolutely disagree. This room is warm, and inviting, and a sophisticated cozy. A loft does not have to have the brick left in its original state to still be a loft; that is a very limiting opinion. It is a beautiful room.

The beginning and ending music sounds like there's an echo/repeat going on. Also what's up with "Dr. Greene, please come to Radiology" at 13:52? Was it dubbed in to play off his comment about a lamp looking like an X-ray display screen?
